2 Macklin Scholars Application Overview All candidates applying to Montgomery College s Macklin Business Institute (MBI) Scholars Program must submit a credit admissions application to Montgomery College (Part 1) and supporting documents (Part 2). 3 Macklin Scholars Application Information General Information and Instructions Part 1 Apply to Montgomery College - Deadline: January 30, 2015 Admission to Montgomery College is a prerequisite to admission into the Macklin Business Institute (MBI) Scholars Program. Applicants to the Macklin Scholars Program should apply for admission to Montgomery College by January 30, An application for credit admission to Montgomery College is included in this application packet. If you have previously applied for credit admission to Montgomery College, you do not need to reapply for admission to the College; however, you must complete and submit all required documents for consideration into the Macklin Scholars Program. Montgomery County Public High School seniors should check with their high school Career Center for more information about applying to Montgomery College. Application Fees There is a $25 application fee to apply to Montgomery College. For more information about application fees to apply to Montgomery College or application fee waivers, please call There is no application fee to apply to the Macklin Scholars Program. Part 2 Submit Macklin Scholars Supporting Documents Scholars supporting application materials are due by January 30, Late submission of any required supporting materials may adversely affect consideration of your application. We will accept application materials postmarked by January 30, Applications for fall 2015 will only be considered for: 1) students who are currently enrolled in their final year of high school and who will be completing high school graduation requirements by August 2015, and 2) returning MC students with 12 credits or less. Priority for the Macklin Scholars Program and Macklin Scholars scholarships will be given to residents of Montgomery County. The selection committee will evaluate the Montgomery College transcript and records of high school seniors who currently attend or have previously attended Montgomery College. Standardized Test Scores Applicants may either provide the original score report from the College Board (SAT and AP), ACT, ETS (TOEFL), IELTS, or applicants may log in and print their scores from the testing website in front of an Enrollment Services staff member. Failure to submit official test scores by January 30, 2015 may adversely affect consideration for the program. The selection committee will review test scores from the SAT, including the writing section. The committee will consider an applicant s highest scores for each of the three sections of the SAT (Critical Reading, Math, and Writing) from any test administration date. Applicants for the Scholars program should take the SAT or ACT no later than December It is highly recommended that students submit Advanced Placement (AP), TOEFL, and SAT Subject Test scores, if applicable. High School Transcripts Applicants should submit their official high school transcript by January 30, Transcripts should be mailed from the high school to the address provided in the Macklin Scholars application. First Semester Grades Submission of first semester senior year grades is optional, but strongly recommended. For best consideration, first semester grades should be sent to the Macklin Business Institute, no later than March 1.

4 Macklin Scholars Application Information Part 2 (continued) Submit Macklin Scholars Supporting Documents Letters of Recommendation Two letters of recommendation are required, although applicants may submit up to four letters to be reviewed. At least one letter must be an academic recommendation from a high school teacher. Additional recommendations will be accepted from teachers, counselors, employers, Montgomery College faculty, coaches, internship coordinators, etc. Placement Testing Montgomery College assesses new students to determine the appropriate reading, English, and math placement prior to enrollment at the College. In keeping with Montgomery College requirements, any prospective Montgomery College student should take the appropriate college placement test (Accuplacer or ESL-Accuplacer/LOEP) for English, reading, and math if the student falls below the following levels: SAT: Critical Reading score below 550 (take both sentence skills and reading sections) Math score below 550 ACT: English score below 24 (take both sentence skills and reading sections) Math score below 24 TOEFL: Below 575 (paper) or 90 (IBT) IELTS: Below 6.5 If your standardized test scores are below these levels, you will need placement test results in order to complete your Macklin Scholars application and should make arrangements to take the appropriate placement test. Applicants must place on college level in reading and English to be considered for admission into the Scholars program. Note: If a student scored a 3 or higher in the AP English Language exam (must submit official scores), you may not need to take the Montgomery College English Accuplacer placement test as part of the Scholars application process. If you have not taken the placement test already, it is recommended that Scholars applicants take the appropriate placement test prior to February 28, Students must have applied to the College and have a Montgomery College ID number in order to schedule and take the placement test. Bring your recent photo ID: US government-issued photo identification, state-issued driver s license or non-drivers ID, passport, or school ID from the current academic year to take the placement test. An M number is your student identification number, also called your College ID, assigned to you by Montgomery College. Financial Aid and Scholarships Please be aware that the financial aid process is separate and in addition to the admission and scholarship application process. Scholarship assistance is available for students admitted into the Macklin Scholars Program. Scholarships will be awarded for up to 15 credit hours of tuition and fees for fall and spring semester at the in-county rate. Students must remain in good standing according to program requirements to maintain scholarship benefits. We encourage Macklin applicants to complete a FAFSA by March 1, 2015 for maximum financial aid consideration. If your first language is American English or you have attended a US school for 10 or more years, you will take the Accuplacer placement test. Otherwise, you will take the ESL Accuplacer placement test designed for students who speak American English as a second (or subsequent) language.

If unsure, contact a counselor for advice. Students planning to transfer to a four-year degree program in nursing are advised to check with the desired transfer institution to determine the requirements of the institution. Refer to the Montgomery College Catalog for specific information regarding letters of recognition. Students seeking only a letter of recognition are considered nondegree seeking and are not eligible for financial aid.
