FLEC had been established in May 24 th 2014 by enthusiastic local youths under the leadership of monks who had graduated from different universities of different countries, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka. Mainly we support education opportunities for high school students, in rural area, who are lack of finance for going to high school in the towns.

2 Vision To build peaceful and prosperous society with equality, justice and liberation through openness of education Mission Raising youths with well-behaviours capable in enhancement of socio-economic changes through providing education opportunities and capacities Objectives 1. To upgrade education system from traditional teaching methods to modern teaching methods 2. To provide quality or competent education to students so that they can enrich international skills 3. To support education opportunities to rural youths who are lack of finance for going to high school education 4. To raise youth generations who have been empowered to lead social changes in the community 5. 3 Main Activities Providing Education Needs for Youths in the community Building Capacities for Youths for practical implementation of social improvement Supporting Youths with special program to study abroad by scholarship Collecting need s assessments for community development projects Advocating communities to enable for self-empowerment and for democracy and human rights Providing training course or technical skills on professional of social works Key Achievement Targeting primary and secondary students, provide English Course for children and telling short-story course Promoting abilities of high school and university students, support English Course for adult and computer course Opening FLEC s library to enrich knowledge for enhancement of educational skills in different fields. Organizing to conduct training courses youth-capacity building, introduction to management, introduction to project management and introduction to the basic concepts of research, introduction to organizational behaviour, introduction to social studies, social media course for the public and teacher training course. Writing Report or Small Research to describe the situations of local communities (May 2016, A Study of the Root of Civil War between Myanmar Army and Arakan Army and the Situation of IDP in Rakhine State, it is only Myanmar version) Raising Youths who are willing to collaborate FLEC s programs, by creating local scholarship program to acquire capacities for implementation of FLEC s projects. Now there are 9 persons in scholarship group who will be permanent staff of FLEC with giving fair salary. Advocating and initiating the community in the township for social changes (advocated villagers to repair streets in the villages, the flood affected areas, in Rakhine State in August 2015)

4 Working Criteria FLEC has worked with any organizations which are supporting and taking care of education and capacities of development projects for youths and rural development projects. FLEC is always willing to collaborate any organization working in our criteria and support any stakeholders, social workers, organizations, education reform organizations and others interested in promoting well-being of people of Myanmar with equality and justice. Our Motto Let s improve by education and contribute what we have known and make better place together is our motto.

6 Fund Mostly budgets in our works have received from donation of Rakhine people who are working in foreign countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore and so on. Occasionally we seek the fund from selling food and teashop in traditional ceremonies and celebrations. Then, advocating to the persons who are interested in contributing of our works. We do not receive any fund from the government yet and we do not work with International Organizations by collaboration yet but later on we hope to have a chance some days. Generally speaking, the lack of finance is our main problem to operate our works properly even though we have good plans to move forward. Anyhow, we are trying our best what in we believe and we are always thinking of better future. Scholarship Program: Arakan Prospect Scholarship This Program aims to bear tomorrow leaders to run sustainable developments in our communities and aims to supply education opportunities to youths a step further for going to international education when they are capable. This program has begun in 2015 to create education opportunities, work skills and experiences to youths as well. Who can apply? Completed high school and university students who are willing to work with us can apply for this scholarship. The chosen students are given training courses for 6 th months at Ponnagyun and Sittwe by all expenses of FLEC. When apply? We usually call scholarship application at end of May yearly after summer courses. Working Training course Our training courses are conducted with collaboration of our network partners, Creative Garden (CG) and Center for Education, Arts and Literature (CEAL) mainly based on Sittwe. Our training courses are designed to promote general knowledge to them, General English Course, Basic and Intermediate Computer Course, Introduction to Social Science, Introduction to Political Science, Leadership and Management and Teacher Training Course.

7 Agreement or Contract We generally choose final candidates out of many applicants who suit with our requirement or criteria and make mutual agreement for working of 2 years in FLEC. Then, we start to provide training courses for 6 th months and they will be volunteer teachers for two years with agreement after completion of the courses. 8 High School Program Background Frankly speaking, education in Myanmar is unqualified and traditional. Education in rural of Myanmar is very difficult to go to high school and most of government schools provide only primary education and there are only a few of secondary education with lack of quality and incompetence. Some villages has formed self-reliant group to support secondary education to youths by hiring private teachers or volunteer teacher with payment. But high school education is a big difference and needs more capable teachers to enable teaching of high school education. Additionally, Myanmar is shortage in skillful teachers for high school education. Therefore, the students who want to continue high school education need to go to the towns or cities where high school education is available perfectly than rural. The problem happens to start here for those who are lack of finance to go to high school, including of living, food, social and healthy expenses for the whole year. Finally, many students from rural are out of school and over by primary and secondary school. Objectives This program aims to provide education opportunities for rural students who are lack of finance for high school. Moreover, we give training courses to them so that they can contribute their knowledge in their communities in return. Hope to Live We usually call this program hope to live that supports to continue education life and hope how they can achieve in the life by great efforts.
