2 SPECIALIZED ADMISSIONS ORIENTATION OBJECTIVE Information will be provided regarding the specialized admissions procedure and ranking process. Student seeking admissions into a health program must see designated program counselor.

5 SPECIALIZED ADMISSIONS HEALTH CAREERS Most of these programs have specialized admissions requirements in addition to the College s standard admissions process. Some of these requirements are mandated by state or federal legislation. Others are based on the standards set by accrediting agencies. If you have a disability that requires special assistance, your counselor will work with our faculty and the Center for Students with Disabilities to meet your needs.
6 SPECIALIZED ADMISSIONS APPLICATION PROCESS The admission criteria will be applied in accordance with the effective catalog at the time of ranking. The admission process requires the student to satisfy all general requirements and pre-program specific requirements to include any mandatory course work.
7 SPECIALIZED ADMISSIONS APPLICATION PROCESS A student s primary major will be declared as an Non-specialized major until student officially accepts their seat. Students may declare up to two secondary Health Career choices.

9 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR RANKING CONSIDERATION Applicants must: Be fully accepted by EPCC as an academic credit student. Complete a mandatory Health Careers Orientation session in person or online. Pay $10 one time, non refundable fee at Cashier s window and submit an application to: Valle Verde Campus, Enrollment Services Center Admissions and Registration Office Meet minimum program EPCC Cumulative GPA (Varies by Program)
10 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR RANKING CONSIDERATION Request official, final transcripts, from all institutions to include high school or GED scores, and all prior colleges/universities. It is the student s responsibility to assure that official transcripts from high school or GED scores, and all prior colleges/universities are received and logged into banner.(transliteration of all foreign coursework required). Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Note: Transcripts issued by a high school that is not in English must have an evaluation provided by an agency of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). A list of NACES agencies can be found at
11 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR RANKING CONSIDERATION Submit all official transcripts directly to: Valle Verde Enrollment Services Center, Admissions Registration Office, P.O. Box 20500, El Paso, Texas Demonstrate minimum competency levels on the assessment test. A minimum grade of C or higher is required in ALL academic and specialized courses in degree plan.
12 HEALTH CAREERS ORIENTATION Need to complete all Mandatory courses Some courses have pre-requisites Example: Biol 1306 & 1106 is a pre- requisite for Biol 2401 and other Biology courses. Work closely with your designated Health Career Counselor as you progress through qualification for ranking.
13 WHAT IS RANKING DATE? The day the banner system locks in all students who have completed everything. As you test and complete ranking courses points are generated through the banner system. Each program has an specific ranking date. Important to make sure with your designated counselor that you are listed as a COMPLETE APPLICANT for ranking in your desire program(s).
14 MENINGITIS Effective Spring 2014, new and returning EPCC students under the age of 22 must provide proof of an initial meningitis immunization or booster to Admissions and Registration Department at any campus. Meningitis vaccination must be administered at least 10 days before the start of the semester and must have been administered within the last five years.
15 MOST RECENT Applicants need to satisfy all Specialized Admissions requirements, including: General Admissions requirements Pre-Program Specific requirements Mandatory course work Ranking is based on most recent TSI test scores and the most recent GPA of program specific ranking courses. Ranking is based on most recent ATI TEAS composite scores and most recent GPA of program specific ranking courses.
16 COURSE REPETITION FINANCIAL AID AND VA BENEFITS Effective Fall 2011, based on new federal regulations students are not allowed to repeat previously passed courses more than once. Students should meet with a counselor to determine how a repeat course (s) may impact his/her academic, prerequisite, specialized admissions or transferability of courses. It is the student s responsibility to check with the Office of Student Financial Aid Services to inquire how a repeat course (s) may impact their financial aid or veteran s assistance.
17 ASSESSMENT TESTING Test competency levels will be determined by each program. Subject areas tested are: Reading Math Writing Science (Nursing Students Only *) For RN and VN ranking purposes ATI TEAS composite scores are required for qualification and ranking. ONLY THE MOST CURRENT TEST SCORES WILL BE USE FOR RANKING, NOT THE HIGHEST!!!
18 ASSESSMENT TESTING All Specialized Admissions require testing in subject areas. Only the most recent test scores will be used for qualification and ranking. TSI test scores are valid for 5 years. ATI TEAS composite test scores are valid for 2 years. All sections of the test must meet at least the minimum program requirement.
19 TSI TEST MAXIMUM SCORES Writing Multiple Choice 390 Essay 8 Reading 390 Math 390 Minimum test scores vary by program. Nursing students are required to take the ATI TEAS exam. Please see your designated counselor for specifics.
20 PROGRAM-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Pre-Program Specific documents should be submitted to the designated contact person identified on the Program Information Guide PRIOR to ranking. Post-Specialized Admissions requirements are submitted AFTER accepting a seat in the program. Please check with your designated program counselor for specifics and deadlines.
21 CPR CERTIFICATION American Heart Association-(Healthcare Provider) College Course 16weeks:KINE 1306 First Aid and Safety Continuing Education-Basic Life Support-5 hour course
22 FIRST AID CERTIFICATION American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons National Safety Council Continuing Education Course- 16 weeks: KINE 1306-First Aid and Safety Continuing Education course 8 hour course, call for more information.
