2 Application Deadlines Session Deadline Fall June 1 Winter October 1 Spring/Summer February 1 Admission Requirements and Procedures All Programs The Admission Requirements for programs offered through the School of Continuing Studies vary and may also include additional documents not listed in the Supporting Documents All Programs section below. Please ensure that you consult the web at or the University Continuing Studies calendar for the admission requirements for the specific program you would like to apply to. Please complete this application form and return it along with the required supporting documents. Application Fee Payment Applications must be accompanied by an acceptable form of payment. The $65 non-refundable application fee can be paid by credit card, certified cheque, or money order, payable to McGill University in Canadian or U.S. funds. If paying by credit card, complete the credit card authorization section on the application form. Cash or personal cheques are not accepted. Supporting Documents All Programs 1) An unofficial transcript (if applicable) accompanied by two pieces of identification. Arrangements should be made to have an official transcript confirming degree completion sent directly to the School of Continuing Studies. 2) Proof of age: Students 21 years of age and over who do not have the normal academic background for admission may be admitted as mature students. Two pieces of personal identification must be attached. Note: You cannot apply as a mature student to Graduate level programs. 3) TOEFL, IELTS or McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English is required if your mother tongue is not English. Students who have completed both Secondary V and a Diploma of Collegial Studies in Quebec are not required to submit proof of proficiency in English. *The above document is not required for applications to the Certificate in Translation, Graduate Diploma in Translation and the Certificates of Proficiency (English and/or French) for Professional Communication. 4) Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant status (if applicable): Refer to Proof of Citizenship section of this form. 5) Proof of Residency in Quebec: In order to comply with auditing and funding regulations of the Quebec Ministry of Education, students who claim to be residents of Quebec must provide documentary proof in support of their claim. Refer to Proof of Residency in Quebec section of this form. 6) The Ministry of Education of Quebec (MEQ) requires that all students attending a Quebec university have a Permanent Code. Refer to Permanent Code section of this application. All required supporting documents must reach the School of Continuing Studies by the admission deadline date, i.e. June 1 for Fall admission, October 1 for Winter admission and February 1 for Spring/Summer admission. Translation Programs Applicants for the Certificate in Translation program must, in addition to the requirements listed in all programs, pass a compulsory Entrance Examination. Applicants to the Graduate Diploma in Translation must, in addition to the requirements listed in all programs, must have a degree (i.e. a Bachelor s degree) from a recognized university that is equivalent to an undergraduate degree as approved by the Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et de l immigration. If the degree is in another field, applicants will be required to follow a qualifying program or the Certificate in Translation. Official Transcripts of grades and confirmation of degree completion is mandatory (refer to Admission to Graduate Level Programs section of this form). Certificates of Proficiency - English and/or French for Professional Communication Programs Applicants for the Certificates of Proficiency (English or French) for Professional Communication program must, in addition to the requirements listed in all programs, pass a compulsory entrance placement test and submit their test result along with their application. Admission to Graduate Level Programs Candidates wishing to apply to a graduate program must have a degree (i.e. a Bachelor s degree) from a recognized university that is equivalent to an undergraduate degree as approved by the Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et de l immigration. Applicants wishing to follow programs at the Graduate level must, in addition to the requirements listed in All Programs, make arrangements for the following documents to be sent directly to the School for Continuing Studies: 1. An official transcript listing all grades and courses completed, including written confirmation of degree completion and date of graduation or degree conferral. For foreign educational institutions, official transcripts in the original-language are required along with translations in English or French. If the school cannot provide a translation, you may arrange for a certified translator to translate the official document that we received here at McGill. Important: Transcripts sent to McGill University become the property of the University and will not be returned or forwarded to other institutions. OR 2. An official transcript (as above) accompanied by a letter from your University stating the intended date of graduation, if you have not already graduated. 3. If you have studied outside Canada, you are advised to request an evaluation of your degree called an Évaluation comparative des études effectuées hors du Québec, from Quebec s Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et de l immigration. This equivalency evaluation will be required along with an official transcript when applying for admission to a graduate program. You will not be permitted to register if you fail to provide the documents listed above. What are official documents at McGill? McGill requires official versions of all transcripts and statements of academic standing from schools or other educational institutions. Test scores and examination results must also be official. At McGill, official signifies that the school, educational institution or Examination Board, sends directly to McGill University without intermediary all transcripts, statements of academic standing, test scores and examination results. We do not accept as official any sealed envelopes of documents submitted by the applicant, copies of documents certified by a notary, commissioner of oaths, Canadian Education Centre or embassy staff member. We do not make conditional decisions based on unofficial transcripts or statements of academic standing. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted or used for admission. Additionally, McGill University does not accept electronically scanned transcripts.

