7 Pre-Apprenticeship Program Program that teaches basic technical and job-readiness skills for a designated apprentice occupation in the classroom and on-the-job (paid experience) to prepare participants for Registered Apprenticeship training.

8 Internships Short periods 6 weeks to 9 months and usually provides school credit (exchange of services for experience and used typically in professional careers) paid or unpaid Can be used to explore a career field Actively engaged in work and supervised by mentor

9 Co-ops Co-operative Education (Co-op) is a type of internship program that enables college students to receive career training with pay as they work with professionals in their major fields of study. Some high school students (e.g. Agriculture) participate in coops. Co-ops last longer than a semester and usually up to a year.

10 Apprenticeships In FY 2016, more than 206,000 individuals (21,000 programs) nationwide entered the apprenticeship system. Nationwide, there are over 505,000 apprentices currently obtaining the skills they need to succeed while earning the wages they need to build financial security. 49,000 participants graduated from the apprenticeship system in FY 2016.

13 OSAC Ohio State Apprenticeship Council - Registers Apprenticeship programs (Ohio 2 nd to California) - Ohio has more than 1,100 registered apprenticeship programs in fields as diverse as: aerospace, construction, energy, health care, manufacturing, and utilities. Occupational programs include a min 2,000 hours of structured on-the-job training and 144 hours per year of related technical instruction RTI (class room) over 4-5 years on the average.

14 Apprentice Ohio State Apprenticeship Council Definition Person at least 16 yrs. of age, except where a higher minimum age is fixed by law, who is participating in a registered apprenticeship program to learn a skilled occupation, pursuant to a registered apprenticeship agreement

23 Recruitment Identify Potential Student Apprentices Fair and equitable recruitment process: EEO (defined by OAC ) for the Registered Apprenticeship ensuring fairness in recruitment, selection, and treatment of trainees Outreach/Recruitment Letter Enrollment/Application Established eligibility criteria (e.g. 3.0, 95% attendance, and teacher recommendations) for application, selection, interview, and enrollment process
