Director, GHRDC Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal, Karnataka Manipal established its college for Hotel Management Studies in October 1986 as a unit of Dr. TMA Pai Foundation. In August 1987, the foundation joined hands with Welcomgroup, the hotel division of ITC Ltd, and a progressive hotel chain having linkage to Starwood Company of USA. WGSHA s training and development activities are recognized by the International Hotel Association, Paris. In July 2003, it became a constituent college of Manipal University. The Institute has international collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University of UK. It is the first Indian Hotel Management Institute listed by the Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (CHRIE). The Institute aims to mould young men and women into competent and responsible professionals with pleasing personalities who would, with requisite experience, become leaders in the hospitality industry. The admission process is driven by a collective vision of the Manipal University and the ITC Hotels Division that seeks to provide educational opportunities to deserving applicants that focuses on inclusiveness, equality of gender, economic and social diversity and opportunity for students with appropriate attitudes along with academic achievements. It is the only Institute in India that offers an ISG International Sommelier Guild certification as part of the BHM degree.
