Essential Qualifications

2 Qualifications that are necessary for the work to be performed and that must be met in order for a person to be appointed. Official Language Proficiency Various language requirements English Essential and French Essential. Education Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university WITH acceptable specialization in Meteorology OR in Physics WITH a diploma or certificate in Meteorology; OR in Mathematics WITH a diploma or certificate in Meteorology; OR Bachelor's degree from a recognized university in another field of Sciences WITH a diploma or certificate in Meteorology. Notwithstanding the nature or field of the university degree mentioned above, the applicant's university transcript must encompass, as a minimum prerequisite, a combination of meteorology, physics and mathematics courses that include: minimum of 30 credits in physics and mathematics, or the equivalent of 10 courses of about 45 lecture hours each; dynamic meteorology thermodynamic meteorology synoptic meteorology three (3) other meteorology related courses. For students with a degree in Physics or Mathematics, the following universities offer the required meteorology courses: Dalhousie (Halifax), UQAM (Montreal), McGill (Montreal), York (Toronto), University of Manitoba (Winnipeg), University of Alberta (Edmonton) and UBC (Vancouver). Education M.Sc. in Meteorology or a related field. University courses in Communications, Geography, Hydrology, Risk Analysis, or Impact Assessment Organizational Needs Current or future needs that could enhance the way in which the organization operates or fulfills its mandate. 4 Shift work (days, evenings, nights, week-ends) on a 24/7 basis. Mobility to various offices across Canada is a requirement of the job in order to respond to the Meteorological Service of Canada's operational needs. Candidates will be assessed against the statement of Merit Criteria hereby available, using one or several of the following tools: written exam, interview and reference check. Selection interviews will be held in February & March Travel costs for the written test, interviews and relocation costs will be paid by Environment Canada.

5 Be advised that if successful in the process, you will be attending a 7 month internship course in one of our 3 training centers located in Dartmouth (Nova Scotia), Montréal (Québec) or and Edmonton (Alberta). Upon completion of the internship course, you will be relocated to one of the Meteorological Service of Canada Centers. Current staffing needs are more important in the following cities: Edmonton, Montreal, and Gander. Both shift work and mobility across Canada are conditions of employment for these positions. Presence is required at the working desk for the entire operational training and shift work.
