1 Career Services Fall 2016 Semester Report Programs/Services: Career Services began tracking student traffic and services in August This semester was the first time being fully staffed since Summer 2015; we saw significant growth this semester with an increase of 38 %. Student career exploration has continued to grow at Austin Peay. We began administering a new career assessment tool called Kuder Journey for freshman this fall. Our baseline for the Kuder Assessments are 32; we administered and interpreted 59 Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator Assessments. Our Veteran Career Advisor is a new position, which was added to help support veteran and military affiliated students and alumni. We implemented walk-in hours at the AP Center at Ft. Campbell on Thursdays, from 1-6pm. New Initiatives/Accomplishments: Over 150 Veterans and Military Affiliated students were served through career counseling, resume development, and mock interviewing. Veteran and Military Affiliated Outreach services were conducted to include targeted workshops, in addition to general career services workshops, and informational sessions in conjunction with VetSuccess On Campus and the Military Student Center. In addition, employment opportunities were generated through direct collaboration with area businesses. Received 11 Freshman Scholarship Workers and one Junior (returning). Nine will continue for the Spring and four will not return. Updated Career Services handbooks for our new Peer Career Educators and offered our Peer Career Educator Training Workshop. Updated our Employer Guide to better reflect the services we offer regarding oncampus recruiting efforts. Introduced a mobile marketing campaign to the campus 2-3 times a week in academic departments and residence halls with 41 tables and reaching at least 720 student contacts.
2 The Career Services Webpage was updated to include more information about our career assessments, a No Show policy, federal resources, up-to-date resume and cover letter writing guides with examples and ADA compliance logo. Creating new accounts made additions to our social media presence: Instagram, Tumblr, and Pinterest social media pages in June First combination Fall Career Fair & Graduate and Professional Schools Day. A total of 59 vendors and over 350 students, alumni, and guests in attendance. 3 High Impact Practices Lecture Series (Internships), Center for Teaching and Learning. Veteran Career Advisor has collaborated closely with the Military Student Center, Office of Disability Services, as well as VetSuccess on campus. This collaboration has included: working on joint projects, providing workshops, and direct referral. In addition, the Veteran Career Counselor seeks to provide a smooth handoff to the above student services, as well as appropriate state and community services. Veteran Career Advisor also served on the Leadership Middle Tennessee Panel, providing a critical link between the Office of Career Services and business and industry leaders in Middle Tennessee. Veteran Career Advisor has collaborated with the Department Chair of the College of Business to provide department-specific informational sessions regarding concrete employment opportunities in certain industries. Veteran Career Advisor coordinates with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, as well as the Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) to keep them informed about current programs and services offered by Career Services. Veteran Career Advisor provides direct services to the APSU Ft. Campbell Campus, including career counseling, resume services, and workshops. Assessment Conducted: Assessment conducted to gauge student-learning outcomes as a continuation of hard and soft skills assessment from Spring Gifts, donations, fundraisers, grants: Lynch, E. McConnell, J., Burke, K., & Walker, A. ($14,955). Spring APSU Promoting Retention through Internships & Student Mentorships. TBR Student Engagement, Retention, and Success grant. One-year pilot program to increase the retention rate and career readiness skills of underrepresented minorities to include students defined as economically disadvantaged; non-traditional students, and/or individuals with disabilities, all in their sophomore classification year. (Funded) Jordan, T. ($1000). Fall Special Services Funds offered by the Nashville Area Career Fair Consortium (NACF). The funds are designed to increase student participation for the 2017 NACF. Through this award Career Services will provide transportation for APSU students to attend the 2017 event at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, TN. (Funded)
