1 Universität Regensburg International Office Undergraduate Courses Bachelor: The Bachelor is the first academic degree, which generally can be finished after six semesters of academic studies. Moreover, it is a first professional-qualifying degree. There is a difference between the Bachelor of Arts () and the Bachelor of Science (B. Sc). The six semester (= 3 years) course of study is composed of three to four semesters of basic studies (stage I studies) and two to three semesters of in-depth studies (stage II studies). For the, either one major and two minors or two majors are studied. For the B.Sc., the emphasis is on the study of one subject only. For combined study programmes () please note: In case one of your subjects has a restriction of permission and another one hasn t, you will still get a negative reply for the whole combination, if you get a negative reply for the subject with restriction of permission. Staatsexamen: For the Staatsexamen, the state officially acts as the examiner. Upon its completion, one finishes the degree programme in medicine, law, pharmacy, and teaching. Depending on the subject, the standard period of study averages between eight and twelve semesters. The training and examinations are standardized statewide and nationwide. Training is concluded at the university with the first Staatsexamen. For lawyers and teachers, the traineeship that takes place outside of the university is completed with a second Staatsexamen. This list does not contain any Teacher Training Programmes. If you are interested in these programmes, please seek advice from the International Office. Information online: An overview of the subjects offered at the University of Regensburg as well as detailed information for each subject can be found on the following homepage (only in German): Information about German language certificates and DSH For most fields of study, a German language test, the DSH, needs to be taken before you can begin. Usually a result of DSH2 is necessary to matriculate. For several specific fields of study, a DSH test result of DSH1 suffices. Please look at the tips under "Special Features for more information. 4 S e i t e 4 Degree courses with restriction of permission have only a limited number of places. Therefore, the university selects those candidates from all applicants that are especially qualified. The decision is based on the grades of the school or college/university leaving certificate. * 2 ) Aptitude Test Some degree courses require an aptitude test that needs to be passed successfully before the semester starts. This is a pre-requisite for enrolment. For some aptitude tests you need to register beforehand. Please contact the respective faculty or the International Office early enough. * 3 ) Elective Minor Studies (=Frei Kombinierbares Nebenfach, FKN) In addition to the tracks already mentioned, an elective minor studies" track can be taken, which is designed to support non-traditional, interdisciplinary and project-oriented courses of study. Here students design their own minor by combining any two study units" (Studieneinheiten). More in-depth information about course work and assessment can be found on the university homepage under each of the respective study units: FKN Foreign Language Requirements Some degree courses (such as French Language and Literature) expect candidates to have foreign language skills in the desired field and you will have to take a language aptitude test. However, other Language and Literature programmes exist - like Italian, Spanish and Russian - where candidates are not required to have any experience of studying these languages. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn the basics of the respective language in special preparation classes shortly before the programme starts. Competence in Latin is a requirement for some degree courses that you have to give proof of during your studies (History, Archaeology, Musicology, Greek Language and Literature). If your level of Latin is not yet up to the one required or if you have not studied Latin before, you can acquire the necessary Latin skills during courses at the university. Please allow an extra semester for the acquisition of Latin. The International Office or the Advisory Services will tell you whether Latin is compulsive for your field of studies. Advisory Services When selecting a subject to study, it is highly recommended to make use of the help of the Central Department for Course Counseling (Zentrale Studienberatung) and the advisor for the subject to be studied (Fachstudienberater). An overview of the Advisory Services at the University of Regensburg is available under: Studium Studienberatung (German website) For additional information on certain subjects you can contact the advisor for the subject to be studied (Fachstudienberater) or research on the webpages of the individual faculties and on the webpage Studienangebot Fakultäten (German website) Studium Studienangebot (German website) Information about the application process Information for international applicants regarding the academic and language requirements for the application process can be obtained in the International Office (administration building, room 0.12). international.degree-student@ur.de Office hours: Office hours specifically for refugees: Monday & Wednesday 9:30 11:30 a.m. Tuesday & Thursday 1 3 p.m. You can find detailed information on the homepage of the International Office:
5 S e i t e 5 Graduate Courses Master: The Master course of study is a graduate degree programme that generally lasts four semesters. Prerequisite for acceptance into a Master programme is the completion of a Bachelor degree or an academic certificate of equal worth. Examination rules regulate which courses of study (majors) or Bachelor degrees will be approved as prerequisites for admission into the respective Master programme. There is a difference between the and the. Only one subject is studied in a Master programme. Magister Legum: For international applicants who have graduated successfully with a law degree from a university abroad, the law faculty specially offers a postgraduate course of study with the degree Magister Legum (LL.M.). The degree programme lasts at least two semesters. Selection Process: A selection process takes place for every Master degree program, in which the respective institute decides on the formal and qualitative eligibility of the applicant. The decision on admission normally is taken on the basis of the written application documents (without interview or test) by every institute independently. Therefore the application documents must be directed to the corresponding institute. Information online: An overview of the subjects offered at the University of Regensburg as well as detailed information sheets for each subject (including the most important links) can be found on the following homepage (only in German): Information about German language certificates and DSH For most fields of study, a German language test, the DSH, needs to be taken before you can begin. Usually a result of DSH2 is necessary to matriculate. For several specific fields of study, a DSH test result of DSH1 suffices or you may not need to take a German language test at all if the area of study is instructed in English.
