3 ADMISSION POLICY OF THE COLLEGE As an admission policy, the College does NOT discriminate on the basis of Gender, Tribe, Race or Religion. However, admission of candidates shall be in the following ratio, provided that the admission is made wholly by the College: 1. Indigenes of Kaduna State 80% 2. Non-indigenes 20% Out of the 80%, meant for the State indigenes, it is shared as follows a. Equity of 23 LGAs % b. Catchment LGAs % c. Educationally Disadvantaged % In the distribution of the 10% meant for non-indigenes, priority shall be given to States neighbouring Kaduna State The College, shall, where possible, honour special request for admission from Kaduna State Ministries of Health, Local Governments, Women Affairs and other Parastatals, PROVIDED that the candidates have fulfilled all the requirements for the admission The College MAY, where possible, honour special request for admission from other States, Local Governments, Private Organizations and Individuals, PROVIDED that the candidates have fulfilled all the requirements for the admission 3 P a g e

7 DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY HEALTH Higher National Diploma in Community Health (HNDCH) 30 Students Accredited by: National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) 2 Years The Course is designed for training of Community Health Personnel at intermediate level. Products can be employed by Primary Health Care Providers, Security Agencies and Non- Governmental Organizations Diplomates can be admitted into any of the Nigerian Universities to pursue higher qualifications. Possession of an NBTE accredited National Diploma in Community Health or Environmental Health Technology or General Nursing from a recognized Institution at not less than Lower Credit level. In addition Candidates must have the O level requirements for admission into ND Community Health as follows 1. English Language 2. Mathematics 3. Biology 4. One subject chosen from a. Chemistry b. 9 Pre-HND in Community Health (Pre-HNDCH) Carrying Capacity 15 Students Accredited by: Academic Board 9 P a g e 1 Year The Course is meant to abridge the link between the CHPRBN s CHEW certificate and give it a National Academic outlook. The students are therefore prepared to obtain a National Diploma in Community Health, which will enable them proceed to HND Class after obtaining the minimum requirements IMPORTANT!! Where the applicant is not a graduate of Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology, the applicant is REQUIRED to produce a TRANSCRIPT from his/her former Institution. Possession of either i. CHPRBN s Diploma (Community Health) ii. or Community Health Extension Workers Certificate iii. Valid Practice license In addition to the above candidates must possess Five (5) O Level Credits at not more than two sittings. These must include: 1. English Language 2. Mathematics 3. Biology 4. Products can be employed by Primary Health Care Providers, Security Agencies and Non- Governmental Organizations Diplomates can be admitted into any of the Schools/Colleges of Health Technology to pursue higher qualifications. Possession of 5 passes at O Levels WAEC or NECO which must include 1. English language, 2. Mathematics 3. Biology 4. One from a. Chemistry, b. Physics, c. Geography d. Economics, e. Agricultural Science 5. Any other subject at not more than two sittings.

11 Diploma Community Health (DCH) Carrying Capacity Accredited by: Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) Nature of Training: Full Time 15 Students Possession of 1. JCHEW or Certificate in Community Health awarded by Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria. 2. Valid Practice License plus 11 P a g e 2 Years Pambegua The Course is designed to retraining Junior Community Health Personnel To enable them get the CHPRBN s Diploma, Community Health Products can be employed by Primary Health Care Providers, Security Agencies and Non- Governmental Organizations Diplomates can be admitted into any of the CHPRBN Institutions to pursue higher qualifications. Five (5) O Level Credits at not more than two sittings. These must include: 1. English Language 2. Mathematics 3. Biology 4. One subject chosen from a. Chemistry b. Food &Nutrition/Home Economics c. Holders of Diploma in Physiotherapy are useful in the following Organizations. 1. Hospitals 2. Specialized Hospitals 3. Emergency Management Agency 4. General and Rural Hospitals 5. Rehabilitation Centers and Homes 6. Non-Governmental Organizations Diplomates are admissible to university to read BSc. 17 Dental Health Technicians Certificate Carrying Capacity 50 Students Accredited by: DTRBN 3 Years Possession of Four (4) O Level credits and two passes in WAEC or NECO at not more than 2 sittings as follows: 1. English language 2. Mathematics 3. Biology 4. Any other Science subject The aim of the Course is to train Middle cadre Personnel in Oral Health and Dental Nursing. Possession of Dental Surgery Assistants Certificate (DSA) with at least one (1) year post-qualification work experience in addition to (i) above. 18 Dental Surgery Assistants Certificate (DSA) Carrying Capacity 50 Students Accredited by: DTRBN 2 Years The aim of the Course is to train Junior cadre Personnel in Oral Health and assist Dental Surgeons in their works. Graduates shall, however need to retrain as either Dental Therapists or Dental Technicians The graduates are employable in Federal Medical Centres, Hospitals, Clinics Private Companies, Security outfits, and Non- Governmental Organizations Possession of Three [3] O level credits in WAEC/NECO at not more than 2 sittings in the following: 1. 19 Higher National Diploma in Dental Technology Carrying Capacity 30 Students Accredited by: NBTE and Dental Technology Registration Board of Nigeria Possession of National Diploma Dental Technology from an NBTE accredited Institution at not less than Lower Credit level plus Five O Level Credits in either WAEC or NECO in not more than two sittings in the following. 2 Years The Course is designed to train middle cadre Human resources in Dental Technology and maxilo-facial Techniques. Job Opportunities A certified and licensed EHO apart from establishing his own private practice in any of the subspecialties of environmental health, also has great potential and opportunity to be employed to work in the:- public sector with Ministries of Health, Environment, Agriculture, Water Resources, Arm Forces (Army, Navy & Air force), Prison Service, Customs Service, Immigration, Police Force, Environmental protection agencies, waste management Authority etc. Possession of National Diploma in Environmental Health Technology from a recognized institution at not less than Lower Credit, with a minimum of one year Post-qualification work experience. Products are useful in Public/Private Hospitals, Homes, Maternity Homes, Security services, Military, Non-Governmental Organizations etc. Where Health talks and guidance are required. Possession of Five O Level Credit in WAEC/WAEC NECO/NECO at not more than two sittings 1. English Language 2. 30 30 P a g e DEPARTMENT OF NUTRITION AND DIETETICS National Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics [NDND] Carrying Capacity 60 Students Accredited by: NBTE 2 Years The Course is designed to train Middle Cadre Human resources in basic nutritional challenges of the Society. These include the importance of food and feeding in healthy living.
