4 Summary of Undergraduate Participation Term to Term Comparison: Academic Year Fall Semester Spring Semester J-Term Spring Break Summer Total for Year Highlights: Students earned an estimated 7,806 credit hours while studying abroad. 45.4% (360 students) of students participated in a Loyola Global Center program (Rome and Vietnam) compared to 47.2% (409 students) in % (232 students) studied abroad through a Global Partner (Jesuit university or third party provider) program compared to 32.3% (280 students) in % (151 students) took part in a Loyola sponsored J-Term, Spring Break, or Summer Global Faculty-Led program representing a 4.1% increase from % (18 students) studied abroad through a Global Exchange program compared to 3.6% (32 students) in Loyola students were awarded a total of $199,327 in study abroad scholarships during the academic year compared to $275,498 in % of study abroad participants (99 students) received funding specifically to study abroad. 11.7% (93 students) of the total number of students who studied abroad were Interdisciplinary Honors Program students, representing 11.6% of the total number of Interdisciplinary Honors Program students at LUC during fall 2016 (799 students). In addition, 15 Quinlan School of Business Honors Program students studied abroad representing 14.3% of the total number of students at LUC during fall 2016 (105 students). 196 students (24.7%) identified as an ethnic minority in representing a 3.3% increase from Top six majors represented: International Studies (74 students), Political Science (59 students), Psychology (59 students), Advertising & Public Relations (48 students), Biology (45 students) and Marketing (45 students). 83 students (10.5%) were first-generation college students, an increase of 4.3% from ; overall, the LUC undergraduate student body is comprised of 16.8% first generation college students. 130 students (16.4%) who studied abroad were Federal Pell Grant recipients representing an increase of 1.4% from P a g e

5 Class Standing and Gender Profile Class Standing: Of the students who participated in study abroad programs during , the percentage breakdown by class standing at the time of studying abroad resulted in: Class Standing Sophomore (26%) Junior (48%) Senior (24%) Graduate (2%)* 384 Gender Profile: Of the students who were abroad during , the percentage breakdown by gender resulted in: Female: 612 students (77.2%) Male: 181 students (22.8%) In the general LUC undergraduate student population was 66.2% female, 33.8% male. 6 Ethnic Background Students were asked to self report ethnic background in LOCUS, resulting in the following breakdown of study abroad students: White/Caucasian: 539 students (68.1%) Multi racial: 109 students (13.7%) Unknown or International Students: 58 (7.3%) Asian American: 40 students (5.0%) Hispanic American: 26 students (3.3%) African American/Black: 20 students (2.5%) Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander: 1 students (0.1%) 2.5% 5.0% 3.3% 13.7% African American/Black (2.5%) Asian American (5.0%) Hispanic American (3.3%) 0.1% 7.3% Multi-racial (13.7%) Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (0.1%) 68.1% Unknown or International Students (7.3%) White/Caucasian (68.1%) 24.7% of study abroad students identified themselves as an ethnic minority in LOCUS. The general LUC undergraduate population is comprised of 37.5% ethnic minorities. 6 P a g e

If a student was completing a double or triple major, each major was included in the total below in order to accurately reflect major distributions across different colleges/schools. Therefore, the total number of majors is greater than the total number of individual students studying abroad. 12 Scholarships and Grants Awarded for Study Abroad Total Awarded for : $199,327 John Felice Center Award (53%) 24% Vietnam Center Award (1%) 11% 53% Ricci Scholarship (11%) Program Provider Awards (11%) 11% Other National Scholarships (24%) 1% Total awards for decreased $76,171 from This is likely due to the overall decrease in participation rates. The Vietnam Center Awards: Need-based scholarships of up to $500 were offered to Loyola students participating in the program. John Felice Rome Center Awards: The Rome Center offers several awards specifically for Rome Center students, thanks to generous Rome Center alumni and benefactors. Ricci Scholarships: The Ricci Scholars Program awards selected students with grants to fund travel, research and exploration during a junior year of study divided between the John Felice Rome Center and The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies. Program Provider Awards: These awards are funded by Global Partner programs: The Beijing Center, University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC), School for International Training (SIT), the Institute for the International Education of Students (IES), Academic Programs International (API), and the Center for International Studies (CIS). Other National Scholarships: These awards include the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for students receiving the Federal Pell Grant with funding up to $5,000; ProjectGo for ROTC students on language-intensive programs with awards of approximately $10,000; and the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) with funding around $3, P a g e
