2 02 03 Welcome to the High School Sixth Form Dear Student, Thank you for your interest in joining the High School Sixth Form where we pride ourselves on high standards in terms of student achievement and pastoral care. We provide a dynamic learning experience thus allowing students to embark on a journey of discovery in their chosen areas. At the High School, we provide a supportive and challenging environment in which students are able to flourish. In this happy, vibrant and inclusive Sixth Form community, students feel they belong to something special. We hope the prospectus will give you a flavour of life in our Sixth Form, and we very much look forward to meeting you at our Information Evening, where you will be able to see the range of opportunities available to our students. 3 04 05 Empowering individuals One of the great strengths of our Sixth Form is that it is small enough for all students to become known by their peers as well as by staff. Induction Day in June allows students to mingle and get to know each other after they have completed their GCSE s. This helps to ensure a smooth transition into life in the High School Sixth Form. Supportive, dedicated and experienced tutors play a pivotal role in this process. In addition, students are placed into vertical tutor groups, which enable tutors and Year 13 students to offer support and guidance to Year 12 students.

4 06 07 Inspiring excellence In the Sixth Form we offer a broad range of subjects and enrichment opportunities. This provision creates a secure foundation which underpins the futures of our students as they pursue their dreams and ambitions. Furthermore, the Sixth Form Curriculum encourages students to be inquisitive, independent and flexible lifelong learners who embrace knowledge and thrive on challenges. The curriculum is frequently reviewed to ensure it meets the needs of an ever changing world for which we are preparing our students. 5 08 09 Embracing opportunities We believe it is vital to offer our students a wide range of enrichment opportunities to complement their studies, to enhance their individual development and to augment their future aspirations. All students in Year 12 have an opportunity to participate in a week s work experience which allows them to gain valuable insight into the world of work. Students are also given the option to study for an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Critical Thinking or Art at AS Level. There are many other enrichment opportunities such as photography, modern language conversation, sports leadership, volunteering and a variety of competitive and recreational sporting activities. We are committed to providing a rounded Sixth Form experience which will equip our students with the qualifications and skills they need to achieve success beyond the Sixth Form.

6 10 11 Nurturing independence The pastoral system at the High School Sixth Form has an excellent reputation for the outstanding care and support that it provides. Each student has a Tutor who fosters a sense of individual worth and provides support, so that students can thrive academically, emotionally and socially. Student progress is closely monitored and the information gathered is shared with both students and parents. This approach enables us to praise students for their successes as well as put in place appropriate intervention strategies, should the need arise.

7 12 13 Developing leaders Sixth Formers are instrumental in driving change and development within the school community by taking on positions of leadership and responsibility. The team of Senior and Assistant Prefects is led by the Head Girl, Head Boy and their Deputies. All play an active part in supporting and mentoring students while acting as role models. As House Officials, Sixth Formers are also encouraged to coordinate House events and activities for the whole school and to run the School Parliament and its six Ministries. It is widely accepted that Student Voice is a real strength of the school. Furthermore, Sixth Form students are responsible for the organisation of charity fundraising events, balls and other activities as well as their involvement in the leadership of a wide variety of clubs and societies for the main school.

8 14 15 Cultivating futures Students are provided with outstanding Careers advice throughout their time in the Sixth Form, whether they want to go to university or wish to pursue apprenticeships, further training or employment. The majority of Year 13 leavers are awarded places at the finest universities, including Cambridge, Oxford and institutions within the Russell Group, as well as a number of local universities. Each year a number of students gain entry into prestigious Music colleges/conservatoires, while others are offered places at Centres for the Performing Arts and at Colleges of Dance. These include: Laine Theatre Arts and Bird College of Dance in London.

9 Student s Perspective 16 At the High School Sixth Form, I spent some of the best days of my life, learning and laughing with friends I know I will keep forever. Being a member of the High School Sixth Form, with its tightly knit and supportive community, provides a huge variety of social opportunities. We have exclusive use of an entire common room furnished with comfortable sofas which allow us to relax; it also boasts its own speakers so we can listen to music whilst playing the popular game of Uno. Another much valued gem is the fully equipped kitchen, with its toasters and microwaves (which we adore) and we re spoilt for choice with a constant supply of hot chocolate, tea and coffee! Similarly, the tuck shop provides a treasure trove of chocolate heaven Crunchies being most popular! Not only this, we are also conveniently situated very close to Costa, Tesco and Dominos which can provide a fab morale boost in the middle of a long day of lessons. Wednesday afternoons usually signal a trip to the far field to support the boy s rugby team and much cheering can be heard when they annihilate the competition! I am so proud to say that I went to High School Sixth Form. The amazing teachers as well as the students are what make it so special and they opened my eyes to new perspectives, ideas and adventures that have changed my life. The school empowered me to dream big, work hard and believe in myself and for that I will be forever grateful. 17

It is easily accessible from Cheltenham, Gloucester and the surrounding areas. We have shared some wonderful memories throughout the two years. It is often said that school days are the best days of your life, and at this stage we can honestly say that the High School Sixth Form has lived up to this claim.
