11 Post-Secondary Apprenticeships: Skilled trades. Information available in the Guidance and Career Centre College : 100% of programs require English. 65% of programs require Math. University: Almost every programs requires/needs 4UEnglish. Each program has very specific course requirements. Students should access einfo. This can be viewed online at University admission is based on 6 U and M courses. Grades requirements vary depending on programs.

12 University vs. College Type of Educational Experience University offers a theoretical and academic educational experience. There can be a generalist or specialist approach. Asks WHY? College offers a hands -on approach to education. Training is specialized for particular occupations. Asks HOW?

13 University vs. College What do you get? From a University, you earn a degree. From a College, you earn a diploma or certificate. Many Colleges now have links with universities and are able to offer Applied degrees

14 University vs. College How long does it take? For University, three or four years for an undergraduate program, considerably longer for a master s or Ph. D. In College, one year for a certificate; two or three years for a diploma. Generally speaking, technician is a two year program and technologist is a three year program.

15 Apprenticeship Apprentices earn money while they are training - have graduated salaries. Apprenticeship typically lasts between two and five years. Grade 12 is preferred in most cases. Trades include construction, service, transportation and industry.

16 University Bound? Generally, University study requires a minimum of 6 U or M stream credits. Carefully check INFO and the university admission publications.

17 College Bound? Ontario Secondary School Diploma Specific Grade 12 courses (depending on your program) Some programs are highly competitive and you may need to achieve above average grades in some courses. Some additional selection criteria (tests, interviews, info sessions, portfolios, etc.)

23 Important Info Level Change: (Science and English) Students may change academic levels with solid course mark, parent & teacher approval Prerequisites In order to take some grade 11 & 12 courses students must have the grade 10 prerequisite course choose carefully Study Period Students are NOT permitted to have a study period in grade 10 Continuing Education (Night, Summer, and Online Education) Students should discuss with his/her counsellor before taking any courses through continuing education (Summer/Night/ON- Line/Private/etc.)

24 Co-operative Education 2 credits, 3 credits, or 4 credits - co-op may offer you a chance to experience some career that is of interest. 2 credits in Co-op can now count as compulsory courses in groups 1, 2, or 3. Complete School Cash Online payment. 4. Print off receipt from School Cash Online. 5. Sign all media consent forms in registration package. 6. Bring completed package to the cafeteria during your lunch December 19 th 21 st.
