1 Academic Offerings at Scottish Universities 2017 This is not an exhaustive listing of subject areas and course opportunities at a particular host institution. We recommend you check each host university s study abroad course page to see what is available to you as it changes year to year. In addition, refer to the UCEAP course catalog to see which courses UC students have taken in the past. Keep in mind that there may be courses that cover a particular subject but are based in a different department (e.g. Women s Studies courses in Sociology). UK second-year courses are usually considered equivalent to the junior year at a US university. This is important as some host universities have restrictions regarding the level of courses available to study abroad students. There are no major restrictions at any of the Scottish Universities other than those highlighted below. If you are interested in taking Honours level courses, you may be required to have at least 2 years of study in a specific subject area. Please check with the partner institution you are applying to for further details. Most law courses at UK host universities are year-long courses only. If you are a semester student and you want to take law courses, you can do so at the University of Manchester, and on a case-by-case basis at the University of Kent. Below is an overview of subject areas available at each host institution. This list may change as host university policies change. The information in the overview table is still subject to the restrictions found later in this guide. Therefore, we strongly recommend you review subject offerings for each university in conjunction with the restrictions for that university. 4 The University of Edinburgh (Fall, Spring, Year-Long) 4th Year Science subjects are usually NOT available to UCEAP Students. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Unique Opportunities Art Majors have the unique opportunity of taking a semester-length studio-based programme with Edinburgh College of Art in Painting, Sculpture, Intermedia, or Photography (only available to art majors). Spring and Year-long students have the opportunity to participate in a one-week practical placement with Edinburgh Veterinary School (available in the Spring term only). Education courses are available, but if there is a classroom placement involved (e.g. as a classroom assistant), you will need a Tier 4 visa. Applications for courses that include placements are reviewed by the University of Glasgow on a case-by-case basis. Unique Opportunities Art Studio courses are available within Glasgow School of Art in Black & White Photography, Life Drawing, or Figurative Sculpture. These courses are open to all majors. This internship is complemented by 2 courses: Parliamentary Studies and Introduction to NGO s.
