You can choose from two types of degree courses comprehensive or specialist or even study two courses at the same time. COMPREHENSIVE COURSES Comprehensive courses are all about developing expertise, and offer maximum flexibility and choice. You can choose comprehensive courses already knowing what your major area of study will be, or try a range of subjects in your first year before settling on your major. SPECIALIST COURSES Specialist courses allow you to concentrate on a particular area of study from day one, giving you the focus and depth required for entry into many careers. Our flexibility allows you to better match your studies to your interests, or get a broader education that will set you ahead. We care about your wellbeing and offer transition programs, peer networking, mentoring and study skills workshops to help you settle in and adjust to uni life. We also have a comprehensive range of support services, including medical, counselling and mental health services, support for Indigenous students, the Ally Network (LGBTIQ), disability services, childcare, Career Connect and financial assistance. FAST TRACK TO SUCCESS Most of our pathway programs allow you to progress straight into the second year of your Monash degree on successful completion, or give you credit for the units you have studied (meaning you can take fewer subjects for one or two semesters of your degree). You won t waste time and may complete your pathway and degree in just three to four years. You might also receive credit for any previous university or TAFE/VET units you ve completed. FULL-TIME/PART-TIME Monash offers both full-time and part-time study options in most degree courses. You can enrol in just one unit or up to the maximum for your course (usually four units per semester). This gives you the flexibility to fit study in around the necessities of your life. FAIR ENTRY AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT We understand that your previous academic achievement might not reflect your true ability to succeed at university. We operate two entry schemes the Monash Guarantee and the Special Entry Access Scheme that you can find out about on page 12. 4 DIPLOMA OF TERTIARY STUDIES (DOTS) Peninsula On-campus 1 year Full-time February Semester 1 If you completed Year 12 but didn t quite meet the entry requirements for your dream course, DoTS might be the pathway for you. On successful completion you can get up to one year of credit towards a range of degrees in Business, Business Administration, Education or Nursing. $ If you re a domestic student you will be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place for this course. You can then defer your student contribution payment through the HECS-HELP loan scheme if you re eligible. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Prerequisites Year 12: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL. Non-Year 12: As for Year 12 or Year 12 equivalent. Selection criteria ATAR Entire Educational History VTAC Personal Statement. HOW TO APPLY Apply via the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) Complete a VTAC Personal Statement. MORE INFORMATION study.monash/courses The Diploma of Tertiary Studies (DoTS) is a pathway to degrees in Business, Business Administration, Education and Nursing, as well as a range of other Monash courses. When you apply for the diploma, you ll select a course stream (either Business, Education or Nursing) that will be your area of specialisation leading to your chosen degree. DoTS will help you become an independent learner and support you by providing an introduction to tertiary studies in your area of interest. COURSE STRUCTURE You ll complete two foundation units and six discipline units within the area of study you ve chosen. The foundation units provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to be an independent learner who can succeed at university. If you don t have the mathematics prerequisites for your desired Monash course, you ll have the opportunity to gain the required level of mathematics via the foundation units. If you already meet the mathematics prerequisites, you ll take a unit in understanding knowledge and its contexts, which will help you to identify, compare and discuss different approaches to knowledge. Once you ve successfully completed DoTS you can get up to one year of credit towards a range of specified Monash degree courses. In addition to the direct pathways, you can apply for entry into other courses through VTAC after successfully completing DoTS. Make sure that you ve met the prerequisites for your chosen course. Admission into your course will be based on your academic performance and meeting the course prerequisites. All your study is at university level so if you progress to a degree course you ll be eligible to apply for credit for prior study. The amount of credit granted will be at the discretion of the relevant faculty and will not automatically allow for progression into the second year of your preferred course. Note: If you select the Education stream you will be required to complete a CASPer test and achieve the required standard prior to gaining admission into the destination degree. 2

5 The DoTS program allowed me to transition into university and feel well-supported. The course has opened up so many windows of opportunity. It has enabled me to reach my goal of studying at Monash, helped develop skills useful for my dream profession, and given me the opportunity to meet some amazing people. CASSANDRA KOVAC Bachelor of Education After learning about the Diploma of Tertiary Studies (DoTS) program at a Monash Open Day, Cassandra decided it would better suit her transition from high school. Once she completed DoTS, Cassandra gained entry into the Bachelor of Education course. 3

