6 STEP STEP & CSTEP PROFILE Services students from 7 th to 12 grade Statewide 8,505 students, CSTEP 10 NYS medical schools have STEP programs as part of the Associated Medical Schools of New York, AMSNY, consortium Services students from college freshmen to seniors Statewide 6,165 students, % matriculated in STEM & health related fields

8 High School Program - STEP Einstein Enrichment Program EEP, AMSNY STEP consortium Year round program: 40 students, grades 10 th -12 th, live and attend high school in the Bronx Academic year component: after school, twice a week, 30 weeks professional speakers, hands-on activities, service learning, academic support & enrichment Summer component: four days, 5 weeks, academic instruction, shadowing approximately 72 hours per student 100% graduate rate 100% attend college

Funded by various sources; administered by Department of Family Medicine and Social Medicine since 2002 Local outreach entering college freshmen through raising juniors Eligibility economically disadvantaged or underrepresented in medicine 5 week exposure to health professions Components: shadowing physicians, interactive hands on workshops, visits to health related organizations, independent learning Culminates with project presentations and written report

12 AMSNY Post Baccalaureate Program Currently funded by NYS Dept of Health; Administered by SOM and Biomedical Sciences at University at Buffalo, SUNY One year post baccalaureate program Participating medical schools select 2-3 candidates from medical school applicant pool Condition no offer of admission from another medical school

13 AMSNY Post Baccalaureate Program Summer component; academic year full time enrollment in advance science courses at SUNY Buffalo Receive advisement, tutoring, mentoring Tuition free, stipend provided Currently, Einstein has 14 enrolled medical students who did the program and 2 are doing the program in Buffalo

15 Major Collaborators in Outreach Efforts Fordham University 2008 Yeshiva University and Fordham University signed collaborative agreement to strengthen the science and medical offerings at both institutions Fordham s Rose Hill campus is less than 20 minutes from Albert Einstein Agreement enhanced existing collaboration between Office of Diversity Enhancement and Fordham s STEP & CSTEP Developed partnership between Fordham and Einstein s Graduate Division of Biomedical Sciences
