Created originally for educator preparation, UCM has evolved into a multi-faceted, multi-college institution serving more than 12,000 students from 46 states and 60 countries. UCM offers 150 programs of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Eighty-one percent of UCM students are Missouri residents. Our world today changes faster than ever technology, economics, culture, politics and so must higher education change in order for students to meet the unpredictable opportunities and challenges of the future. The University of Central Missouri believes its responsibility is to enrich each student s perspective through a cumulative experience that starts with academic rigor and integrates applied learning and servant-leadership opportunities. Our model of continuous learning allows each student to find and fulfill his or her own sense of purpose. By engaging students with multiple sources of learning and creating a dynamic environment that encourages individuals to find their passions and reach beyond themselves, UCM prepares students by giving them knowledge and experiences that broaden and deepen their education so they may flourish in a world of accelerated change. TWO CAMPUS LOCATIONS Warrensburg UCM s main campus is located in Warrensburg. The city, with a population of nearly 20,000, is situated just 35 miles east of the Kansas City metropolitan area and 12 miles west of Whiteman Air Force Base. Warrensburg offers a rich historical culture including architecture, two golf courses and more than 70 restaurants. Lee s Summit UCM recently expanded their Kansas City Metro campus into the Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC). Located 35 miles from Warrensburg, the MIC is a progressive collaboration between the Lee s Summit R-7 School District and the University of Central Missouri, designed to promote careerreadiness in an innovative, award-winning education space. UCM is defined by our creed: Learning to a Greater Degree. Our creed conveys the depth of experiences students gain at the University of Central Missouri. Students time at UCM empowers them to excel in the fast-paced world of today and tomorrow. Learning to a Greater Degree defines who we are and what we do. Supported by the four reasons to believe, Learning to a Greater Degree gives us a way to tell UCM s story. Worldly Perspective: UCM prepares students to work in a world that continues to become more globalized by offering study abroad opportunities. Culture of Service: UCM students dedicate hours of volunteer assistance to many nonprofit agencies. Future-focused Academics: UCM provides new technologies to keep students abreast of the latest changes in their field. 2

3 ABOUT THE PRESIDENT Dr. Charles M. Ambrose became the University of Central Missouri s 15th president Aug. 1, A career educator who is a fervent advocate of servant leadership and engaged learning, he is committed to promoting academic quality, excellence in teaching, and the collegiate experience. During his first year at UCM, Dr. Ambrose provided leadership for the university s new Strategic Governance for Student Success Model and led an extensive governance, administrative and academic review process designed to provide a stronger, more viable educational experience for students while cutting operational costs and maximizing institutional effectiveness. Under his direction, the campus initiated a new strategic positioning platform in 2012 to provide a more articulated understanding of the vision and core values of UCM and help guide the institution in establishing its future priorities to reach the university s fullest potential. DR. CHARLES M. AMBROSE 15th President of the University of Central Missouri Dr. Ambrose s vision and leadership in 2013 also contributed to the new Learning to a Greater Degree Contract for college completion and student success, a comprehensive initiative designed to help students graduate on time with a degree that provides greater purpose and meaning. His commitment to student success is exhibited in the 15-to-Finish program, which provides resources to assure that students will take the right courses in sequence to assure a completed degree in four years. He continues to be a change leader in higher education, leading the cooperative effort between the UCM, Lee s Summit R-VII School District, Metropolitan Community College and corporate partners to develop the Missouri Innovation Campus, bridging the gap between education and business by allowing students to earn an associate degree during their last two years of high school, followed by completion of a UCM degree in two years. He is committed to making college accessible and affordable for all students through a low student debt load made possible by minimal tuition increases and scholarship funding. Dr. Ambrose has continued to build strong relationships with men and women in uniform. This includes the establishment of the Whiteman Advantage Program, which has brought together personnel from Whiteman Air Force Base and the university to create new educational opportunities for military members. The university also offers a Military Tuition Package, which provides education savings for veterans and active duty men and women currently serving their country. To support this initiative, the Military and Veterans Success Center was established in Dr. Ambrose s leadership skills in higher education gained statewide recognition as he assumed the presidency of the Council on Higher Public Education in Missouri in COLLEGE STRUCTURE The University s academic programs are currently organized into four colleges: the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; the College of Education; the College of Health, Science and Technology; and the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies. 3