3 Permanent Code The Ministry of Education of Quebec (MEQ) requires all students attending a Quebec University, for whom the University receives funding from the MEQ, to hold a Permanent Code. Students applying to McGill who already hold a Permanent Code should indicate the number on their application form. Any student who has attended high school or CEGEP in Quebec should already have a Permanent Code issued by the MEQ. The identification number can usually be found at the top right-hand corner of a high school or CEGEP transcript. If you do not have a Permanent Code, the University must collect the appropriate documents and data to submit to the MEQ, so that a code may be created for you. Attach a clear and legible photocopy of one of the following documents to the application form. If possible, submit a document that provides the first and last names of both parents. Please refer to our website at for a copy of the form. For Canadian and Permanent Resident applicants: Canadian Birth Certificate Certificate of Selection of Quebec (CSQ) Permanent Resident card (both sides) or Record of Landing (IMM1000/5292) For International Applicants: Student Authorization issued by Immigration Canada and Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec (CAQ) Convention Refugee status document Birth Certificate Proof of Canadian Citizenship/Permanent Residency As per the Ministry of Education of Quebec, students who are citizens or Permanent Residents (landed immigrants) of Canada must provide proof of their status, in order to avoid being assessed international tuition fees. The proof must be a copy of one of the following documents: Canadian birth certificate OR Canadian citizenship card (both sides) the Certificate of Canadian citizenship is not acceptable Valid Canadian passport AND a document demonstrating your Permanent Code (Quebec High school or CEGEP transcript, or an AFE document) Permanent Resident card (both sides) and Record of Landing (IMM1000 or IMM5292) Proof of Quebec Residency Students who are citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada, and who wish to qualify for the Quebec rate of tuition fees, must also provide proof of Quebec residency along with their proof of citizenship. There are two ways of establishing Quebec residency status: with an Attestation of Residency in Quebec form (available on the web at where the appplicant must qualify for one of the situations indicated on the form and send in the form signed and dated, along with all the documents requested on the attestation. without an Attestation of Residency in Quebec form, where the applicant must qualify for one of the situations indicated below and submit proof to that effect: Applicant was born in Quebec (documents: Quebec birth certificate or valid Canadian passport indicating Quebec as place of birth). Applicant obtained Landed Immigrant status by virtue of a Certificate of Selection of Quebec (CSQ) (documents: CSQ document, written confirmation from Immigration Quebec that a CSQ was issued). Applicant completed high school and CEGEP in Quebec. Documents: final high school and final CEGEP transcripts indicating a minimum of last two years of high school completed in Quebec and a minimum of two years of CEGEP. Completion of a D.E.S. and D.E.C. Applicant was approved for a Quebec loan for the current academic year (document: Quebec loan certificate). Applicant is a member of an aboriginal community of Quebec (document: letter from the band council official, band membership card). Knowing the Status of Your Application Notices acknowledging receipt of applications are sent by regular mail, as well as by when an address is provided. Your acknowledgement notice will provide you with your identification number (McGill I.D.) as well as a password that you can use to log on to the Minerva web site: At this web site, you will be able to check the status of your application and, as your supporting documents are received and recorded, you will be able to verify which documents (if any) are still missing, as well as the admission decision.
