PRAHALAD (SI), DRDO Chairman - Governing Council Dr. PRAHLADA, born on the 05 February 1947 in Bangalore, is a Mechanical Engineering Graduate from University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, Bangalore University (1969). Subsequently, he got his Masters Degree in Aeronautical Engineering Department from IISc., Bangalore in the year 1971, with specialization in Rockets and Missile Systems and PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad in Supersonic Combustion. He was awarded honorary doctorate from Sri Venkateswara University, Hyderabad in Since 1971 he has served in various ISRO and DRDO Establishments covering VSSC, Trivandrum, ADE Bangalore and DRDL, Hyderabad. His areas of interest cover flight controls, guidance, propulsion, system design and system engineering. As Chief Controller (R&D) at DRDO Hqrs, he is heading Services Interactions, International Cooperation, Foreign Offices, extra-mural research, Intellectual Property Rights and Business Development. He is also leading the Integrated Guided Missile Program as the Chairman of the Program Board. As Director DRDL he has initiated many new projects like Astra, air to air missile system, Long Range Surface to air missile system for Naval application, Joint Venture Project Brahmos Supersonic cruise missile system and hypersonic technology demonstrator. His current research interest is in hypersonic flight vehicles integrated with air breathing scramjet engine. He is recipient of DRDO Scientist of the Year 2004 Award He is recipient of HMA Member of the Year Award He is recipient of IISc Distinguished Alumnus Award 2003 He is recipient of National Aeronautical Prize 1998 His other areas of interest include R&D Management, Project Management, Technology Management and Knowledge Management. HULINAYKAR, MBBS, MS Member - Governing Council He is the founder trustee of Sri Shridevi Charitable Trust established in the year 2001 with the aim to provide quality education to all the sections of the society. Shridevi Institute of Engineering & Technology is started by the trust in the year Dr. M.R. Hulinaykar is a surgeon by profession and is the Managing Director of Shridevi Hospital and Diagnostic Centre of 200 beds which is the leading hospital started by him in Tumkur city. Under his leadership, the trust is also running a host of educational institutions starting from primary to collegiate education offering B.Ed., D.Ed., Nursing, Paramedical, Engineering courses, etc. He is a philanthropist dignity in personality epitomized with Service & Development as his hymn. GANGADHAR KODALIYAVAR, BE (Civil) Member Governing Council He is an Engineer by profession and he is the trustee of Sri Shridevi Charitable Trust. The deeply intellectual personality with lyrical talent and is having vast experience in the field of Civil Engineering. He has brought out two books which are collection of poems and they are well received by literary world. The beautiful campus and buildings of the institute are a result of his effort. PROF. THANDAVESHWARA - AICTE NOMINEE He was the Head of the Dept. of Environmental & Water Resource Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and he is the AICTE Nominee, currently he is a Prof. & Head of the department of Civil Engineering in Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore. He has lot of achievement under his credit which includes guiding many scholars leading to Ph.d and M.Tech Programmes. 8 10.10 Student feedback mechanism on Institutional Governance/faculty performance Students counseling system is implemented since the inception of the institution and any opinion of students are addressed by the counselors/teacher in consultation with HODs and Principal. Performance appraisal of the staff by the students is conducted regularly after the closure of classes at end of every semester compulsorily. The performance appraisal is valued and is made known to each staff with the forms given to them so that the staff can improve and excel in their profession by the valuable feed back Grievance redressal mechanism for faculty, staff and students The staff is free to express any of their problems/grievances relating to academics/co-curricular activities with the Heads of the Departments, Principal in the regular meetings and suitable redressal of the grievances will be made as early as possible. Students have free and democratic access to all the Teachers, Counselors, Heads and Principal so that nothing is hindrance in student teacher interaction. Any grievance of a student in academic, personal problems etc. would be attended by the teachers in consultation with Heads, Warden, etc. so that they are provided with homely atmosphere. 