2 DUAL CREDIT STUDENT CHECKLIST Apply to Weatherford College: Go to Select two-year college, Weatherford College. Complete placement testing (if needed): Check with your counselor. Complete an Early Admission Application/Exceptional Student Status Form: The Exceptional Student Status form is required for juniors and seniors taking more than 2 courses and for all sophomores taking dual credit. Applicable signatures required. Complete a Dual Credit Tuition Exemption Form (for students on free/reduced lunch program or taking technical (WECM) course(s). Submit to Weatherford College EACH SEMESTER. Submit a current high school transcript Register for classes with Weatherford College on mywc: The high school counselor completes your high school schedule; you must register with Weatherford College. This is YOUR responsibility. Follow the steps below to register. o Go to o Enter your student USERNAME & PASSWORD. Your username is the first part of your WC student address (e.g.: jdoe.1234). Your password is your birthday (mmddyyyy). You received this information in an when you completed your ApplyTexas application. o Complete your password recovery challenge. o Click the acknowledgement button. The page will advance to the options below. Dashboard Registration Account Info Student Info Hover over Registration and select Add/Drop Courses. Select High School from the left, semester term code column and the course name from the right, department column. Click Display Schedule and Available Courses button and add class(es). Pay for class(es). A Dual Credit Tuition Exception form, if applicable, must be submitted prior to payment. o Online hover over Account Info and select Review/Pay Account to pay in full or set up a payment plan. o Pay at your local WC facility or call the WC Business Office ( ). If you have any questions, please contact your local WC Dual Credit office. Buy your books at the WC Bookstore online through mywc or at the main campus. Bookstore purchases may be available at the Education Centers.
3 Weatherford College participates in a program of early admission for qualified students who have not graduated from high school, based on the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) for Dual Credit Partnerships between secondary schools and Texas public colleges (Title 19, Part 1, Chapter 4, Subchapter D, Rule 4.85). The local school board must approve the program before a student will be eligible to enroll. Dual Credit students must * be classified as a junior or senior, unless student qualifies under the Exceptional Student Status Waiver (see form on back) * demonstrate college readiness through TSI or other approved assessments (e.g., TAKS, STAARS EOC, ACT, SAT) * meet all regular prerequisite requirements designated for the desired course(s) An early admission student * can only take two college credit courses per semester, unless student qualifies for additional semester credit hours under the Exceptional Student Status Waiver (see form on back) * will be admitted by conditional entrance upon acceptance to Weatherford College. Once the student completes high school requirements for graduation, an official high school transcript with the date of graduation must be sent to the Weatherford College Office of Student Affairs. An official WC transcript will not be issued until the official high school transcript is received. * placed on academic probation must be counseled by a designated WC advisor prior to enrolling in subsequent semesters. * enrolling as a dual credit student requesting 1) reduced tuition based on the Federally Funded Free/Reduced Meal Program or 2) tuition exemption for enrollment in a technical course, must complete the Dual Credit Tuition Exemption form before enrolling in the WC course. * signing this form gives Weatherford College permission to release his/her dual credit college course grade(s) to his/her high school upon request from the appropriate high school representative. I am applying for admission to Weatherford College as an early admission student, subject to verification of the above conditions. Only information defined as directory information may be released to the public (see on line WC Student Handbook). A student s education records are treated confidentially and will not be released to a third party without the written consent of the student. A student may revoke this permission at any time by appearing in person in the local Weatherford College Office and executing an affidavit cancelling this access. Initial on the line(s) below to indicate which records you wish to make available: All Academic/Transcript Records (records include: transcripts, admission and registration information, schedule information, assessment test scores, Satisfactory Academic Progress status, residency information, and any other documentation contained in the academic records). All Student Account Records (records include: amounts due for tuition/fees, sources of payment for tuition/fees, refund information, records hold information relating to parking tickets, library fines, financial aid repayments, and other accounts receivable information in student account records). Instructor/Classroom Records (records include: attendance, progress reports, test, and homework scores if available. Please note that FERPA pertains to the release of records. Instructors are not required to have conversations about academic progress with anyone other than the student). 