2 Business Intelligence and Process Management Berlin School of Economics and Law The Master programme Business Intelligence and Process Management at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) is designed for graduates from Germany and abroad who have completed a career-oriented first degree (usually a Bachelor) and would like to study for a post graduate degree with an international group of students. The programme prepares students for positions as Business-IT specialists, consultants, project managers, and executive managers in companies active in the international arena. Students will be trained to use IT to analyse and enhance business-oriented decisions, processes, and organisations. The Business Intelligence stream stresses the growing importance of data for corporate decision making (this trend of larger and more complex data sets is called Big Data). The Business Process Management stream focuses on the organizational impacts of IT. All courses are set up as interactive seminars and taught in English. Main teaching methods are case studies, projectoriented learning, and team-based learning. Working in small groups allows an intensive dialogue between students and lecturers, which trains communications skills and cooperation in an international environment. With around students the Berlin School of Economics and Law is a large advanced educational establishment for applied science located in Germany s capital. It is characterized by a marked practical orientation, by intensive and varied research, high quality standards and a strongly international orientation. The subjects offered embrace private and public Economic Management, Administrative Management, Law Management and Security Management, as well as Engineering Science in more than 50 courses of study. Almost all courses of study have been adapted to Bachelor and Master certificates, have been checked for quality and bear the seal of the accrediting body. At the Berlin School of Economics and Law students find an intercultural and practice-oriented learning environment. Small study groups ensure a quick response to individual learning requirements. The seminar and lecture rooms are equipped with modern media. Extensive libraries and digital workplaces are available. An international alignment enriches campus life. 3 Key facts Content Type of study programme Full-time Duration of study programme 3 semesters (for applicants with 210 credit points) 4 semesters (for applicants with 180 credit points) Semester begins 1 October (winter semester) Programme structure The Master programme is basically divided into three parts: 1st semester: Foundation, Specialization 2nd semester: Application, Specialization 3rd semester: Thesis (provided students do not have to take an additional internship semester). Language of instruction English Degree The Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) awards successful students on this programme the internationally recognised Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree. The Master degree is worth a total of 90 credit points. Fee There are no tuition fees on this programme. Students are required to pay a semester fee. That includes a contribution to the Studentenwerk Berlin, the student representative body as well as the enrolment and administration fee and a semester season ticket for the local public transport systems. Details: First semester The first semester (30 credit points) builds up on previous Bachelor studies, creates a common knowledge base, and starts developing areas of expertise and specialization. First semester modules comprise foundational courses in Business Analytics (Data Science), Data Warehousing, Business-IT-Strategy, and Business Process Management. Second semester The second semester s modules (30 credit points ) take the first semester s topics further. Students apply the learned methods in projects (in the Analytics Lab and the Process Lab) and gain practical skills in analysis, conceptualization, and implementation, which are crucial for their later career. In addition to projects, the second semester provides specialized modules in Enterprise Architectures for Big Data and IT Security & Privacy. Additionally students have the opportunity to choose their own focus by selecting a course from the Master Pool Electives. Third semester Unless students spend their third semester on an internship, this semester is scheduled for completing the degree by submitting the thesis and defending it in an oral exam. The Master thesis will be accompanied by a research methodology seminar. 4 Admission Application General requirements A first degree in a subject in the career field (usually a Bachelor), in Business Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, Administrative Informatics, or equivalent Evidence of having successfully completed undergraduate courses in Business Administration, Quantitative Methods and/or Databases, (Applied) Informatics Excellent English skills equivalent at least to B2 on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) CV and letter of motivation in English Application period 15 April 15 June for applicants with a degree from a German university 15 April 30 May for applicants with a degree from a university abroad Application Details are available online at Application procedure for graduates from universities outside Germany Graduates from a university or college abroad are required to submit their applications directly to the»uni-assist«external processing service for international students.
