1 INDIANA AGRICULTURE TEACHERS WORKSHOP GENERAL INFORMATION JUNE 26-27, 2017 The 2017 Indiana High School Agriculture Teachers Workshop is hosted by the Purdue University College of Agriculture. COSTS Each IAAE member is charged a fee of $90 to cover some workshop expenses. Non- member fee is $180. Workshop participants are responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and expenses. There is a $35 fee for those who cannot attend the workshops but would like to attend the Monday night banquet. Teachers retiring this year and their spouses are invited to attend the banquet free of charge. Please indicate your choice on the registration form. Registrants who are unable to attend will be granted refunds upon written request until June 1, Purdue University is not responsible for costs incurred by registrants due to cancellation. PARKING Parking for Thursday on-campus sessions is provided in your registration. You will receive a pass at registration to place on your dashboard. Parking at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel and Beck Center is free. LODGING The IHSATW and NAAEIV will take place in the Courtyard Marriott. Each attendee is responsible for his or her own lodging. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Courtyard Marriott for both IHSATW and NAAEIV. A hands on workshop relating to Soils Judging. Be prepared to be in pits, so dress appropriately, bring clipboards and anything else needed to judge and learn. Specifically designed to cover the new rules. Designed for all from the person just learning about soils judging to one who has won a state championship. 1:15-2:30 pm A-2. Hosting a Purdue Agricultural Education Student Teacher Purdue AgEd Staff This session answers your questions about being a cooperating teacher. With new teacher licensure requirements, this session is appropriate for those interested in becoming a cooperating teacher as well as those who have had student teachers in the past. A-3. Small Animals in the Classroom Tom Wallace, Owen Valley High School An interactive session discussing the benefits of implementing small animal projects into AgEd classes, and how to successfully start and implement small animal programs.

Soil Health Activities Dr. Natalie Carroll, YDAE Learn about Purdue s new Soil Health online repository containing hands-on soil health educational activities for high school teachers and a photo and video library. The activities are free and can be downloaded and used as you think best. This resource is intended to help you use experiential learning activities to teach students about soil health. C-2. Apps in the Classroom Speed Dating Small groups discuss an educational app then move to the next table to discuss another. C-3. World Food Prize Youth Institute Amy Jones and Kelly Delp, Purdue College of Agriculture, Keegan Kautzky, World Food Prize At a World Food Prize Youth Institute, high school students and their teachers participate in a free event where they can interact with and learn from experts in agriculture and other disciplines related to global food security and network with enthusiastic students and teachers. This session explores the benefits to you and your students and explains the process for participating. 3:15-4:45 pm C-4. Using AgExplorer, FFA Resume Generator, and My Journey Effectively Ambra Tennery and Educational Development and Assessment Team, National FFA Learn what these tools can do for your students and how you can use them in classroom instruction. C-5. Practical Ways to Implement Ag Power, Structure, and Technology into the Classroom Tim Hale, Vincennes University John Deere Program, Diesel Department Chair An overview of electricity will be discussed, and attendees will receive hands-on training in building and understanding circuits and digital multi-meters. An overview of combine material flow (from platform to residue management) will be discussed, and attendees will have an opportunity to discuss how Vincennes University and the John Deere program can help ag teachers at their respective schools. C-6. Proficiency Awards Brett Evans, National FFA SAE Education A hands-on session working through National FFA proficiency awards, describing how to properly complete the applications. Bring laptops or tablets. C-7. CBAT Beth Theobald and Charity Keffaber Coaches for Beginning Ag Teachers (CBAT) pairs an experienced Ag teacher with a first-year teacher.
