5 INTERNSHIP information EC = 10,5 weeks fulltime job (11 weeks) Extension = optional Generation Generation or earlier up to 20 credits up to 18, 20, 21 or 24 credits GOAL: To link theory to practice (research / project) To learn and develop scientific research skills To prepare yourself for your graduation project WHERE: We encourage (Dutch) students to go abroad. In exceptional cases an internship in the Netherlands is optional. Admission requirements = at least 20 EC of the master s program = permission to start the internship

6 INTERNSHIP information Time period In the PER MW regulations are formulated about the maximum time period your internship may take. Your project, including your report, must be completed within this time period. How long? Depending on the number of credits your internship contains. The total number of weeks will be defined in the internship contract, which you need to fill out before te start of your project.

7 HOW MANY WEEKS? Project size = 15 EC = 10,5 weeks = 11 weeks On top of that: Time to write the report = 4 weeks Conclusion: Your internship may take up to a total of 15 weeks. After 15 weeks your internship report must be ready = the report that you submit for review by your TU/e mentor. Then the report can be assessed by your mentor. In some situations your mentor can ask you to make some minor adjustments. You are allowed to do so. The final report must be submitted into SharePoint as soon as possible. Your presentation can also take place after these 15 weeks.

8 SUBMITTING THE REPORT Students who are planning to start their internship this academic year: The (draft) report must be handed in to your TU/e mentor (digital) + cc study advisor and uploaded in SharePoint. The final report must be uploaded in SharePoint as soon as it is finished and assessed. Pay attention: You only receive your grade if your final report is uploaded in the SharePoint archive. Students who are planning to start their internship on September 1 st 2016 or later: The (draft) report must be handed in only to your TU/e mentor + CC study advisor. 9 PAY ATTENTION 15 EC = 15 weeks = working on the project + submit an internship report. The project size = 15 x 28 hours = 420 hours = 11 weeks.

10 What if you cannot meet the deadline of 15 weeks? If there are no obvious reasons for delay.you will receive an insufficient grade. This means you have to start a new project. In exceptional cases (for example personal circumstances) an extension of your internship is possible. As soon a possible: contact your study advisor ( ) Travel is no reason for extension.

11 EXTENSION What if your internship contains 18, 20, 21 or 24 EC? The number of weeks will be converted proportionally.

12 MONITORING PROGRESS During your internship the studyadvisor monitors your progress You will receive three s. Only when your internship doesn t show sufficient progress, you have to send a response.

18 INTERNSHIP procedure organization 4. In consultation with the university / company abroad and your supervisors: complete all forms before the start of your internship. Please note: Every form must be signed by all parties before you can hand them in.

19 INTERNSHIP procedure organization Up to two weeks before the start of the internship: 5. Hand in all the forms at the internship office (GEM-Z 1.126). The internship office will check all the information and signatures on the forms. So please pay attention and clearly write down: The period of your internship abroad (11 weeks) The period of your entire internship (15 weeks) The number of EC you can obtain for your internship If you receive a financial compensation; The internship office will sign your forms as well. 6. You will receive a copy of your fully signed forms. You will need these to apply for a scholarship at STU (and for your insurances)

20 FINAL REMARKS Start to make arrangements? Go to the internship office! (information, procedures, forms) Only by following this procedure, you'll be insured during your internship. 25 TU/e International Experience 2 5 International Experience in the Graduate School The aim of the Graduate School of TU/e is that every MSc student graduating at TU/e has gained international experience. International students at TU/e have already gained international experience since they have done part of their program abroad. Financial (grants, scholarships) and practical support is focused towards those that have not yet gained international experience.

27 Grants and Scholarships 2 7 Via STU/International Office: information about TU/e Fund International Experience, Erasmus+, Erasmus+ Placement, Holland Scholarship 2016/2017: Funding only available for students who are eligible to pay the low tuition fee.

28 Erasmus+ study 2 8 Exchange and Scholarship program of the EC; For students who are undertaking an exchange/research project at an European university with which the TU/e department has a bilateral agreement within the scheme of Erasmus+ Study; Min. 3 months, max. 12 months Grant in 2015/2016: 150/210/270 euro per month (5, 7 or 9 euro a day) depending on destination. The grant is only awarded for a period of max 4,5 months, even when your study abroad period takes a longer time. Countries: EU countries + associated countries
