1 April 2015 WIA and Program Report CENTER OPERATIONS We saw 237 first-time visitors in April, with a daily average of 53 customers. We saw 1,158 total customers, our highest month to date. We made 1,662 referrals to internal and external partners. We have had 7,818 total visits for the year to date. Partners on site one or more days a week include DARS, Massanutten Technical Center, James Madison University, Telamon, WIA and SCSEP. PRESENTATIONS Valley Workforce Center information presentations in April included Dr. Ford s JMU career counselor graduate class, First Step, Headstart, Waynesboro High School, and several presentations at the Waynesboro Library job fair day. Thirty-five presentations have been held in the ten months of the current program year. CLASSES Classes conducted in February included: Center orientation workforce services overview Resume writing WIA orientation program information overview s, Etc. business correspondence Interviewing skills Networking Who Do You Know? A new class in June will be Money Matters, an information workshop with topics including predatory lending, understanding your credit score, budgeting, banking, the difference between pay cards and pay checks and how to use ATM machines safely. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION We had 99 respondents to the April customer satisfaction survey. Results from the Customer Satisfaction Survey:

4 She was great helping me out and very friendly. Very helpful. SUCCESS STORY Kim T. is a single mother who has struggled to support herself and her family for several years. Due to a conviction history, it was difficult for her to find self-supporting, sustainable employment. At her last job, she managed a video store, but after that job ended she was unable to find any type of employment. Kim shared that she had a desire to become a truck driver. She contacted the local truck driving school, who referred her to the Valley Workforce Center.. Kim established eligibility for Workforce Investment Act funding, and was provided tuition, testing, and fees to take the CDL exams. Her case manager assisted her with pre-vocational services and resume preparation. Kim states It s changed my life. I knew what I wanted. Cherie and Teri helped me all the way. They were cheering me on. Kim is now employed with Trans Am. She loves being a truck driver. She reports that It is exhausting, but it feels good to be successful. Kim is now off of all public assistance. She ended her story by telling us With everything I ve gone through, God has helped me through it, along with people like you. Congratulations, Cherie, Teri and team great job! WIA SUMMARY The Workforce Investment Act program enrolled 16 new participants in March, totaling 267 new enrollments for the 2015 program year. The average wage at placement for Adults is $11.75/hour; Dislocated Workers, $14.66/hour and Youth, $10.04/hour. There are 322 active clients in the five centers 124 total exits for the program year Total served for the program year = 446, which is 96.1% of our goal for PY 2015 at 83.3% of the year (10 of 12 months).