22 10.17 Academic Sessions : Odd Sem Aug to Jan Even Sem Feb to July Examination system, Year / Semester : Semester Period of declaration of results : With in days of completion of exam Counseling / Mentoring : Each student of the our college is taken care of for all round development with the most congenial atmosphere. Each teacher is allocated a batch of students to be taken of by counseling. The counseling system is adopted has developed a discipline in the ambience and each student is known to the teacher. The continues report of students progress in studies and academic oriented activities is sent to the parents regularly. Career Counseling : The institution has a Training and Placement cell for conducting activities like interviews, special lecturers, workshops, group discussions, personality development programmes etc., The cell promotes industry institute interaction, organization of industrial training and gets the sponsored projects from the industry. Value added courses, soft skills development programmes, Industrial visits, expert lectures, entrepreneurship awareness camp, competitive exams etc., have been organized regularly by the cell. Medical facilities : Doctors will be available from 4-6 pm in the boys and girls hostel for the clinical check-ups. The trust owns a hospital which provides 24 hours medical service and students can the avail the medical facilities. Student Insurance : Group Insurance of students for Rs.1,00,000/- is insured for all the students. If a student is met with an accident, for permanent disability 80% and Hospitalization 20% amount will be paid by the insurance company Students Activity Body : Every department have their technical associations to enable the students to achieve extra skills and expertise by conducting seminars, workshops, research oriented programmes, competitions etc., The departmental associations arrange industry-institute interaction through a number of industrial visits, sponsoring the students to conferences, paper presentations, workshops, tech fairs, exhibitions, etc., The students showing high performance in the academic exams are honored by the associations to boost further. The institute has NSS unit of 100 volunteers strength headed by the programme officer in which students are motivated and oriented to work towards social services like blood donation camp, plantation programmes, health awareness camps, literacy awareness camp, etc. It also conducts a 7 days special camp where the students are participated zealously with great success. 23 Cultural activities : The institute encourages the students to exploring their hidden artistic talents by providing platforms like SINCHANA, a cultural forum to provide a showcase for poetry, paining, sculptures, written articles, fine arts, etc. Shirustav the annual cultural and sports festival provides a stage for activities like drama, dances, music, arts etc., A series of cultural melas will be held in every semester to promote the students flair for cultural activities. Sports activities : The institution provides ample opportunities for the students to take part in all indoor and outdoor activities. The institution has facilities for Playing Volley ball, Foot ball, Basket ball, Cricket, Table Tennis, ball badminton carom, etc. A Multigym is established for the keeping the students physique and health fit. The institution also organizes intercollegiate tournaments, university level sports, yogasana competitions, etc., regularly. The college has adventure club which organizes activities like trekking, rappelling, paragliding, water sports, valley crossing and tours to historical places in which the students participate with great zeal and enthusiasm Literary activities : The paper presentation cell and departmental organizations have been conducting technical quiz, literary competitions, etc. The students are displaying the articles in fields other than technical regularly everyday on the cultural display board, Sinchana. The students have been encouraged by honoring them with prizes for the best display of the literary articles in the annual fest Shriutsav. Magazine / Newsletter : The half yearly news bulletin on all the activities academic and nonacademic is brought out in the name Sinchana. The college souvenir INCHARA is brought out annually showcasing the best articles, achievements, etc. depicting the overall development of the institute. Technical activities / TechFest : ISTE and CSI students chapters conducts activities like coaching camps for attending job interviews, soft skills, faculty development conducted by experts and resource persons from industries. State Level and National Level seminars, paper presentations, workshops, management fests are conducted regularly. Industrial Visits / Tours : Every department organizes industrial visits compulsorily to provide corporate exposure and understanding the industrial environment to students. Alumni activities : The annual alumni meet is conducted on 26th January every year. All the alumni of the institute congregate at their alma matter to strengthen their ties and association by conducting convention for mutual benefit.