4 The Texas Administrative Code (TAC) for Dual Credit Partnerships Between Secondary Schools and Texas Public Colleges Title 19, Part 1, Chapter 4, Subchapter D, Rule 4.85 states the following: * (b) (6) To be eligible for enrollment in a dual credit course offered by a public college, students must have at least junior year high school standing. Exceptions to this requirement for students with demonstrated outstanding academic performance and capability (as evidenced by achieving or exceeding the minimum TSI college readiness standards ) may be approved by the principal of the high school and the chief academic officer of the college... * (b) (7) High school students shall not be enrolled in more than two dual credit courses per semester. Exceptions to this requirement for students with demonstrated outstanding academic performance and capability (as evidenced by grade-point average, ACT or SAT scores, or other assessment indicators) may be approved by the principal of the high school and the chief academic officer of the college to a maximum of 15 semester credit hours. * (b) (7) (B) A student enrolling in more than two dual credit courses in a semester must pass all courses during that semester with a grade of C or better to continue to enroll in more than two dual credit courses in following semesters. This form, signed by the high school principal, and copies of all supporting documentation must be received by Weatherford College before student enrolls in course(s). Statements of Assurance I affirm that, currently a student in grade at high school, possesses exceptional academic ability, as described above. 6 TSI Placement Requirements Academic Exemptions: students are exempt from placement testing if the following scores are documented 11 th Grade TAKS STAARS EOC ACT SAT Reading Reading/English III, Level 2 ENGLISH 19+ VERBAL 500+ Writing 3 Reading/English III, Level 2 MATH 19+ MATH 500+ Math Algebra II, Level 2 COMPOSITE 23 COMPOSITE 1070 Non-Academic Exemptions: documents proving exemption must be submitted to Student Services Military Service Student serving on active duty of the armed forces for 3 or more years, or was honorably discharged/retired after 8/1/90 Transfer Student Students who have successfully completed TSI restricted coursework at a previous institution, or have been declared college ready by their transfer institution (please visit with advisor) Certificate seeking Students pursuing a level 1 certificate Non-Degree seeking Students who are not pursuing a degree and can be declared a casual student Previous Degree A student who has graduated with an associate or baccalaureate degree from an institution of higher education **All students who have an exemption are encouraged to speak with an academic advisor concerning appropriate placement. WC TSI Assessment Cross Walk - Mathematics Course MATH0301 Placement Score ABE 1-4 Students who successfully complete MATH0301 with C or higher will move on to MATH0402. This course is taught face-to-face or in a Non-Course Base (NCBO) format (permission only), neither is eligible for Financial Aid Funding. Students enrolled in NCBO are required to complete 48 hours of tutorial in Success Connection. Students who successfully complete MATH0402 with a C or better will be college ready and will be able to enroll in any freshman MATH0402 level math course. Students earning a D will be allowed to enroll in MATH1332. Successful completion of 1332 (C or higher) will make student TSI Complete in Math. College Ready WC offers four entry-level math courses. Please consult with an advisor to ensure you are selecting the appropriate course for your degree plan. *Students desiring a higher placement than entry college-level math must take the Compass Math test. Which College Math is Right for Me? MATH1332: MATH for Liberal Arts For students that need only one math credit and do not plan to pursue additional math courses. MATH1414: College Algebra This class is required for some majors, including the AAT (EC-6) major at WC; it is a pre-req for further study in math. MATH1324: MATH for Business I This class is recommended for Business majors. MATH1342: Elementary Statistics This class is required for some healthcare and social science majors. (MATH1414 is a recommended pre-req) WC TSI Assessment Cross Walk Reading Course Placement Score ABE DEVR Students who successfully complete DEVR0301 with a C or better will progress to DIRW0302 DIRW Students who complete DIRW0302 with a C or better will become College Ready in both Reading and Writing. NCBO0100 Placement Score Diagnostic Course designed for students who are near passing Reading or Writing. Students who pass this course with a Proficient P will be College Ready. NCBO-0100 can be paired with a 2 nd 8 week English or History course College Ready Students college ready in Reading may enroll in HIST and GOVT. WC TSI Assessment Cross Walk Writing Course Placement Score Essay ABE DEVW Students who successfully complete DEVR0301 with a C or better will progress to DIRW0302 DIRW Students who complete DIRW0302 with a C or better will become College Ready in both Reading and Writing. NCBO0100 Placement Score Essay Diagnostic Course for students who are near passing Reading or Writing. Students who complete with a P will Proficient be College Ready. NCBO-0100 can be paired with a 2 nd 8 week English or History course College Ready Students must be College Ready in Reading and Writing to enroll in ENGL Full Time students, who are not College Ready in two or more areas, must enroll in EDUC1300. Full-Time students are to enroll in all needed areas of remediation. Holistic advising should be employed to determine the best placement for each student.
