The Summer School combines high-level lectures and professionalizing training given by worldclass professors, WTO and EU officers, public administration managers and experts from the private sector operating in the international markets. 1

2 This intensive summer course is organised with the patronage of The European Commission Representation in Italy, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, CONFINDUSTRIA (Confederation of the Italian Manufacturing Industries), Bar Association of Rome (Ordine degli Avvocati di Roma), SACE and Simest. Program The course will run from 3 July to 14 July 2017 and includes 55 hours of class time divided into two weekly sessions (5 hours per day, 5 days a week), including a Round-table discussion at the end of the first week. All lectures will be given in English. Each weekly session will be taught by leading scholars and practitioners in the field, such as WTO professionals, EU Commission officers, professionals belonging to other international organizations as well as public and private institutions active in international trade. Attendance at classes is compulsory. Each day of the course, organized in units on a specific topic, will encompass lectures, seminars and case studies concerning the following thematic areas: 1) The Multilateral Trade System. WTO Agreements: Multilateral Agreements on Trade in Goods, Trade in Services (audiovisual, banking services, etc.), Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights. The participation of the EU as a strategic actor to international trade system: some criticalities. The cluster also covers trade remedies, counterfeiting, and dispute settlement mechanisms. 2) International trade and economic theory: economic analysis of trade in goods, international payments and VAT on international exchanges, effects and results of trade liberalization, benefits and effects of the international economic integration; the economic rationale behind the contingency protection measures. 3) European commercial policy post Lisbon (competences and instruments). Modernisation of the EU Trade Defense Instruments. EU preferential trade agreements; EU and its member states participation in the WTO: the distribution of competences; the EU Customs Code. The EU internal market: EU competition policy; subsidies; capital movement. Bilateral cooperation in the field of competition policy: the agreements with the US, Japan and India. The new Free Trade Agreements on goods and services concluded with ACP countries. The European protection of intellectual property. 4) Foreign Direct Investments. The new EU exclusive competence on foreign direct investments. The Draft Regulation establishing a transitional regime for bilateral investment agreements between Member States and third countries. The evolving international law on foreign investments: BITs, multilateral rules, judicial practice. Internal mechanism and bodies for the internationalization of enterprises including export assurance system and financial services: ICE, SACE, SIMEST. International commercial contracts: negotiations and drafting; different typologies of contracts (agency/licensing/selling/joint venture); introduction to the related legal framework. International commercial arbitration. The participation can be limited to one weekly session. A draft Program will be available in the following weeks on the website. 2

Qualified candidates are admitted on a rolling, space-available basis. The deadline for applying to the Summer School is 10 May Because of the interactive nature of the course, the number of participants is limited to 40. The course will be activated upon admission of at least 20 participants. Applications received after the deadline will be considered only if space remains. 5 The course will be held at the LUISS Guido Carli campus located at Viale Romania 32, Rome. During the courses, students will be provided with: Summer School teaching materials; full Internet access; access to the Library electronic sources. Participants will have access the university canteen and the in-house coffee shop. The organizing committee will be pleased to invite participants to a welcome reception and a farewell cocktail. A social and cultural program will be proposed to the students, in the evenings, on a voluntary basis, taking advantage of the cultural and musical events scheduled in Rome during the two weeks. For the period of the Summer School, the organizational staff has made provisional bookings at Hotel Delle Muse at the discounted rate of EUR per night. This includes: single room with private bathroom breakfast Certificates and credits: Upon successful completion of the course participants will be issued a certificate of attendance. and Following a written examination, participants will be qualified for the accreditation of 8 ECTS points. The participation to the Program will also qualify for the accreditation of 24 formative credits by the Ordine degli Avvocati di Roma (Bar Association of Rome). Tuition fees: Tuition fees for the Summer School have been fixed at: for the attendance of the Summer School only as comprehensive of the two weeks accommodation at Hotel Delle Muse 650 for the attendance of one weekly session of the Summer School only By 10 June 2017, applicants are to complete the enrolment procedure by paying their tuition fee. Fees will be returned if the Summer School will not be activated failing the minimum number of registrations.