6 DIPLOMA OF HIGHER EDUCATION (DOHE) Clayton On-campus 1 year Full-time February Semester 1 $ If you re a domestic student you will be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place for this course. You can then defer your student contribution payment through the HECS-HELP loan scheme if you re eligible. DoHE might suit you if you completed Year 12 but you didn t quite meet the entry requirements for your dream course, if you re returning to study or would benefit from additional learning support. On successful completion you can get up to one year of credit towards a range of degrees in Education and Science. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Prerequisites Year 12: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL. Non-Year 12: As for Year 12 or Year 12 equivalent. MORE INFORMATION study.monash/courses The Diploma of Higher Education lets you begin studying towards your Monash degree from day one. Equivalent to the first year of university undergraduate study, it provides a pathway to selected undergraduate courses and support to ensure you achieve your academic goals. It s delivered from our Clayton campus, so you ll be able to access support from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education. When you apply for DoHE, you will select either the Education or the Science stream. These streams provide a direct pathway into specified Monash degree courses. Education stream In the Education stream you will build a foundation in the professional skills and knowledge required to practise as a teacher/educator in a range of educational and school settings. This stream provides a direct pathway into the second year of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Primary and Secondary Education course and up to one year of credit towards the following double degree courses: Bachelor of Education (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Education (Honours) and Bachelor of Business Bachelor of Education (Honours) and Bachelor of Information Technology. Students can specialise in either Primary or Secondary Education. Note: If you complete the Education stream you will be required to complete a CASPer test and achieve the required standard prior to gaining admission into the destination degree course. Science stream In the Science stream you ll be introduced to a broad range of science fields by completing a sequence of study in two of the following areas: biological sciences; chemistry; computational science; earth, atmosphere and environment; mathematics; and physics. This will allow you to gain a foundation in key scientific principles while determining your future major area of study. This stream provides a direct pathway into the second year of the Bachelor of Science course, and the Bachelor of Education (Honours) and Bachelor of Science double degree course. 4 COURSE STRUCTURE DoHE consists of two foundation units and six discipline units within the area of study corresponding to your chosen stream. Discipline units can be selected based on interest and prerequisites needed for successful study. In addition to the direct pathways, you can apply for entry into other courses through VTAC after successfully completing DoHE. Make sure that you ve met the prerequisites for your chosen course. Admission into your course will be based on your academic performance and meeting the course prerequisites. All your study is at university level so if you progress to a bachelor's degree course you ll be eligible to apply for credit for prior study. The amount of credit granted will be at the discretion of the relevant faculty and will not automatically allow for progression into the second year of your preferred course.

7 PATHWAYS TO LAW Clayton On-campus Up to 5.5 years Full-time February Semester 1 $ If you re a domestic student you will be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place for this course. You can then defer your student contribution payment through the HECS-HELP loan scheme if you re eligible. Our pathways to law are designed for students who have the talent and determination to succeed in our Bachelor of Laws but just miss out on the clearly-in ATAR. If you identify as an Indigenous Australian, live in a low socio-economic area or have experienced financial hardship you could be eligible. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL. Minimum ATAR or equivalent of Completed an Australian Year 12 or IB. Not completed any study at tertiary level. Satisfy requirements for home location, financial disadvantage or identify as an Indigenous Australian. Commerce stream As above plus Units 3 and 4 a study score of at least 25 in Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics. Science stream As above plus Units 3 and 4 a study score of at least 25 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geography, Mathematical Methods (any), Specialist Mathematics, Physics or Psychology. There are a specified number of places available in these programs. All students who have satisfied the entry requirements will be ranked based on ATAR, with offers given to those who have achieved the highest ATAR. HOW TO APPLY Apply via the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) Complete a SEAS application through VTAC MORE INFORMATION monash.edu/seas monash.edu/law/future-students/undergraduate Our pathways to law let you begin studying towards the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) or selected double degrees from day one. You ll also receive mentoring opportunities with law academics. You ll enrol into one of the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts (Law Pathway) Bachelor of Commerce (Law Pathway) Bachelor of Science (Law Pathway). In your first year, you ll study four first-year Law subjects along with four Arts, Commerce or Science subjects. If you pass all first-year subjects with a credit (60 per cent) average in all four Law units and a credit (60 per cent) average overall, you are guaranteed a place in any of the following courses: second year of the relevant double-degree course (Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/ Bachelor of Science) second year of the Bachelor of Laws (Honours). If you don t achieve the credit average overall and the required average in the Law units, you can transfer to the relevant single-degree course (Arts, Commerce or Science), obtaining credit for any subjects you ve passed. If you pass all subjects, you ll progress straight to second year. $2000 SCHOLARSHIP DID YOU KNOW? Students admitted to a Law Pathway will be guaranteed a Vice-Chancellor s Scholarship for Achievement valued at $2000. 8 The Monash Access Program was the most suitable university pathway program for me because it gave me a smooth transition into tertiary education. As I had been away from school for many years, immediately entering university may not have prepared me as well as MAP did. JOSHUA DISSANAYAKE Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems Joshua left high school during Year 11, moving straight into work. While he enjoyed working he found that his lack of refined critical skills was holding him back, and began to understand the advantages of university study for his chosen career in IT. Joshua is now completing his Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems. 6

