MSCA Less is more! The MSC Actions merged into 5 actions (instead of 9 in FP7) but (almost) everything is still in there and new sub measures were added! Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft Sensengasse Wien 2
Objectives What are the aims of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCAs)? To raise the number of high qualified researchers in the European Research Area, across all research disciplines MSCAs as an instrument to reach research policy objectives that are relevant in this context Supporting education, career development and transnational as well as intersectoral mobility Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft Sensengasse Wien 3
Introduction some general issues The European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code) will gain in importance The MSCA are a combination of research related education and training transferable skills The inter-sectoral cooperation between the academic and nonacademic sector is important in most actions You have to choose one out of 8 scientific panels when submitting your proposal Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft Sensengasse Wien 4
Introduction some general issues Early stage researcher in the first 4 years of their research careers after the master and not yet awarded a doctoral degree Experienced researcher at least 4 years of full-time research experience after the master or completed doctoral degree Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft Sensengasse Wien 5
Introduction some general issues New definitions: Academic sector public or private higher education establishments awarding academic degrees public or private non-profit research organisations whose primary mission is to pursue research international European interest organisations Non-academic sector any socio-economic actor not included in the academic sector and fulfilling the requirements of the Horizon 2020 Rules for Participation (e.g. enterprises, hospitals, insurance companies, museums, ministries, NGOs ) Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft Sensengasse Wien 6

Introduction Is MSCA the right programme? It is a bottom up programme, but the project idea must be in line with the specific aim of the concerned MSCA High quality doctoral programme Career development strategies Intersectoral cooperation The proposed research/innovation activities have to be of high quality The transnational mobility of the researchers is a precondition in most MSCAs Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft Sensengasse Wien 8
