8 County Superintendent Intervention Responsibilities Required to intervene when budgets are qualified or negative. May intervene at any time during the fiscal year. May call for an extraordinary audit when fraud, misappropriation is suspected. 7 County Superintendent Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAP) Reviews each district s LCAP for adherence to state requirements. Must approve LCAP before approving budget. Comments on the efficacy of the LCAP. 8 4
9 What is California School Dashboard? The Dashboard is a new website that shows how local educational agencies and schools are performing on the indicators (test scores and graduation rates) included in California s new school accountability system. The Dashboard provides information that schools can use to improve. Why was the Dashboard created? The Dashboard was created to provide parents and the public a better idea of what is happening in our schools and to identify schools and districts that need extra help. The Dashboard is a component of the Local Control Funding Formula law passed in 2013 that changed how California provides funding to public schools and holds local educational agencies accountable for student performance
10 Riverside County has the second highest graduation rate in the state among counties larger than 25,000 students. 11 Race to Submit Race to Submit is challenging high schools in Riverside County to increase their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submission rates and helping students discover the financial aid available to them. 12 6
11 13 The CTE Program is a career training program designed to: Help prepare students for a wide-range of careers by providing marketable skills and a strong work ethic. Courses offer students hands-on experience needed to secure and maintain employment. Some classes offer students college credit for work completed in high school. 14 7

13 Project Moving Forward Adopt-a-School Chronic Absenteeism Teacher Village 17 Background: Project Moving Forward (PMF) started in Sacramento and Moreno Valley. The purpose of the program is to address the achievement gap that exists for English learners and other diverse learners, including economically disadvantaged students. The goal of PMF is to increase academic achievement for students who are significantly behind in both reading and math. In a 2016 Press Enterprise newspaper article entitled: How Vocabulary Lessons That Started in Moreno Valley are Helping Students, documented how Seneca Elementary, the demonstration school for PMF, made the highest gains on the CAASP high stakes testing in Moreno Valley USD and in Riverside County for language arts. 18 9
14 Background: The goal of the program is for every school in Riverside County to be adopted/supported by a business or faith-based organization. There are many ways a business can support a school, including: Participating in school events to show appreciation for student achievement and staff performance. Volunteering on Career Day to speak with classes about owning and operating a business. Making a donation of funds or equipment. Inviting students to perform at company functions where appropriate. Advertising support of the school and displaying an Adopt-a-School certificate, and/or banner at the business. Community Outreach Ambassadors will establish strategic partnerships with businesses and school districts throughout Riverside County Background: The program objective is to substantially reduce the percentage of chronically absent students by working with their parents, communities, and school instructors and administrators to help close the student academic achievement gap.
