Bordering the Pacific Rim and Mexico, San Diego is recognized globally as a dynamic international hub. San Diego s geographic location and diverse regional population create plenty of opportunities for work experience and learning. Known for its near-perfect climate, miles of sandy beaches, and fun-filled waterfront activities, our region is home to a wide range of industries, from manufacturing, electronics, and bio-technology to agriculture, research, and tourism. From the hustle and bustle of the Gaslamp Quarter downtown to the charming and eclectic beach towns of Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, and La Jolla, San Diego offers a wide variety of social and cultural activities. With all the amenities for living, working and playing, it s no wonder San Diego is nicknamed America s Finest City! San Diego State University is in the very southwest corner of the United States. Over 3500 students live on campus each year. Students choose to live on campus for a variety of reasons including convenience, proximity to campus, meeting friends, and fully experiencing the U.S. college tradition. San Diego, with its warm weather and beautiful beaches, is a very desirable place to live. Therefore, finding off-campus housing can sometimes be a challenge. If you prepare early, however, you should be able to find a place to live that suits your needs. Transport MTS (Metropolitan Transit System) operates buses, trolleys and coasters, which provide convenient transportation throughout San Diego County. The San Diego Trolley runs every 15 minutes throughout most of the day and in intervals of 30 minutes in the evening. North Country Transit District Coaster is the commuter train service for San Diego County and runs 43 miles along the coast with station stops in downtown San Diego, Old Town, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside. Greyhound operates the intercity bus service, whilst Amtrak provides the intercity train service. 511 is a free phone and web service that consolidates San Diego s regional transportation information into a one-stop resource. 7
