1 2014 Haskell Indian Nations University FALL 2014 STUDENT INFORMATION This document is a compilation of information to assist and update new, transfer, re-admitted, and continuing students to prepare for arrival on campus in August. 2 New & Transfer Student Orientation and Enrollment Schedule Discover Haskell! Haskell Indian Nations University Discover Haskell 2014 We have been waiting for you! Our theme for orientation this year is Discover Haskell. Your guides for this discovery will be our Haskell Student Ambassadors. These young men and women are ready, willing, and able to help you make the transition to college. Aside from your personal belongings we ask that you bring the following to campus: 1). Positive attitude, 2.) Your leadership style, 3.) Sense of humor, and 4.) Respect. Why is orientation important? Take a few moments and review the schedule of events for your first week at Haskell. Orientation activities, events, and programming are designed with you the student in mind. Our goal is to connect you with faculty and staff, provide information on our academic programs, and learn about the resources available to support your successful transition to Haskell. We strongly encourage you to attend all events and activities as scheduled. The events and activities will assist and provide you with the resources, tools, and knowledge to support your success at Haskell. There are times open for you to explore the campus and Lawrence on your own and even make those last minute trips to purchase items for your room. We look forward to meeting you in August! Thursday, August 14, The first day! 8 am 8 pm New & Transfer Student Check-in Navarre Hall Room 114 Students are required to check-in with the Office of Admissions upon arrival to campus. Check-in must be completed before you move in to your residence hall and for enrollment. During the check-in you will also receive your Haskell identification card. Be prepared to take a picture! 9 am Residential Halls Open for New and Transfer Students Reminder: Check-in is required before proceeding to residential halls. Auditorium Students and families are encouraged to attend this kick-off event for Orientation! The program will include a welcome by Dr. Venida Chenault, Haskell President and provide an overview of Haskell s history, programs, and services. 2:15-3:30 pm Workshops for Parents and Family Sequoyah Hall Workshops designed for parents and families hosted by Haskell staff and faculty will include topics on how to support your student at college, financial aid, and safety. Friday, August 15, :00 am Testing 1-2-3: Math Placement Testing Sequoyah Hall/Math Department Q: Who should attend? A: Students over the age of 21 years and GED students Still not sure? Check with the Admissions staff to clarify in Navarre Hall in room 112A. 2:15-3:30 pm History of Haskell Walking Tour Auditorium Designed to acclimate new and transfer students to campus through discovering Haskell s history, programs, and people! Wear your walking shoes. Saturday, August 16, :45-4 pm College Success Seminars I Sequoyah Hall You will receive YOUR Academic Advising file at this event! Keep track of this file folder as you will need these materials for sessions on Sunday, Monday, and enrollment on Tuesday. The workshops sessions are 25 minutes and students will rotate through each workshop. The sessions will provide resources and tools for your academic Haskell! Arrive early to receive your advising file folder find your seat for the first workshop session. A: The Student Success Center will assist you. The Student Success Center is located in Sequoyah Hall. You are encouraged to meet with them before your scheduled enrollment time. Q: What if I miss my scheduled appointment time with my advisor on Tuesday to enroll? A: You will have to wait until 3:00 p.m. and return to your advisor s office to complete. Q: What if I lose my advising folder? A: Immediately go to the Admissions Office in Navarre Hall for assistance. If after 5 p.m infomr a Student Ambassador know and they can assist you. 3
5 New & Transfer Student Orientation and Enrollment Schedule Monday, August 18, :30-2:30 pm Mandatory Overview for Enrollment Auditorium This session will answer questions and check your documents and guide you through the process of enrollment set for Tuesday, August 19 th. Bring your catalog, Advising folder, and your questions! Tuesday, August 19, 2014 Follow these four steps If you have questions Student Ambassadors, Faculty & Staff will be available to direct and assist you. Step 1: Find YOUR assigned time and then proceed to your assigned advisor s office with the tentative class schedule you completed at Sunday prep sessions. The schedule to enroll is based on YOUR last name. Step 2: You and your advisor will complete your schedule to enroll. Reminder: Your advisor s name is on your academic advising file folder. Step 3: You will receive 2 copies of your fall class schedule. One is for you to keep and the other is for you to take to the library (Tommaney Hall) for textbooks. Step 4: Take schedule to library (Tommaney Hall) and to pick up your textbooks you must present your Haskell photo ID card. Notes: 4

Your information packet will have details to get you connected. Don t forget to visit the Jim. The Jim Thorpe Fitness Center has weights, cardio, and treadmills ready for you to use. The Student Success Center is the place to go for assistance, sending/receiving a fax, use a computer, print, or just have a good cup of coffee. 11 Sunday, August 17, :00am Check in Residential Halls -Housing Open for Continuing Students 10:00am to 5:00pm Official Schedule Pick up Preenrolled Students Enter Navarre Hall, you will be given two (2) official schedules, one for the library and the other schedule is your official schedule. Pick up your schedule even if you plan on changing your schedule so Haskell knows you are on campus. Be sure to have your student or photo ID. If you do not pick up your schedule on Sunday your schedule will be dropped on Monday, August 18, 2014 at noon. Late arrival Schedule pick up If you will be late coming back to campus, please contact the Office of the Registrar by at to let us know when you will be arriving. Haskell Indian Nations University Continuing Students Fall 2014 Schedule Monday, August 18, 2014 Continued 9:00am 12:00pm ENROLLMENT Continuing Students- Not Pre-enrolled Students who have not pre-enrolled will meet with their academic advisors on Monday, August 18, Advisor will encode the classes. Advisors will sign on your official copies 12:00pm (Noon) Classes Dropped If you have not picked up your official schedule through the Office of the Registrar, your classes will be dropped. Exceptions if you have notified the Registrar s Office in writing of your late arrival your classes will not be dropped.
