2 2 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES Assistant Vice Provost for Student Affairs University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Minneapolis, MN The University of Minnesota is a public, land-grant institution that serves approximately 68,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students across 5 system campuses. The Twin Cities campus serves as the flagship institution within the system and serves approximately 55,000 students. Position Responsibilities: Provide leadership of the Student Engagement area with responsibility for fraternity & sorority life, diversity and multicultural programs, student engagement & co-curricular learning initiatives, off-campus living, and commuter student programs and services. Responsible for an operating and personnel budget of approximately $1M. Function as a key member of the student affairs executive leadership team and serve as support to the Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. Supervise the directors of Fraternity & Sorority Life, Multicultural Student Engagement, and Off-Campus Living. Provide leadership to the Student Life area within the Office for Student Affairs, working closely with all student life units (student unions and activities, curricular & co-curricular leadership programs, and career and internship services, in addition to the units named above) to enhance the co-curricular experience for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Coordinate student affairs assessment efforts. Serve as a senior-level crisis responder for student emergencies including, but not limited to, student deaths, missing students, and fire emergencies. Lead diversity and inclusion efforts on behalf of the Office for Student Affairs. Co-chair the Student Affairs Strategic Planning & Assessment work group which focuses on development of the student affairs strategic plan. Select Accomplishments: Re-organized the Student Engagement area within the Office for Student Affairs to enhance the services, resources, and programs designed to contribute to student success and a welcoming and inclusive environment. This resulted in newly created positions (listed below), reallocation of fiscal resources, and a more sound assessment process to inform future decision making. Created the Coordinator for Fraternity & Sorority Life position which directly advises the Interfraternity Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Established the Multicultural Student Engagement area, including the creation of the Program Director for Multicultural Student Engagement and the Multicultural Student Engagement Program Specialist positions, in an effort to contribute directly to the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students and a welcoming & inclusive campus environment.

3 3 Created & established the U-First initiative, a university-wide initiative charged with coordinating the curricular & co-curricular support services for first-generation students. Serve as inaugural co-chair, along with a faculty member, of the U First advisory group, a cross-functional team of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Established, in partnership with the Office of Admissions, the Minnesota Multicultural Recruitment Society, a group of students dedicated to assisting with the recruitment of a diverse student population. A strong foundation in educating approximately 3,700 students in the liberal arts serves as the cornerstone of this institution. The Division of Student Affairs is comprised of 12 offices and has an annual operating budget of approximately $1 million dollars. General Duties: Provided vision and direction for multicultural student programming. Developed, executed, and assessed a strategic plan which includes a mission, goals, objectives, and learning outcomes for multicultural programs. Strengthened the retention and success of Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, Native American, Latino/a, and multiracial students by fostering a sense of community through intellectual, social, and cultural exchange. Supervised and evaluated a full-time assistant director, responsible for oversight and implementation of all office programmatic initiatives, and administrative support staff. Provided indirect supervision of all departmental student employees. Managed the annual operating budget of approximately $50K for the Intercultural Center and Office of Multicultural Student Programs, including expenditure review involving multiple sources of funds.

4 4 Select Accomplishments: Established the AVID for Higher Education program, a comprehensive student success initiative that promotes high-engagement in curricular & co-curricular activities. Served as the inaugural university liaison to the national AVID for Higher Education office. Created the assistant director for multicultural programs position which leads efforts around multicultural programming, student organization advising, and program development. Restructured the Connections peer-mentoring which assisted first-year students from diverse backgrounds with their transition into the university. Students who participated in Connections were retained at 94% (a higher retention rate than the university s overall retention rate of underrepresented students). Goucher was the first college in the nation to require its students to have a study abroad experience while offering students financial support to make it possible (2007). The Division of Student Life includes the following units: Athletics, Career Development, Residence Life, Dean of Students Office, Multicultural Affairs, Religious and Spiritual Life, Public Safety, Student Engagement, Educational Opportunity Program, and Student Health and Counseling. General Duties: Provided vision and direction for social programming for all undergraduate students. Supervised and evaluated a full-time program coordinator, responsible for management of the campus coffeehouse & development of late-night and weekend programming. Provided direct supervision of student employees.

5 5 Managed a $200K annual operating budget for the social programming, Pearlstone Student Center, campus coffeehouse, commuter student life, and student programming board. Advised student programming board. Responsible for operational oversight of the Pearlstone Student Center. Participated in the development of the student engagement strategic plan. Assisted the Associate Dean for Student Engagement in providing consultation to clubs planning events and in reviewing club contracts with speakers and performers. Responsible for commuter student programming and served as liaison between all commuter students and the college. Assisted Associate Dean for Student Engagement in planning, execution, and assessment of Family Weekend. Coordinated the Fall check-in process for new and returning students. Advised all performing arts and media clubs and organizations. Select Accomplishments: Created the Late Nights at the Gage programming series, a late-night and weekend set of social programs designed to enhance student engagement in campus activities. Enhanced commuter student engagement in campus activities through the development and execution of commuter focused programming and initiatives. Revamped the contract process and protocol for both the Office for Student Engagement as well as students & student organizations planning events using a contract.
