3 Your ICM Pathway to Business Your Pathway to Business at the University of Manitoba is determined by your entry level program U of M Bachelor of Commerce (Honours)

4 Your Pathway to Business Name of Program Type of program Program details UTP Stage I Pre-University level This program is designed for students who require additional courses before starting a full university degree equivalent program (UTP Stage II). You will be required to study eight courses over two terms (four courses per term). UTP Stage II University level This program is equivalent to first year of selected University of Manitoba degree programs. You will be required to complete 10 courses (equal to 30 credit hours) with the specified GPA to progress to second year at the University of Manitoba. These programs will normally be completed in three academic terms. If you do not meet the required GPA to transfers to the University of Manitoba, you can continue to study at ICM to improve your GPA. Mixed program UTPI Mixed program UTPII The University of Manitoba English language program Academic English and UTP I (pre-university level) Academic English and UTP II (university level) Academic English The first term of this program requires you to study 15 hours of English per week and a maximum of two academic courses. In the second and third terms you will study the remaining UTP Stage I academic courses. In the second and third terms you will study the remaining UTP Stage II academic courses. If you do not meet ICM s minimum English language entry criterion, you may need to attend the University of Manitoba English language program. ICM staff will discuss such arrangements with you as required.

5 Your Pathway to Business: Admission to the Asper School of Business All students must complete 24 credit hours, including all required courses, by the end of April to be eligible to apply to the Asper School of Business for that year (Track 1). Track 2 is for students who have not completed all the required courses in Track 1 but have completed 24 credit hours of university level work. They may be eligible to apply through Track 2. See Admissions Bulletin for details. All students must then complete a total of 30 credit hours by the end of August to be admitted to the Asper School of Business in September. Students may transfer additional courses. Please note students can only enter the Asper School of Business in September, not in January or May terms. Student may complete additional courses at ICM or apply to the Faculty of Arts at the U of M while waiting for September 2018 admission to the Asper School of Business. Students must have a minimum grade of C in all required courses. Business is a highly competitive faculty. Students should consider a Plan B in case they are not admitted to the faculty.

6 Your Pathway to Business UTP Stage II Business Required for admission to the Asper School of Business (Track 1, minimum grade C): ENGL 1400* (*previously ENGL 1310) 3ch Core - fulfils the U of M writing requirement ECON ch Core ECON ch Core STAT ch Core - fulfils the U of M math requirement MATH ch Core - fulfils the U of M math requirement PSYC Or, choose two of: POLS 1010, POLS 1040, PHIL 1290, MATH 1300, MATH 1700, ANTH ch Core Subtotal required 21ch Students may select 9 credit hours of electives (not including Engineering courses)

7 Course selection for UTP II (Direct) Students In the first term, students in the UTP II Business (Direct) program must take: ILS minimum of 3 UTP II courses (maximum 4) Choose from the following core courses: MATH 1500 Introduction to Calculus STAT 1000 Basic Statistical Analysis 1 ECON 1010 Introduction to Microeconomic Principles ECON 1020 Introduction to Macroeconomic Principles One of: POLS 1010, POLS 1040, MATH 1300, ANTH 1220, or PSYC 1199 (students must enrol in PSYC 1200 the following term to receive credit for PSYC 1199) One elective course approved by program Introduction to these areas will enable you to more wisely choose the area in which you wish to specialize when you progress to your second year of the Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Manitoba.

8 Note UTP I Math Condition: Students who are required to take UTP I math cannot register in UTP II math classes. You must also complete the Math Placement Test before enrolling in courses. To see if you have a UTP I Math Condition, please consult your Letter of Offer. Please speak to a Student Advisor about your future course planning.

9 Course selection for UTP II (Mixed) Students In the first term, students in the UTP II Business (Mixed) program must take: AES 100 Academic English + 2 UTP II courses Choose a maximum of 2 of the following core courses (minimum of 1): MATH 1500 Introduction to Calculus (highly recommended) STAT 1000 Basic Statistical Analysis 1 ECON 1010 Introduction to Microeconomic Principles Note: Students who are required to take UTP I math cannot register in UTP II math classes and may wish to consult a Student Advisor after registering for courses. Note: Students may not register for ARTS 1110 or ENGL 1400* (*Previously ENGL 1310) or PHIL 1290 until a passing grade in AES 100 is obtained. It is recommended that students do not register for PSYC 1199 until their second semester.

10 Additional Business Course Offerings ICM also offers other business courses including: GMGT 1010 Business & Society GMGT 2060 Management and Organizational Theory GMGT 2070 Introduction to Organizational Behaviour INTB 2200 International Management MKT 2210 Introductory Marketing HRIR 2440 Human Resource Management These courses are recommended for students in their final semester at ICM, once all other required courses have been completed.

11 Your Pathway to Agribusiness For pathways to Agribusiness at the University of Manitoba. Students can chose to focus in: International Agribusiness Agribusiness Management Agricultural Economics Students that want to study in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (including programs in general agriculture, agribusiness, food science or agroecology) must each complete the faculty core courses, as well as later requirements for one of the majors. ICM offers up to 36 credit hours from the list of core courses: ABIZ 1000 Introduction to Agribusiness Management ABIZ 1010 Economics of World Food Issues and Policies At least one of ARTS 1110 or ENGL 1400 (to meet U of M Written English requirement) BIOL 1020 Biology 1: Principles and Themes BIOL 1030 Biology 2: Biological Diversity, Function and Interactions ECON 1010 Introduction to Microeconomic Principles ECON 1020 Introduction to Macroeconomic Principles MATH 1300 Vector Geometry and Linear Algebra MATH 1500 Introduction to Calculus STAT 1000 Basic Statistical Analysis 1 PHIL 1290 Critical Thinking

12 Your Pathway to Agribusiness Students must have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.0 upon successful completion of your UTP Stage II program, and satisfy relevant entry requirements to progress to the University of Manitoba Faculty of Agriculture with a minimum of 30 credit hours of advanced standing. Access to selected faculties of the university may require the completion of certain prerequisites and/or a higher GPA. ICM will counsel students individually in this regard.
