EARN CREDITS THAT TRANSFER GET A JUMP ON THE FALL SEMESTER MOVE FORWARD IN YOUR DEGREE SAVE ON TUITION LEARN A NEW SKILL FOCUS ON A NEW INTEREST DEVELOP YOUR PROFESSIONAL SKILLS NEW PROGRAMS Liberal Arts/Fine Arts Associate Degree Program The Concentration in Fine Arts offers Liberal Arts students a foundation in fine arts and is designed to facilitate transfer into a four-year fine arts degree program in studio art, art education, art history or digital art. Students develop traditional technical skills and gain in- studio experiences in two and three-dimensional mediums. In addition, the curriculum includes art history and the inclusion of digital media electives. Several agreements currently exist for transfer into four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts programs at New England institutions. Psychology Associate Degree Program The Associate of Arts in Psychology offers students a foundation of the principles of psychology and direct application of theory. This degree is designed to allow students to transfer to a four-year degree program or to begin a career connected to the field of psychology. Students will have the opportunity to use their skills in the community and design their own research.

3 Aviation Technology Associate Degree Program The Aviation Technology Helicopter Pilot Program at GBCC provides graduates with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications required to start a career as a professional helicopter pilot. Hands-on training and experience is provided by Seacoast Helicopters of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and instruction is provided by FAA-certified flight and ground instructors. No prior helicopter piloting experience is necessary and students graduate with certifications and licenses necessary to immediately start a career as a helicopter pilot or pursue a career path for entry into fields including Airport Management, Aircraft Maintenance, Airport Line Management, Fixed-Base Operation Management and Airport Maintenance. Applications are due by April 15 for the program starting May 23, Business Administration Associate Degree Program Beginning fall 2016, Great Bay Community College will offer a new Associate in Science degree in Business Ad ministration. The degree, an updated version of the former program, was developed in collaboration with industry and partners in education partners to better meet the needs of today s business environment. Academic concentrations will include: Leadership and Management, Sales and Digital Marketing, and Business Administration (University Transfer). Bioengineering & Engineering Science Associate Degree Program Beginning fall 2016, GBCC will offer two new Associate in Science degrees; Bioengineering and Engineering Science. Both are designed as transfer programs and improve upon the prior Liberal Arts concentration in Engineering by enabling students, while at Great Bay, to fulfill an increased number of credits required of many bachelor degree programs. The math and science components also serve as a foundation for a variety of engineering disciplines at 4-year colleges and universities. Both transfer programs have been developed in consultation with regional 4-year institutions to align program requirements for transfer purposes. Liberal Arts/English Associate Degree Program An English associate degree emphasizes solid, adaptable communication skills for students who love literature and language, and the exploration and development of complex ideas. As a liberal arts degree, the program provides a strong foundation for further study at the undergraduate level. The English concentration also builds important research, writing, and critical thinking skills that translate into valuable workplace contributions in a wide variety of fields. 4 COLLEGE PREPAREDNESS PROGRAMS SOCIAL STRATEGIES for COLLEGE STUDENTS June 27-August 5, 2016 Great Bay Community College is partnering with Easter Seals NH to offer a 6 week summer program, Social Strategies for College Students, at our Portsmouth campus. This program, taken in conjunction with at least one GBCC college credit, can help smooth the transition for students who are concerned about the social/communication skills necessary in college including communicating with instructors, making friends, and developing self-advocacy skills and workplace behavior. Any credit course offered this summer is acceptable, but students graduating from high school in June may be especially interested in taking our 1 credit First Year Seminar or 3 credit Essential Skills for College Success along with this program. This course will further help prepare students for the coming year by learning more about college expectations, time management, and study skills. August 15 August 26, 2016 Summer Link is a college and career readiness program for recent high school graduates. The program is designed to assist students with making a smooth transition from high school to college by helping to cultivate the skills, behaviors and dispositions necessary for success in both college and the work place. Students will engage in activities, discussions, and assignments that focus on communication, self-awareness, learning strategies, college technology, information literacy, goal setting, and leadership development. Students who successfully complete the course will earn 3 college credits (FYE150G) that may be applied towards their program at Great Bay or transferred to other colleges that accept First Year Experience courses. Let us help you figure this out through our popular 3-week Transitions Program to be held during the month of August at both the Portsmouth and Rochester campuses. Through this tuition-free program, participants become oriented with the college environment, receive instruction / tutoring to refresh math, writing, and technology skills, learn about financial aid and college expectations, and meet other new students. all before classes even begin! The College Transitions Program is geared towards individuals who have been out of school for 3 or more years or graduated with a GED or Adult Diploma, or who have been referred by an advisor. 5 ACCUPLACER TESTING Most students will do Accuplacer placement testing before choosing first semester classes doing a little review in advance can really make a difference! Learn more about Accuplacer and how to prepare at MATH BOOSTERS Often what keeps students from progressing in their program is weak or rusty math skills. Great Bay offers new and returning students the opportunity to boost their academic skills prior to the start of the fall semester. The boosters run for 3 weeks. See the chart below for specific days, times, and locations. The boosters combine faculty instruction with online tutorials. To enroll students must take the ACCUPLACER assessment and then meet with an advisor. Returning students may enroll with ACCUPLACER scores that are less than 2 years old. GBCC and SNHU recently renewed a dual admission agreement allowing students who have completed an associate degree program at Great Bay to seamlessly complete their bachelor s degree at SNHU without additional admissions requirements. Students can apply to SNHU at any time during their matriculation at Great Bay. Acceptance is contingent upon completion of the associate degree and a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher. SNHU will accept up to 90 credits towards the bachelor s degree. SNHU will work with you each semester to create your one-of-a-kind transfer pathway. SNHU and GBCC developed specific agreements that outline the courses students need to take at GBCC that will directly transfer into the desired degree program at SNHU. This allows students to plan out their course schedules for every semester. Online Course Info Online courses are a great alternative to campus-based classes, but before you jump in, review the following tips so you are making an IN- FORMED decision. Online classes require that you... Possess strong time management skills. You will need to organize your schedule to meet assignment deadlines. Communicate frequently with your instructor and fellow classmates. This means you must know how to access your student . Plan on putting aside the same amount of time for your online course as you would for a face-to-face course. In fact, online courses can be even more demanding of your time, so be prepared. Log onto Blackboard, your course management site, at least weekly to read new announcements, complete discussion boards, track assignments, etc. Online classes do have an attendance requirement that is demonstrated through your participation on the site as well as through submission of assignments.
