7 SOCIAL SCIENCE PRE-ACCESS This full-time Level 2 course will be offered over 10 weeks starting in January or April You can apply to be a residential or nonresidential student (subject to availability). Subjects covered include: Sociology Maths English IT For further information and details on how to apply please contact or shortcourses@ruskin.ac.uk PRE-ACCESS COURSE CRITERIA If you already have a full level 2 qualification or above then you will not be eligible for this course and we would suggest you apply directly for the Access to Higher Education Diploma. A full qualification is a Certificate or Diploma. ACCOMMODATION & FOOD COSTS If your household income is less than 30,944 then you are eligible for a bursary to pay for your food and accommodation (if you choose to be a residential student). If your household income is more than 30,944 then you will need to pay for your food as you go along and for your accommodation (if you choose to be a residential student). Accommodation costs are per week for a standard room and per week for an ensuite room. CHILDCARE COSTS If your household income is less than 30,944 then we may be able to provide support with childcare costs whilst you attend the course. Please ring for details. PRE-ACCESS COURSE COSTS If you are aged years old or are unemployed, receiving benefits and believe that attending the course will help you enter employment then you won t need to pay tuition fees. 8 SOCIAL SCIENCE ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION DIPLOMA This full-time Level 3 course runs September - July. 9 HOW TO APPLY MATHS, ENGLISH, IT AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES Apply by post, , attend an Open Morning or in person. 1. Complete your application form 2. Provide benefit evidence or payment 3. Send your application form and supporting information to us by post, or bring it to the college in person. Documents should be sent to: James Weikert, Ruskin College, Ruskin Hall, Dunstan Road, Old Headington, Oxford, OX3 9BZ We will then reply to confirm if you have been offered a place. You can download the application form from our website or a copy can be sent to you. For a hard or electronic copy contact James Weikert at: E: shortcourses@ruskin.ac.uk T: CRITERIA FOR COURSES If the courses are split into parts, you must attend both parts. For example, you will not be able to join part 2 if you did not attend part 1. You need to have been living in the UK for 3 years or more and be 19 years or older. If you are attending a Maths or English course you must not have already achieved an A*- C grade at GCSE or a Level 2 equivalent. If you are a refugee you will be eligible for funding, subject to the course costs criteria on P10. Asylum seekers are eligible for funding ( subject to course costs criteria on P10) if: 1. They have legally been in the UK for longer than 6 months while their claim is being considered by the Home Office and no decision has been made, or 2. They are in the care of the local authority and are receiving local authority support. STAYING IN COLLEGE You can choose to be resident in College for any of our courses or, if it suits you better, you can choose to be non-residential. If you choose to be residential, you can either stay the night before the course or choose to arrive on the morning of the course and then stay for the duration. You must arrive by 4.30pm the night before or by the start of the course in the morning. If your course finishes at 4.00pm or later and you feel that your journey home is too long to make that evening, then please let us know and you can stay the last night of the course ( subject to availability). 10 COURSE COSTS MATHS, ENGLISH, IT AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES You are entitled to fee remission if you do not have higher education ( Level 4 and above) and are: 1. Receiving Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) including if you are receiving National Insurance Credits only 2. Receiving Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and are in the work- related activity group (WRAG) 3. Receiving Universal Credit because you are unemployed and are required to undertake skills training 4. Unemployed and receiving any other state benefits not listed above and believe that attending the course will help you enter employment You will need to identify which category you fit into and also send photocopied evidence of your benefits. Please note that even if you have produced evidence in the past we still need a copy of up to date proof with your application. If category 4 above applies to you we will need you to explain why you believe attending this course will help you enter employment and how this is relevant to your future job/ career choices. If none of these categories apply to you and you do not have higher education then the tuition costs are 20 per day of the course. If you do have higher education then the tuition costs are 50 per day of the course. All Maths and English courses are free from tuition fees, however you will still need to provide benefits evidence if you are unemployed. ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD COSTS If you receive benefits and do not have to pay tuition fees then you do not have to pay for your accommodation and food. If you do have to pay tuition fees, provided your household income is less than 30,944 then you do not have to pay for your accommodation and food. If you do have to pay tuition fees and your household income is more than 30,944 then you will have to pay for your accommodation and food. Your accommodation will cost 39 per night and your meals will cost for each day of the course. CHILDCARE SUPPORT If your household income is less than 30,944 then we may be able to provide support with childcare costs whilst you attend the course.
