13 Meeting the needs of high school students who must also satisfy the Michigan Merit curriculum. Plus educating ally parents about FERPA. Challenging to leave local high schools to spend the day at The Early College. The coursework is academic challenging for most of our students. In terms of college or credit transfer, what are the most difficult challenges for Early / Middle College staff? This would be best answered by the high school staff. Since this is the first year of the program the difficulty most encountered was the surprise of how much work is required for college coursework. Helping parents to understand the process The most difficult challenge, being our first year, is getting the student college ready with having high enough placement scores. Even our A and B students, where finding it difficult to pass the Accuplacer test at our community college. The biggest challenge facing our Early College program is helping students understand the importance of not over-scheduling. It is also a challenge to determine which class to withhold depending on the student's unique situation. Explaining the transfer process to students and parents. Our program is designed to help students who normally would not consider college and help them earn a credential that is marketable on it's own. However, if the student wants to transfer, we explain how articulation agreements work. Scheduling - making the HS and College classes work program management within each individual district/isd Aligning coursework that will transfer to a chosen college other than the one they are earning credit in now.

14 In terms of college or credit transfer, what are the most difficult challenges for Early / Middle College students? Being sure the courses they take here fit into programs selected at their choice 4- year university or college. I'll get this information and it to you separately, as I need to get the info from the MISD. We are upfront with all SC Edge students about the certificate and associate degree they are earning. It's not intended to be a transfer degree, but it can transfer with an articulation agreement to several local colleges. Maturity issues in time management. One of the most common complaints about the Early College program from students is juggling sports schedules and their college schedule. Students struggle with the sacrifices they are asked to make in order to take college courses while still in high school.