23 IMMUNIZATIONS AND TITERS Hepatitis B vaccination series of 3 and positive TITER (can take 4-6 months to complete) 2 - Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccinations (MMR) and positive TITER. 2 - Varicella Vaccinations and positive TITER. Tetanus/Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) or as directed by DSHS (expires after 10 years) Influenza may be required (renew every year) Meningitis may be required (good for 5 years)
24 PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE The Joint Commission which accredits healthcare facilities across the country, enforced background screening in September Students in a healthcare field must now complete the same background check as hospital employees. Your Criminal Background (s) and results of your Substance Abuse Screening will be sent directly to the Dean/Director of your program. There are two levels of Criminal Background Clearance Level 1 which includes all students Level 2 is specifically for students who are already licensed or certified in any area Website: NOTE: These requirements are Pre/Post Programs Specific Requirements and will vary by program. Refer to Program Guide. Student must see Designated Program Counselor to review pre/post requirements.
25 PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Professional Practice Insurance fee $8.50-$35.00 included in tuition and fee. EMS program is higher fee. Specialized equipment, uniform and lab supplies required. Criminal background clearance (If you have questions or concerned about your background check with your program coordinator)- Substance Abuse Screening Note: These requirements are Pre and Post Program Specific Requirements and will vary by program. Refer to Program Information Guide and speak with your designated program counselor.
26 MANDATORY COURSES Mandatory courses (if required) must be successfully completed prior to ranking. Mandatory courses require a C or higher in order to qualify for ranking and entry into your program. Applicants who do not successfully complete mandatory course work will not be eligible for ranking.
27 RANKING COURSES Ranking Courses: are courses within the degree plan that establish the ranking score. require a grade of C or higher cannot be substituted Note: Ranking courses will vary by program.
28 RANKING CRITERIA Once the specialized admissions process has been satisfied, the student will be ranked based on their individual performance on the required assessment test and GPA of program specific ranking courses.
29 RANKING PROCESS Health Careers Programs Nursing/Vocational Nurse Programs 60% of points come from GPA of Ranking Courses or TSI Assessment Scores which equals 720 maximum points. and 40% of points come from Ranking courses or TSI Assessment scores which equals 480 maximum equals 480 maximum points. or 100% TSI Assessment = 1200 No ranking courses 60% of points come from GPA of Ranking Courses which equals 720 maximum points. and ATI TEAS composite scores 40% of points come from the Assessment scores which equals 480 maximum points. 100 % = 1200 points is the maximum possible ranking score Varies by program
30 RANKING PROCESS CALCULATING THE COURSE RANKING SCORE Example for Respiratory Care Technology program (Ranking G.P.A )x (Successfully Ranking Credit Hours Completed) x (Factor) = Course Ranking Score Example: (3.09) x (11) x (16.36) =
31 RANKING PROCESS CALCULATING THE TEST RANKING SCORE Required Test Ranking Score: 40% = 480 points or 60% = 720 Ranking score is based on the most recent test scores. Each test will have a different factor Formula for calculating the test factor = (maximum total points x percentage)/maximum raw score. All ranking calculations vary by program and subject to change!
32 RANKING CRITERIA Once applicants satisfy all Specialized Admissions requirements, including General Admissions requirements Program Specific requirements Mandatory course work Minimum passing scores in the required assessment Applicant will be placed in a qualified pool to be automatically ranked based upon individual performance in the required assessment scores and GPA of the program specifics Ranking Course(s).
33 APPLICANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR: Verifying official, final transcripts, from all institutions to include high school or GED scores and all prior colleges/universities. Maintaining compliance regarding changing requirements. Verifying official GED or High School transcripts are received and logged into Banner.
34 STUDENT SUCCESS AND RESPONSIBILITY Applicants should: plan ahead! adhering to deadlines and/or ranking dates. confirm that all documentation is received and logged into Banner. submit all required documentation prior to ranking date.
35 APPLICANTS BE AWARE THAT: Normal processing may take a few days or months depending on document and individual circumstances. If documents are received but not processed a student will be coded as ineligible for ranking. Clearance for Pre-Program requirements may take up to a week for processing and entering into Banner system.
36 PRE-PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS It is highly recommended that you complete all requirements at least two weeks prior to ranking. Hepatitis series may take up to 4 to 6 months to complete. CPR and First Aid classes fill up rapidly and have limited seating. Contact designated program counselor for preprogram requirements dates.
37 NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE
38 NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE Qualified ranked students who are the top candidates will be offered a seat. Acknowledgment Letter of Acceptance will be sent via regular mail - officially from the Specialized Admissions office. You will be given 10 days to respond to the letter. Students must satisfy all Post-Program Specific requirements to gain a full acceptance and clearance for the clinical courses.
39 NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE Students offered seats into their desired health program must follow and satisfy all instructions as indicated in the notification letter from the Specialized Admission Office. Students who were not selected will remain in the qualified pool as long as they continue to satisfy all current specialized and program specific admissions requirements.
40 NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE Students accepting seats will have their student file changed to reflect the new major and effective term. The student will then be removed from all existing health occupations pools.
41 NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE Students declining or failing to respond to an offer of a seat into a Health Occupations program will be removed from the qualified pool and as an applicant for that program(s).
42 NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE A student who has declined acceptance into a specialized program and desires to be considered for other health majors, will be required to resubmit a new Health Careers Specialized Admissions Application without an additional application fee.
43 POST RANKING INFORMATION Post Program Specific requirements will vary by program. Student must see designated program counselor to review Post Program Specific requirements and/or refer to Program Information Guide. Students accepting seats will have their student file changed to reflect the new major and effective term. The student will then be removed from all existing health career pools.
44 WHAT IF I DON T GET ACCEPTED? Discuss with your designated counselor on how to improve your points for next ranking. Consider possibly repeating the ranking courses and/or test assessment. Talk to a financial aid representative on repeating courses. Keep in mind that the most recent grades in the ranking courses are used for ranking.