9 MONASH ACCESS PROGRAM (MAP) Clayton On-campus 8 months Part-time If you re a mature-aged student (aged 21+) who wants to study Arts, Business, Education or Information Technology, MAP might be for you. May $ MAP has no tuition fees. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 21+ years of age by 1 January of the year you enrol. No prior university study. Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or holder of a humanitarian visa. Completed secondary school in English. MAP helps you develop the skills you need to successfully participate in your studies, and gives you the option to progress to a range of internationally recognised Monash degree courses. We give priority to students who have experienced financial hardship or other disadvantage. You ll have full access to library resources and student services. COURSE STRUCTURE You ll study the following four units: 1. Learning in a university context 2. Mathematics for tertiary study 3. Academic writing 4. An elective of your choice. The elective allows you to choose a first-year unit from a selected list of subjects offered by the faculties of Arts, Business, Education and Information Technology. Upon successful completion of MAP, you may be eligible for direct admission into one of the following destination degree courses provided that you meet the guaranteed entry score for that course and any additional entry requirements including prerequisites: Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Business Bachelor of Business Administration Bachelor of Education (Honours) Bachelor of Information Technology. 7

10 MONASH COLLEGE DIPLOMA 8 Caulfield, Clayton On-campus 8 12 months Full-time February, June or October $ While Monash College diplomas are full-fee-paying, scholarships are available for eligible domestic students who have experienced disadvantage to cover tuition fees. Commonwealth Supported Places are not available; however, you may be eligible to defer your fees via FEE-HELP. LIMITED SCHOLARSHIPS DID YOU KNOW? There is a limited number of scholarships that cover the full tuition fee for students who are Indigenous Australians, have low incomes, are from a low SES or regional area, or attend a Monash-listed under-represented school. With a Monash College Diploma, you could pathway into the second year of Art and Design, Arts, Business, Engineering, Information Technology or Science. Monash College might suit you if you completed Year 12 but didn t meet the ATAR for your dream course. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The following requirements are for direct entry into Diploma Part 2. You must have completed Year 12 and achieved the following ATAR: Art and Design ATAR of 50 Arts Engineering Science Arts Business Engineering Sociology stream Sociology Education stream Information Technology stream Science stream Science Education stream Psychology stream Psychology Education stream Business stream Business Education stream Commerce stream Commerce Education stream Engineering stream Subject prerequisites also apply. ATAR of 65 ATAR of 70 If you re interested in an Art and Design pathway but aren t able to satisfy the portfolio requirements for Part 2, you may wish to consider the Diploma of Art and Design Part 1 pathway. After successfully completing the diploma program to the required academic standard, you can enter the second year of Monash University courses within the following fields: Art, design and architecture Arts, humanities and social sciences Business Education (selected double degrees only) Engineering Information technology Science. COURSE STRUCTURE Monash College diplomas are delivered in two parts. Where you start will depend on your qualifications. Part 1 is for those students who have completed Australian Year 11 or equivalent. After successfully completing part 1, you can start part 2. If you achieve exceptional marks in part 1 you may be eligible to enter the first year of selected courses at Monash University. Part 2 is for students who have completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent. During part 2, you will study the same curriculum and complete the same assessments as first-year university students. After successfully completing and meeting faculty entry requirements, you re eligible for entry into the second year of a relevant Monash degree. 11 MONASH INDIGENOUS ACCESS PROGRAM (MIAP) Clayton On-campus One to two semesters Full-time February Semester 1 June Semester 2 $ MIAP has no tuition fees. MIAP is designed to support Indigenous Australians in making a successful transition to university. On successful completion you can transfer directly into a range of Monash degree and double degree courses. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Writing skills comparable to a Year 12 pass, or TAFE/VET equivalent; demonstrate a strong commitment to tertiary study. HOW TO APPLY Directly to Monash Yulendj Engagement Unit using the Monash Indigenous Access Program application form found at: monash.edu/about/ indigenous/students/non-award Or contact Yulendj: p: e: yulendj@monash.edu MORE INFORMATION study.monash monash.edu/about/indigenous The Monash Indigenous Access Program (MIAP) is designed to support Indigenous Australians to make a successful transition to university. It will help you develop and strengthen your academic skills and prepare you for success at university. Successful completion leads to a range of Monash University degree and double degree courses. COURSE STRUCTURE MIAP is offered in collaboration with Monash College. You will complete two Monash College Units and one faculty-specific unit. The Monash College units are an academic writing unit and a maths unit. The faculty unit will be selected based on your preferred destination course. There are minimum pass requirements for each of the completed units depending on the course you re entering. On successful completion and after meeting the required faculty requirements and average mark, you ll be awarded entry into your chosen Monash course with credit for one or two units, depending on the course. The Monash Enabling Program allowed me to develop my academic skills in reviewing statistical data, and writing university-grade academic essays, at the beginning of my Education degree. I really enjoyed being part of the program, and found it was a great way for me to start university without becoming overwhelmed. So many amazing opportunities have opened for me and I am grateful that I get to be part of the Indigenous and student community at Monash. NATASHA WARD Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Science Natasha Ward successfully completed the Monash Indigenous Access Program and is now enrolled in a double degree in Education and Science. When she finishes this degree, Natasha is looking forward to becoming a biology teacher in a secondary school. 9

