2 Welcome The Sixth Form at Cornwallis Academy is a thriving community where our expert staff work hard to ensure each student meets their expected outcomes and become well-rounded, independent and successful young adults. We provide a modern, dynamic education, whilst embedding traditional academic values of determination and diligence. All Sixth Form students are expected to be aspirational, motivated and fully committed to their studies. Our Sixth Form is built on two key principles: achieving academic success and preparing for the future through involvement in our enrichment programme. We firmly believe that both are equally important in ensuring our students develop and thrive. Whether you are joining us from Year 11 within Future Schools Trust, or joining from another school, our Sixth Form provides you with an opportunity to continue your studies in a mature learning environment. 3 Ethos We expect our students to focus on their learning at all times. Whilst traditional principles are at the heart of the academy, helping us to provide a caring and welcoming environment where young people can thrive, we are also fully committed to having ambitions for all. We provide an exceptional learning environment where ambitions are achieved within a safe and ethical approach. As a learning community, we all actively engage in providing the best education, as well as creating a sense of belonging and pride. We are dedicated to ensuring all of our students are successful, motivated, inspired, learning, engaged and excited to be part of The Sixth Form at Cornwallis Academy. Wellbeing and Support The Sixth Form team works alongside a group of dedicated tutors, who are each responsible for a form group and provide both academic and pastoral support. The tutors offer a wealth of knowledge to complement our broad curriculum and are all experienced UCAS referees. By continuing my education at Sixth Form, I was able to choose from a wide range of courses, which I can study in familiar surroundings with teachers who already know my strengths and ambitions. - a Year 12 student We also have our own dedicated careers and guidance officer to work with our Sixth Form students and ensure they are prepared for their next step. Every student will receive continued advice and support when considering their future options, be that university, an apprenticeship or employment. To help make the transition to Sixth Form as smooth and as informative as possible, we offer taster and induction days in addition to our annual Open Evening. During these events, students can experience life at our Sixth Form, interact with their peers and staff and explore the fantastic range of subjects we have to offer.

4 Curriculum Enrichment Our exclusive curriculum has been designed to inspire and support all students on their journey to achieving future success. Our enrichment activities are what give our Sixth Form its unique identity. Students engage in a range of mentoring schemes, work experience placements, conferences, charity work opportunities, holiday clubs, local primary school partnerships and a whole variety of social events. Students also have the opportunity to attend a range of domestic and international trips. Previous destinations include Ecuador, Belgium and skiing in Italy. The breadth of our subject offer enables students to choose from a wide range of A-level and BTEC courses, which provides flexibility and allows them to select a programme of study that is personal to them. Most importantly, in order for our students to reach their aspirational goals, our curriculum is designed to support a range of pathways, which will allow our students to be fully prepared for university, an apprenticeship, or employment opportunities. We have a course to suit everyone s needs. Our broad enrichment programme continues to grow year-on-year to ensure our students are motivated and engaged, while developing important life skills that will support their future wellbeing.

5 Sixth Form Life The Sixth Form at Cornwallis Academy provides us with a range of dedicated facilities and opportunities that support our studies and overall experience. Years 12 and 13 have exclusive access to a coffee shop, which is a prime spot to either find a supportive ear, or to engage in an interactive debate with fellow students. For those who prefer a quiet working environment, there are allocated study areas. Our learning environments are set to expand with the exciting prospect of a new library due to open within the next year. The academy is rapidly growing and constantly strives to further improve and develop. A large number of improvements come from the students and staff, through the use of our School Council, which provides a platform to discuss issues and ideas that can move the academy forward. The Sixth Form provides post-16 students with opportunities to best support their next step in life. This comes in the form of responsibility and expectations to help students enhance their skills and experience. A variety of roles within the academy are offered, including cashier duties during lunch and break times and volunteering as helpers for one of our many school events, such as Year 6 Open Evening. Sixth Form students also have the responsibility of arranging a number of charity fundraisers and the much-anticipated prom. In addition, Sixth Form students have the opportunity to take on a variety of leadership roles, including Head Boy and Head Girl, as well as House Captains. These roles provide us with the chance to interact with all year groups and ensure their voices are heard. Overall, our Sixth Form is a fantastic place to achieve academic success, develop social skills and prepare for life ahead. We look forward to welcoming you. 6 Future Success We strive for students to leave Year 13 with the confidence, determination and skills to succeed in their future pathways. Through a comprehensive programme of careers education, information and guidance, students form a sound understanding of the options available to them, such as higher education, apprenticeships or employment. This enables them to make informed decisions about the next step towards their career goals. In addition to our extensive programme, our dedicated careers advisor has strong links with universities, apprenticeship schemes and employers, which students can utilise to gain experience, knowledge and placements. There s always someone to speak to if we need support or advice. For me personally, I was grateful to have the support of the Careers and Guidance team, who helped me to apply for my university course. - a Year 13 student

7 How to Enrol If you would like more information about joining The Sixth Form at Cornwallis Academy, please contact our Sixth Form team for an application form. Alternatively, you can attend our annual Open Evening, where you will be able to meet our team of experienced staff and find our more about the potential courses on offer. Information is also available regarding bursary funding and travel options. Students who apply will be invited to a Future Meeting with a member of the Sixth Form team to discuss your future pathways and requirements. All students who enrol for Sixth Form will take part in our induction programme, which takes place before the end of the academic year. I m really pleased I chose to continue my studies at Sixth Form. With the support of the staff, I feel ready to take the next step towards achieving my goals at university. - a Year 13 student
