5 How To Apply For Financial Aid STEP 1 APPLY ONLINE! First, request a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for you and, if applicable, your parents at The PIN(S) will be displayed or ed to you and will serve as your electronic signatures (eliminating the need to print out, sign, and mail a signature page) for FAFSA on the Web, Renewal FAFSA, and corrections to your FAFSA on the Web. After receiving your PIN, log on to fafsa.ed.gov and follow the instructions for completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) using the IRS data retrieval option when prompted. You may request the paper FAFSA by calling Current federal aid recipients should complete the Renewal FAFSA online. In Step Six of the FAFSA, be sure to indicate as Columbia-Greene Community College s Federal School Code. When filing via web, be sure to use your AND your parent s PIN number or print and sign the signature page. STEP 2 When you have completed the FAFSA on the web, the confirmation page will give you a link to the TAP-on-the-web application for New York State Financial Aid. NYS residents, matriculated, attending a NYS school, enrolled full-time in courses required for their major may be eligible. Before completing the TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) application, you will be asked to establish a separate HESC PIN for TAP. This HESC PIN will allow you to complete your application later, access your application information, or make changes, if necessary. After establishing your HESC PIN, you will be able to complete your TAP application on the web. The TAP online form will be pre-filled with some of the information from the FAFSA you completed. Review this data and supply any missing information and submit the form. Follow the instructions provided. If you have submitted a paper FAFSA by mail, an Express TAP Application (ETA) will be mailed to you. Like the online form, it is your responsibility to check the pre-filled data, complete the form, sign it and return it to HESC. Even if you are mailed a paper ETA, you may still choose to complete your TAP application online at any time. Simply go to hesc.org, establish an HESC PIN, and you will be able to access and complete your pre-filled TAP application. Follow the online instructions. Please respond to any requests or instructions sent by HESC. 6 More Financial Aid Information AID FOR PART TIME STUDY (APTS) Matriculated students enrolled in 3-11 credit hours should request APTS applications from the Financial Aid Office in mid-april. Consult the College Catalog for eligibility criteria. Complete the application, make a copy for your records and submit the original application along with a signed copy of your previous NYS Tax Return (IT201) to the C-GCC Office of Financial Aid. FEDERAL DIRECT LOANS (Subsidized & Unsubsidized Direct Loans) NOTE: FILING FOR A DIRECT STAFFORD LOAN REQUIRES COMPLETING FORMS SEPARATE FROM THE FAFSA. Forms for Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans are available upon request. Return the completed loan form to the financial aid office for certification. Before we can certify a loan, we must receive the processed results of your FAFSA and confirmation that your Entrance Counseling and E-MPN have been completed. Please plan accordingly for a 4-6 week processing time on your loans. You will be notified when your loan is approved. Loan funds will be credited to your account in the Bursar s Office. ATTENTION FIRST TIME BORROWERS Federal regulations prohibit us from disbursing your check until 30 days AFTER the semester begins. All borrowers are required to complete a one-time entrance interview and E-MPN prior to the Financial Aid Office certifying your loan. Entrance and exit interviews are done online at ATTENTION VETERANS Are you eligible for Veteran s Education Benefits? If you are not sure, contact your VA Office. SCHOLARSHIPS The Columbia-Greene Community Foundation offers a wide variety of scholarships to students who attend Columbia- Greene Community College. If you re a high school student from Columbia or Greene County graduating with a 93-percent average or higher, a Presidential Scholarship is available provided you attend C-GCC in the fall immediately following your graduation. Certificates of Residence must be obtained and submitted to the Bursar s Office no sooner than 60 days prior to the start of classes, and no later than 30 days after the start of classes. In most counties you can obtain a Certificate of Residence from the County Treasurer s Office. A list of county treasurers offices is available from the Bursar. Remember Your Immunization Records New York State Health Law #2165 requires that all college students born on or after January 1, 1957, and taking six or more credits, provide measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) immunization records. Additionally, all students taking six or more credits, must complete the C-GCC Meningitis Response Form OR provide documentation of having received the meningococcal meningitis immunization within the past ten years. New York State law mandates that if these requirements have not been met by 30 days after the semester begins, students be academically withdrawn from all classes.
