1 FSU and Title III Strategic Priorities, Core Values and BOG Alignment Priorities Description Objectives Student Success: Access, Retention, Graduation, and Affordability BOG: Promote and improve access, retention and graduation levels with special attention to traditionally underrepresented segments of NC s population and the availability of distance education and online degree programs FSU s Strategic Priority: Meet the higher-education needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varied aspirations and skill levels Title III Activity :Enhancing Student Success through Outreach, Engagement, and Academic Enrichment and Support; Strengthening Student Academic Success by Establishing Writing Across the Disciplines; Enhancing Student Academic Success by Establishing Reading Across the Curriculum To meet or exceed the retention and graduation 1.1 rates of peer institutions To meet or exceed the enrollment projections as 1.2 established by GA and FSU To meet the financial-aid needs of all students in 1.3 a timely manner To increase participation in education, cultural 1.4 and personal-development activities To increase participation in educational access 1.5 and extended-learning programs An Outstanding Faculty BOG: Attract and retain exceptional faculty /scholars through nationally competitive compensation and benefits, appropriate support and faculty development for instructional and scholarly activities

2 FSU s Strategic Priority: Attract and retain highly qualified and productive faculty members by offering competitive compensation and providing outstanding opportunities for ongoing professional development Title III Activity: Achieving Academic Excellence through Program Enhancement and Strengthening Faculty, Staff and Administrator Development To develop funding strategies that will enable FSU to attract and retain exceptional faculty To increase faculty involvement in research and professional-development activities To expand support for faculty-development activities that promote instructional excellence To continue strengthening the system of faculty rewards and recognition More and Better Teachers; Improved Schools BOG: Expand efforts in teacher preparation to increase the supply of well-qualified and more diverse teachers, especially in high-need licensure areas to serve the rapidly growing needs of North Carolina s schools FSU s Strategic Priority: Expand collaboration with P-12 schools to increase the supply of competent teachers and school leaders and to ensure smooth transition for students from pre-college education to higher education Title III Activity: Establishing and Enhancing Library Resources To foster seamlessness in P-16+ learning 3.1 experiences To expand role exchanges between faculty and 3.2 professional educators in clinical practice To integrate and improve research, professional 3.3 development, and practice across educational segments Research BOG: Promote creative activities and basic and applied research for the discovery, dissemination, and application of new knowledge as a fundamental mission of the University

3 FSU s Strategic Priority: Expand, enrich, and disseminate knowledge through scholarly and creative activities, and basic, applied, and pedagogical research To increase external sponsorship of research, creative activities, and scholarship To develop new and ongoing research projects, creative activities, and scholarship To promote lifelong learning among the citizens of the region through educational and cultural outreach programs and public service activities Quality Academic Programs and Support Services BOG: Ensure the quality of academic programs both on-campus and off-campus through regular review and assessment of degree programs and instruction, and through assessment of the quality of and student access to academic resources and services. FSU s Strategic Priority: Educate students through high-quality and relevant academic programs responsive to workforce and/or personal-development needs. Title III Activity: Achieving Academic Excellence by Enhancing Academic Programs and Strengthening Faculty, Staff, and Administrator Development; Establishing and Enhancing Library Resources To offer academic programs that address the needs of students entering the workforce, entrepreneurship, or pursuing further study and development To engage in ongoing assessment of programs and services for continuous improvement. To enhance student-learning outcomes as measured against specified standards To provide the resources necessary to create an academic environment that supports educational excellence To ensure the quality of academic programs as attested by regional and specialized accreditation bodies Regional and Statewide Economic Development BOG: Respond to and monitor the economic needs and directions of the state, paying

FSU Strategic Priority: Increase the effectiveness and efficiency of university operations through technology and improved processes Title III Activity: Enhancing and Strengthening Campus Information Services 9.1 To improve the ability of decision makers to collect, process, and analyze data 9.2 To increase the use of technology in teaching and learning 9.3 To improve administrative processes Internationalization BOG: Support and expand student and faculty participation and exchange in international study by strategically expanding agreements that provide opportunities for UNC students and faculty, including underrepresented groups, to study abroad, and for international students to study on UNC campuses FSU s Strategic Priority: Provide a conducive environment for students to acquire the capacity, competencies, and perspectives necessary to be engaged in a changing, challenging, and interdependent global workplace and society Tile III Activity: Strengthening Academic Support through Internationalization of Education; Enhancing and Strengthening the Foreign Language Lab 10.1 To infuse international perspectives throughout

FSU s Strategic Priority: Collaborate with community colleges to expand educational opportunities for and increase academic achievement by all North Carolina citizens, including low-income and underrepresented populations To develop collaborative and effective strategies for informing community-college students of their options for further higher education after completing associates degrees To promote the seamless transfer of students from communities colleges to FSU To increase the baccalaureate degree completion rates of FSU students who previously earned an associate s degree from North Carolina community colleges Private Funding BOG: Expand private fundraising to supplement the public sources of revenue for the University FSU s Strategic Priority: To implement a comprehensive plan to secure increased funding from a variety of non-public sources to support the university s mission.
