Age restriction If you are newly unemployed, unemployed for 6 months or more, or recently made redundant then ask about our FREE training courses in Business & IT, Care, Construction, Hair & Beauty, Hospitality & Catering and Retail. Bolton College, in partnership with the University of Bolton, is offering a limited number of scholarships in specific course areas worth 1250 to students who have completed a level 3 qualification at Bolton College and are progressing to study a degree at the University of Bolton. Progressing onto Higher Education (see next page): Our highly competitive HE course fees are way below the Government s maximum fee limit Call in for impartial advice on how to access affordable loans, grants and scholarships to help fund your HE studies Student loans are available at low interest rates and are only have to be repaid when you work and earn over 21,000 per annum No up-front course payments are required Living Cost Grants of up to 3,250 are available (depending on household income) See page 30 for further information on bursaries and allowances.
3 What About Costs? Paying For Your Course - Once you have completed an enrolment form you will be asked to pay any fees that apply. You can pay by cash, cheque or credit/debit card. If your employer is paying your fees by invoice, you must bring proof of this on the employer s letterhead or a purchase order showing the complete address of where the invoice should be sent. If you are an Apprentice with another Training Provider, you should bring your National Insurance number and a letter confirming your Apprenticeship, printed on their letter-headed paper. Please note: Learners on a Learner Responsive (LR) course must bring their qualification certificates with them to enrolment. Learners will not be able to enrol without this information. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school or exam board (e.g. OCR: ; Edexcel: com, or AQA: FEES: College course fees are charged on an annual basis and are payable before the start of the course. A two-year course will therefore incur two annual payments. Instalments You can pay by instalments for courses that have fees of over 100 and are not FULLCOST ( ) courses. The total cost of your course will be split into 6 equal payments; the first of which you will pay at enrolment. The next 5 payments will need to be made on the 1st of the next 5 consecutive months. If you enrol before September, your second payment will not be due until 1st October. Supporting Your Learning Our Student Support Team offers students a comprehensive range of services to help you achieve your full potential, whatever challenges you may face. Services include: supportive tutorials; help with planning and organising your work; specialist assessment of your needs; technical equipment support; communicator support; support with key skills or English Language, and advice on the best way to access additional help. For more information contact the Student Support team on Refunds If a course is cancelled, or if there is an administration error made by the college resulting in an overcharge to the student, a full refund/overcharge element will be paid to the student. No other circumstances will result in a refund. Students with exceptional circumstances may appeal to the Vice Principal (Finance and Resources) who will consider individual cases for a refund payment or credit against another Bolton College course. Tuition Fee Reductions - Learners aged The majority of courses for year olds are FREE. Learners must be under 19 on 31 August Community Learning Courses If you choose to join a Community Learning (CL) course, you may not need to pay tuition fees if you fall into one of the following groups. However, you may still need to pay for any other costs associated with the course. Please bring the documents listed below to enrolment as proof of your circumstances. Job Seekers Allowance (studying under 16 hours) - Letter from the Job Centre. Income Support - Most recent letter from the Benefits Agency. Housing/Council Tax Benefit (excluding single person s reduction) - Letter from your local authority. Working Tax Credit (household income under 15,579) - Full letter with your payment award. Asylum Seekers * - Proof of Application Registration Card and post office receipt issu ed for the same month that the learner enrols on the course. Course costs will not be reduced if you do not provide the correct evidence at enrolment. The following groups of people may be entitled to a 50% discount on tuition fees: Widow(er) in receipt of Pension - Letter detailing pension or bereavement allowance you receive. Over 60s who are not working Bus Pass, Birth Certificate, Passport or Driving Licence. * If you have been resident in the UK for less than 3 years, you will need to bring your Home Office documents with you to enrolment, confirming that you have indefinite leave to remain. If you are unable to provide the documents, you will be asked to pay your course costs at enrolment. Learner Responsive Courses If you choose to join a Learner Responsive (LR) course, you may not need to pay tuition fees if you fall into one of the following groups, or are taking your first Full Level 2 (aged only) or first Full Level 3 (aged only) course (see section below). However, you may still need to pay for any other costs associated with the course. Please bring the documents listed below to enrolment as proof of your circumstances. Job Seekers Allowance (studying under 16 hours) - Letter from the Job Centre and your National Insurance number. Employment & Support Allowance (Work Ready Category) Letter from the Job Centre stating the Category you are in and your National Insurance number. Help with Level 1, 2 (including GCSEs) 3 and 4 Course Fees FREE tuition fee entitlement (Learner Responsive courses only) The Government is keen to equip Britain s workforce with the skills needed to stay economically competitive in the 21st century so adults may be entitled to *free tuition for a number of qualifications (for further details see below). Entry and Level 1 Qualifications - Learners on Learner Responsive (LR) funded courses (excluding ESOL and Skills for Life) who are aged may** be eligible for free tuition if they do NOT already have a Full Level 2 (or higher, in any subject). **Restrictions apply Information, Advice & Guidance Talk to our friendly team of Student Services advisers for information on all aspects of studying including course-progression, careers guidance or financial and childcare advice. Our advisers will be available at the Deane Road Student Services Centre during lunchtimes (12 noon-1pm) or call the team on to make an appointment. Level 2 Qualifications - Learners aged 19 to 23 (on 31st August 2012) who have not previously gained a Full Level 2 qualification (or higher) in any subject are eligible to free tuition*. GCSE Maths and English - Adult learners are eligible for free tuition to take GCSE English and Maths qualifications if they have not already attained grade A* - C in these subjects regardless of what other prior qualifications they hold. Level 3 Qualifications - Learners aged 19 to 24 (on 31st August 2012) who have not previously gained a Full Level 3 qualification (or higher) in any subject are eligible to free tuition*. Level 4 Jumper Qualifications year old Level 4 jumpers studying their first full Level 4 or above without having attained a first full Level 3 qualification are eligible to free tuition*. *Learners claiming free tuition fees under any of these schemes may need to pay any additional fees and will be liable to the full course fees should their course attendance fall below 80%. All learners must be eligible for funding under the SFA residency guidelines. Equivalency Information Full Level 2 is equivalent to 5 GCSEs (at Grade A*-C); 5 CSEs at Grade 1; 5 O Levels (at Grade Other unemployed learners on one or more of the following benefits who are undertaking skills training to help them find employment: Income Support (Most recent letter from the Benefits Agency). Housing/Council Tax Benefit - excluding single person s reduction. (Letter from your Local Authority) Working Tax Credit (Full letter with your payment award). A household income restriction applies. Pension Credit (Letter from Benefits Agency) Employment & Support Allowance - other than for the Work Ready Category. (Letter from Job Centre stating category) Unemployed learners should not undertake courses of 16 or more hours per week if they wish to continue to claim their benefits. The EMA and ALG schemes are now closed to students. Students aged should make enquiries about the College Bursaries which are available to some vulnerable groups of learners and also to those students living in families with an income level of 21,000 or less. For Students aged 19+ the College seeks to help learners who are on a low* income, or income based benefits, with some of the costs associated with studying, e.g. childcare, equipment/kits and travel - through our Discretionary Learner Support Fund.
