In particular, Fellows will have the opportunity to work on projects in Global Medical Communications and Global Medical Information, with the aim of preparing them for a successful career in this crucial and dynamic area. 6 FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW Our 2-year Fellowship Program is designed for PharmD graduates who have an interest in pursuing a challenging and dynamic career in the biopharmaceutical industry. Fellows will gain broad interdepartmental exposure and a firm foundation within the company that will pave the way for a successful industry career path. Program aims To deliver specialized training via key departments in the Shire Global Medical Affairs Group, including Global Medical Information and Global Medical Communications. To enhance scientific knowledge and communication skills while offering valuable insights into the pharmaceutical industry. To make a significant contribution to satisfying customer needs and achieving company goals. To enable Fellows to gain the required skills and experience needed to pursue a successful career within Global Medical Affairs. Program structure Year 1 Fellows will participate in two rotations, of 6 months each, within Global Medical Information and Global Medical Communications. Year 2 Fellows will focus on projects in one specific functional area (either Global Medical Information or Global Medical Communications), based on their own professional goals and the particular needs of the business. Throughout the program, Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in projects within other business areas, such as Global Medical Publications, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), Medical Science Liaison (MSL), and Global Regulatory Affairs, as well as within specific therapeutic areas. 4

8 GLOBAL MEDICAL AFFAIRS FUNCTIONAL AREAS Global Medical Communications The Global Medical Communications Department works in partnership and collaboration with the Global Medical Affairs Therapeutic Area to provide support to licensed treatments and the research pipeline in terms of medical review of promotional materials, congress planning, symposia development, and creation of medical content. During the 6-month rotation in Medical Communications, Fellows will be given key opportunities to achieve the following. Build a comprehensive knowledge base of products in our portfolio and the current treatment paradigms that govern the relevant disease states. Gain understanding of regulatory and legal guidelines regarding medical communications strategy and execution, as well as medical review of advertising and promotional materials, and scientific and educational materials. Develop an understanding of the scientific communication platforms that serve as the foundation for all medical communications and publication plans, as well as the execution of all tactics associated with such plans. Learn how to collect scientific intelligence at congresses and how, using published literature, to understand and stay abreast of the rapidly evolving competitive landscape. 6

9 Attend and participate in a major congress, providing integral service as a staff member at our Global Medical Affairs booth. Implement core and state-of-the-art digital technology at congresses and symposia as well as in physician-focused websites, learning in the process about platforms to disseminate information on Shire s portfolio of products. Develop strategies and initiatives to improve and streamline current processes for scientific data and communications services to internal and external stakeholders. Further advance the internal education of medical and non-medical functions at Shire by developing training programs on key data findings, learnings from Shire s published literature, and competitive insights. Support regional and country teams to execute product launches. Develop, implement, and present a research project at a premier Medical Information or Communications meeting. 7

10 GLOBAL MEDICAL AFFAIRS FUNCTIONAL AREAS Global Medical Information The Global Medical Information Department is responsible for critical medical and scientific information analysis across therapy areas. We are a customer-facing team providing medical and scientific knowledge on all Shire treatments. During the 6-month rotation in Medical Information, Fellows will be provided with enhanced experiences and development opportunities to do the following. Provide accurate, fair, balanced, and current medical information about Shire therapies to healthcare professionals, consumers, and key internal stakeholders. Become proficient in the skill of medical writing by preparing key documents, FAQs, and standard response letters to be shared with our providers, patients, and internal colleagues. Learn how to think critically, analyse data, and communicate effectively when reviewing pertinent literature, generating literature flashes, and conveying information about inquiry trends and unmet medical needs to stakeholders as a way of strategically guiding Medical Information activities. Attend and participate in a major congress, providing integral service as a staff member at our Global Medical Affairs booth. Contribute to multidisciplinary teams and build relationships with other departments (e.g. Global Medical Affairs Therapeutic Area, Regulatory, Medical Communications, and Health Economics). Develop, implement, and present a research project at a premier Medical Information or Communications meeting. Serve as a rotation mentor to pharmacy clerkship students or summer interns and learn about vendor relations and call center oversight. 8

12 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT In the unique setting of rare diseases, this Fellowship gave me invaluable opportunities to work alongside, be challenged by, and learn from some of the brightest people in the industry. The multitude of chances to be involved in key projects have allowed me to learn by doing under the guidance of various mentors, enabling me to begin to define my own voice as a Medical Affairs professional. Most importantly, through interactions with patients, patient advocates and providers, Shire and this Fellowship have shown me the responsibility we have to our patients and providers, and the unique position we are in to impact not only a handful of patients but whole communities. Claire Liu, Scientific Publications Fellow Current role: Shire, Publications Lead, Hematology Throughout my Fellowship experience, I gained valuable knowledge and skill sets that will be the foundation of my future career. The Fellowship is structured in such a way that it allowed me to become an integral member of the US Medical Affairs Immunology therapy area team and exposed me to various collaborative opportunities. Because the Fellowship focuses on strategic thinking, innovation, collaboration, and patient centricity, I am confident that I developed the skills necessary to become a well-rounded professional within the pharmaceutical industry. Dustin Cavida, Immunology Fellow Current role: Shire, Medical Science Liaison, Gastrointestinal Disorders/Internal Medicine As a Fellow, I was integrated fully with the Medical Information team, and was able to develop a solid foundation of skills and knowledge that I will utilize for the rest of my career. The support and mentorship from my colleagues enabled me to grow as a professional, and facilitated my involvement in several projects with high impact on both our patients and healthcare professionals. 13 CURRENT FELLOWS So far, my experience as a Shire Fellow has afforded me the opportunity to learn the full role of a Medical Affairs professional hands-on. 14 APPLICATION PROCESS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Shire will be conducting interviews in the Personnel Placement Service (PPS) Exhibit Hall at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting in December. Candidates are requested to note the following requirements. Fellows for the Shire Pharmaceutical Industry Postdoctoral Fellowship Program are selected on a nationally competitive basis. Candidates must have completed all requirements for graduation from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited institution before the July 9, 2018 start date. Candidates wishing to apply for the Shire Pharmaceutical Industry Postdoctoral Fellowship Program are strongly encouraged to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and to register through the PPS. We ask that candidates submit a curriculum vitae or résumé through the PPS by November 15, 2017 in order to be considered for interviews at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. Candidates are encouraged to submit materials immediately to enhance their opportunities for being selected for a Fellowship.
