2 Why choose Archbishop Blanch Sixth Form? A message from our Head Girl Continuing my studies at Archbishop Blanch 6th form was the best decision to make after having such a positive experience in year s The supportive teaching staff and amazing facilities that the building has, enables all students to achieve their best. The school is not just a school but a community which emphasises the importance of friendship. I have got so many happy memories which I will take with me and treasure always. A message from our Headteacher: Firstly, it s a very good school. The exam results are consistently good at GCSE and A Level. Large numbers of pupils from Archbishop Blanch do Quotes from the Deputies: very, very well for themselves. Nearly all go on to either University, employment or even take up an 02 apprenticeship. Independent inspectors have rated the school highly. Many local people have nothing but praise for the school. All in all, Archbishop Blanch has an excellent reputation. As I have been a member of the Archbishop Blanch Community since year 7, I knew that there was nowhere else I wanted to study for my A Levels. The sense of community & friendship makes learning a much easier and more welcoming experience, as well as enabling pupils to make many happy memories. The 03 As a Church of England Sixth Form we can offer you a unique opportunity to come to a Sixth Form where you will be known, supported and cared for. We can offer you a unique opportunity to make an even bigger contribution to school life here - we value teaching and additional support offered in this school is second to none and our state of the art facilities allow all pupils to reach their potential. I have loved my experience in this school and have been honoured to be part of the Deputy Head Girl Team. Deputy Head Girl your ideas and, where we can, we act on them. When Ofsted inspectors visited us last, they were pleased with what they saw: students leave in Year 13 having made good progress and with standards which are above average. Everyone in the school has made me feel welcome. It is an amazing community to be a part of. Each individual is respected and supported with whatever help and guidance they need. Deputy Head Boy Archbishop Blanch School is an excellent place to learn and it is a privilege to be the Headteacher of such a dynamic and special school. Choosing to study at ABS Sixth Form is the best decision I made. After such Heather Duggan, Headteacher a positive experience in the lower school, I knew that I didn t want to go anywhere else. The exceptional teaching and support and the emphasis upon enrichment opportunities provides all students with a platform to achieve the best they can in school and beyond. There is a strong sense of community and friendship and I have made many happy memories here. I would definitely recommend this Sixth Form to anyone! Deputy Head Girl

4 Induction Meet the Sixth Form Team I m proud to be Head of Sixth Form at Archbishop Blanch. As well as achieving high grades our students receive top class pastoral care, support and fantastic extra curricular and enrichment opportunities. As a result, our students are sought after by universities and employers. Director of KS5 Deputy Head of Sixth Form at Archbishop Blanch School is a privileged and inspiring role. Students communicate well with us, enabling us to support them the best we can and this helps to create a friendly, relaxed and purposeful environment in which they can thrive. It s exciting to be a part of their lives at this stage, helping them develop confidence, a wide range of personal skills and their academic goals. This is a happy and dynamic place to be a Sixth Form student. Deputy Head of Sixth Form 06 We offer an extensive induction programme designed to motivate students and develop all important study skills. The programme creates ideal opportunities to mix with new people and make friends. New students to the school are made to feel welcome and settle quickly! Sixth Form Pastoral Support System On entry into the Sixth Form, students are allocated to a tutor. The tutor is able, through the Tutorial Programme, to give time to each student to help with aspects of student life such as study methods, organisation of work and time, use of resources and help with careers, communication skills and personal development. The Pastoral Leader will be the first contact should a problem arise. Mentoring Form tutors have a special pastoral responsibility. Time is available at the beginning of each day for individual mentoring sessions. During these sessions it s your time to discuss your progress towards target grades. You can discuss any issues that may be affecting progress. You will not be left on your own to cope with the different demands of Post 16 courses. Miss V. Ellis Director of KS5 Miss J. McGowan Deputy Head 6th Form & Progress Leader Year 12 Mrs A. Davies Progress Leader Year 13 Mrs M. Shurie Pastoral Leader Supervised Study In your own study area you will have the opportunity to carry out independent learning. Study Support What s on Offer? Fantastic Choice of Subjects As far as possible, the Sixth Form timetable is based on the needs and choices of you - the student. This means that a wide range of subjects is on offer so that you can, if you choose, continue with subjects which you have studied previously. It also offers the opportunity to take up new subjects such as Performing Arts, Government & Politics, Sociology, Health & Social Care, Psychology and Digital Media to name a few. There are additional subjects on offer through our partnership with Bellerive, St Hilda s and St Margaret s. For students enrolling on courses in September 2017 the choice of subjects has never been greater! This is a positive programme designed to help students who are below target. Students on this programme receive extra mentoring to help to get back on task. I chose this Sixth Form because there are a good variety of courses to suit everyone, there is also a friendly atmosphere from both staff and pupils. I felt this was the best Sixth Form for me to study at, as well as for socialising with friends and for meeting new students. Collective Worship As a Church of England Sixth Form value the part that our collective worship plays within our school community. This may take the form of an assembly, form prayer time or reflection. Our whole school worships both at school and at special celebrations in the Cathedral. 07
5 ENRICHMENT Employers and Universities look for students who have lots of experience beyond study. We ask that you carry out 100 hours enrichment over the two years in Sixth Form. Enrichment can consist of carrying out voluntary work, work experience & supporting younger students. Students can also carry out sporting activities, help with school events, worship, music, debates and Interact fundraising. Students are also allowed and encouraged to organise their own enrichment activities to support their personal development. Supporting younger students in lessons has increased my confidence & has taught me to use my own initiative. It is a great link between & the lower school students. I value the experience and always look forward to going. TRIPS AND RESIDENTIALS We offer varied and exciting trips within the 6th form. Recent trips enjoyed by our students trips include to Barcelona, Euro Disney, Berlin, North West India (with World Challenge), along with many other subject-related trips and outings which take place each year. The fantastic feedback from such trips from staff and students are testament to the wide-ranging value these activities bring. UNIVERSITY APPLICATION PROCESS - UCAS A high percentage of our students go to University. We offer excellent support throughout the process. The Sixth Form team will provide first class advice and guidance. We help with the choosing of SIXTH FORM COUNCIL The council which consists of the Head Girl, deputies and representatives from each tutor group meet regularly with The Sixth Form team. Matters relevant to Sixth Form life are discussed and all members of Sixth Form are free to put items on the agenda. Taking an active part in DUKE OF EDINBURGH Our students also have the opportunity to be involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. We offer direct Gold, which includes a four day expedition. Students are also involved with World Challenge and have been to exciting places such as Africa and India. 08 courses, completing the application, writing school life is extremely useful when applying for and checking of personal statement and jobs and Higher Education. 09 reference writing.
