We, the members of this beloved fraternity, exemplify the Four Cardinal Principles so adopted by our founding fathers: manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. The men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity support the continuing education of young African American males through mentoring and financial support. Students will be selected from a pool of applicants from the Philadelphia Public School system. Each award winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The eligibility requirements are as follows: Below are the specific requirements: A graduating male senior who will be matriculating to a four year accredited college or university. A graduating male senior with a solid academic high school record. Students vying for the Mu Omega, scholarship must demonstrate high academic standards or a gradual pattern of grade improvement throughout their high school career. You, the student, must: Complete an application Provide the committee with an official high school transcript Two letters of recommendations from someone other than a family member There will be a mandatory interview session and orientation meeting The completed applications must be sent to the above address, c/o Dr. Allan E. Thomas, Ph.D., Mu Omega Scholarship Committee and received no later than Friday, April 1, The mandatory interview will be held at the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity house, again at the above address. Attendance is mandatory and business attire is strongly suggested as proper attire for the interviews; shirt, tie, and jacket. 5 APPLICATION ESSAY All applicants must complete an essay on the two topics below. The essay will provide valuable insight about your ability to communicate your ideas, writing skills, and articulate your personal experiences and goals. Please type your essays on a separate sheet of paper. Remember, scoring criteria is based on quality of work and not on the quantity of words. (Please proof read your essay for spelling errors and fragmented sentences). *** After the Scholarship Committee reviews the applications received and those applicants allowed to continue the process, an oral presentation and brief interview will follow. See introductory letter. *** Topics 1) Name a person that you admire, who has received an education beyond high school. Describe why you admire this person, what positive attributes you recognize in this person, why you believe that education has helped this person become successful. 2) Choose a current event issue of interest to you, and explain its relevance to you and your family, your community and the world.
