1 COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT Board of Trustees Meeting November 13, 2017 SOUTH VALLEY INTEGRATED TEACHER EDUCATION 1 PROGRAM (ITEP) FRESNO STATE VISALIA CAMPUS Status: Presented by: Information Jennifer La Serna, Ph.D. Vice President, Academic Services Issue To provide an information update on the Fresno State Visalia Campus. Background Dr. Luz Gonzalez, Dean of the Fresno State Visalia Campus, and Dr. Frederick Peinado Nelson, Associate Professor of Science Education, will present information on the pathway to becoming a teacher through the South Valley ITEP and an update on the Fresno State Visalia Campus. Recommended Action No action is required.
2 Our Commitment The Fresno State Visalia Campus (Visalia Campus) is dedicated to strengthening the communities of the South Valley by providing accessible and affordable high-quality education and lifelong learning experiences to its citizens. An important goal of the Visalia Campus is to support highly motivated students who do not have the means or the time to relocate or commute to the main campus to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees. By offering upper-division baccalaureate and advanced degrees through flexible schedules and a variety of delivery modes (face-to-face, online, blended, two-way video broadcasting, etc.), the Visalia Campus will widen the college pipeline. Priorities Five Baccalaureate and Master s Degree by 2021 Expand General Education Upper Division Course Offerings Expand Professional Development Opportunities Expand Lifelong Learning Lectures and Events

4 As part of the California State University system s mission to provide access to higher education, the CSU is continually developing programs and facilities that work to meet each student s educational goals. In addition to the 23 CSU campuses spread throughout California, the CSU maintains nine additional satellite campuses that help students gain an in-depth and hands-on education. Satellite campuses, or off-campus centers, are intended to serve non-traditional students students who are not able to commute to a main CSU campus and students looking to develop and excel in a certain skill or trade that will help them advance in their profession. 11 Faculty & K-8 Collaboration Courses taught onsite by Fresno State and Community College faculty. High-quality online learning environments. Faculty collaboration with local K-8. Liberal Studies Summer Academy. Partnership continues throughout the academic year. Students work in authentic K-8 settings.
12 Fresno State Visalia Campus Committed to Growing & Keeping Our Own Workforce Funding Priorities Dean s Innovation Fund The Dean s Innovation Fund was established with the goal of improving the life of the campus and the campus experience for students and campus constituents. Donations to the Dean s Innovation Fund will make it possible for the Visalia Campus to: Support the development of challenging and innovative undergraduate and graduate degree programs including the RN to BSN, Health Sciences, Business Administration, Agribusiness, Liberal Studies/MS Credential, and Criminology. Computer Lab and Software Programs for Teaching and Learning. Support student attendance at local, state, or national professional meetings. Sponsor speakers, lectures, forums, workshops, and seminars for students and community. Honor outstanding volunteerism and community service efforts with recognition events at year s end. Provide support for student clubs and organization-thereby assuring leadership development opportunities for students.
13 The Student Success Fund The Student Success Fund ensures that the best academic talent emerging from our community colleges have the resources and opportunity to stay in the South Valley to pursue an undergraduate degree. One of the goals of this program is to alleviate the financial need and improve the educational experience so that students can dedicate themselves to their coursework, graduate in a timely manner, enter the workforce in the region, and give back to their communities. This fund will: Offer one-time student grants to bridge financial need for students enrolled in either state-funded or selfsupport undergraduate programs. Support faculty in the development and implementation of innovative teaching techniques. Support the enhancement of activities that improve student success in high failure rate courses. Encourage students to participate in International Study Abroad Programs. Support Service Learning and related forms of community involvement to benefit both students and local agencies. Increase Collaborate Learning Experiences.