12 MONASH INDIGENOUS ENTRY SCHEME Refer to the VTAC guide for course locations 3 or 4 years Depending on course February Semester 1 $ You will be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place for these courses. You can then defer your payment through the HECS-HELP loan scheme. The Monash Indigenous Entry Scheme provides an entry point for Indigenous Australian applicants into a range of courses with an achieved ATAR of 50+. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You can apply if you: are of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) descent; and achieve a minimum ATAR or equivalent of (60.00 for Bachelor of Radiation Science) satisfy all prerequisites as listed in the VTAC guide complete the Monash University Supplementary Information Form. COURSE STRUCTURE Students entering via the Indigenous Entry Scheme will complete the standard Monash degree alongside the wider cohort with the option of internal transfer into a range of specialist degrees and double degree programs. There are no special classes, time added or extra requirements. 13 SINGLE UNIVERSITY UNITS Available at all Monash campuses, depending on subject On-campus 5 months Part-time February Semester 1 July Semester 2 If you have not completed any formal qualification at senior secondary level or above but can demonstrate preparedness to undertake university study, or if you have completed your secondary schooling with the required ATAR but do not have the prerequisite(s) for your preferred course, single university units may be suitable for you. $ Single university units are full-fee-paying. No Commonwealth Supported Places are available. Applicants who have completed secondary schooling but did not meet the required ATAR may also choose to undertake single university units to increase their chances of being admitted into a course. However, this is not a guaranteed pathway as selection decisions will be based on your whole academic history, including your secondary schooling and higher education results. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must have completed your final four years of secondary schooling in English. Additional requirements vary depending on the subject you are taking. You may be required to undertake an internal assessment or sit a test. If you did not complete or achieve the required score in Year 12 English, one of the single university units undertaken must be an English-rich unit. When you successfully complete a unit you ll receive a statement of results that can then be used for applications for further study within a five-year period. Depending on the degree you choose, you could also gain credits for the units you have completed. Single units are available on a fee-paying basis only. COURSE STRUCTURE By completing at least two single units, you may be eligible for entry into a large range of undergraduate courses. We encourage you to take units that relate to the course you would like to study and consult the relevant faculty of your destination course. A 60 per cent average in single units is usually required to be competitive in selection for entry into a degree course. 11

14 TAFE/VET PATHWAYS Monash recognises vocational qualifications from providers across Australia and also has priority partnerships and formal articulation pathways with selected Victorian TAFE institutes. If you have successfully completed a certificate IV, diploma or the first year of an advanced diploma, you could qualify for a place at Monash University and be eligible for some credit towards your course for any graded TAFE/VET studies you have completed.
