3 SIXTH FORM DRESS CODE Students in the Sixth Form at Beths provide a role model to the rest of the school and as such, are expected to dress smartly at all times during the school day, and on the way to and from school, to reflect their senior status. Sixth form dress code for both male and female students must therefore be appropriate for a Formal business environment. Ladies Tailored suit trousers and matching suit jacket Casual trousers such as shorts, ¾ length trousers, Jeans, Jeggings, legging, or tight fitted trousers of any kind are not permitted Suit skirt and matching suit jacket Skirt should be no shorter than knee length leather/pu/biker jackets are not acceptable Smart shirt/blouse, or round necked top of a sensible cut No sleeveless; low cut; vest/strappy or hooded tops School tie (Sixth Form tie or Prefect tie. Optional during the school day but must be worn for formal school occasions with appropriate shirt) Tights/stockings must be plain with no patterns Knee length socks are not permitted Plain dark smart shoes No trainer types, boots or canvas shoes Light, subtle makeup may be worn One discreet stud or small ring per ear may be worn Other visible body piercings, expanders and tattoos are not permitted Hair colour and style must be appropriate for school Gentlemen Smart suit (ie matching jacket and trousers, tight-fitting or casual trousers are not permitted ) Office style shirt with collar and school tie Either a Sixth Form tie or Prefect tie A plain V neck jumper/pullover may be worn under the jacket but not instead of a jacket Hooded tops may not be worn under suit jackets as a replacement for jumpers/pullovers Plain socks and dark shoes No trainer types, boots or canvas shoes One discreet stud or small ring per ear may be worn Other visible body piercings, expanders and tattoos are not permitted Hair colour and style must be appropriate for school General: o Suit jackets must be worn by ALL students. o Suit jackets must be formal without zips. Casual/sports jackets and coats are not to be worn in place of suit jackets. o Logos are not permitted on any item of clothing o Hats and headscarves are not permitted in school.

4 Registration & Lessons Students need to be in their tutor base at each day, regardless of when their first lesson begins. If a student misses registration unless and explanation is given, this is recorded as unexplained absence. Students who are persistently late, will be given lates detention If a student is absent from P1 (and is also absent from am registration) a text message is sent out to parents. There are six, fifty minute teaching periods during the school day At the start of each period, a register is taken by subject staff Failure to register results in unauthorised absence Study Periods If students do not have a timetabled lesson, this is a study period Students may refer to free periods they are not Students must remain on site for study periods Students are expected to work independently and productively during study periods in the Sixth Form Centre During each study period, students need to ensure that they register themselves by signing in in the Sixth Form Centre Conduct in study periods Year 12 Sixth Form Centre is the designated study space for Year 12 You are expected to work during each study period For each period, you need to have some work out, or something to read In the first instance, you will work in the Sixth Form Centre, where you will be registered at the start of each period/each double period This is a near-silent work area If you wish to discuss school work, you can do so quietly, whilst being respectful of others around you Purposeful, low level, low disturbance learning conversations are acceptable providing they do not disturb the learning of others You can use mobile devices including phones for work purposes, provided you are not distracting others You can listen to music (using headphones) provided you are not distracting others You can use the vending machines during study periods and can drink and eat, providing you do not disturb others You can choose to study in other areas of the school, for example to work together on group presentations, providing there are work spaces available: You can use the LRC to study providing there is available space (the LRC is a quiet work area which is the main work space for Y13) If you use the LRC, you register in there You can book meeting rooms for groups of up to 4 or, classrooms for groups of up to 6, using the online booking system

5 If members of staff are in the classrooms you have booked, ask if it is OK to work in there as you arrive if there are problems see Miss Burrell or Mrs Alexander Where IT rooms are available for Sixth Formers, register in there with a member of staff If you wish to work with subject specific staff, you need to register firstly in the Sixth form Centre before you go Remember, if you book other areas to work in, you are responsible for that area, should there be any damage or complaints about the conduct of those working there What should students be doing out of lesson time Some examples include: Working on assessed work Working on coursework or controlled conditions work Preparing for tests and timed essays Reviewing work covered in previous lessons, for example making notes/annotations, mind maps, working on contact they have found challenging etc. Preparing for lessons Researching subject/topics/content Researching university options and career choices Working with subject teachers and other members of staff Revising work by using a variety of learning strategies to help remember and understand subject content Working through exam papers, reading mark schemes and examiners reports Commitment to school We expect the same commitment (and hours) from students as they would give to as a full-time job We expect students to undertake a minimum of 5 hours per subject per week of additional study Part-time employment Can be good because it develops all sorts of skills important to working life Please watch the number of hours and days we advise no more than 12 hours per week in parttime employment Must not be during normal school hours Remember that paid work commitments come secondary to school commitments. Being a Sixth Former is a full-time job in its own right! 6 Exam Board Websites OCR - Pearson/Edxcel - AQA Unit specifications (syllabus) Specimen papers Past papers Mark schemes Examiners reports Fronter learning platform: All students have their own unique log-on. Their Form Tutor can issue them with this, or they can speak to Mrs Sircom in the Sixth Form Study Centre. ShowMyHomework: All students have their own unique PIN and parents will have an activation code for each student (on role). Students PINs can be obtained via Form Tutors parents will have been ed their activation codes. More information on ShowMyHomework can also be found on the school s website under the information tab. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Students in Years 12 and 13 now have: Wireless access to our ICT systems in school Remote access to a desktop and some installed applications through a system called RDP. In addition, Office 365 is available to all students either as an app or as a download that can be installed on a mobile device and machines at home. Full instructions for implementing this development are available to students on our system in: Start/all programs/student information/byod. This information is also available for all students from within Fronter, in the Student Information Room. BOYD Code of Conduct This code of conduct has been developed by Beths students, for Beths students. 1. Use your device and relevant applications as directed by your teacher within the agreed time frame. 2. Leave your device on the table when in use. 3. You are being trusted with access to the internet- don t abuse it. 4. You will be expected to bring our device charged to lessons. If any charging is required then this must be done with your teacher s prior permission. 5. When you are asked to put your device away, put it away, no questions asked. 6. You have been given this privilege, so don t waste valuable learning time!

It is an important event as aims to equip parents/carers with the information and resources they need to help guide their son/daughter successfully through their A levels studies at Beths. Fri 15th Sept Y12 School Photos For ALL Y12 students. Please note: female students need to wear their Sixth Form tie. Tues 17th Oct 4-8pm Open evening for Y6 parents Some Y12 students may be asked to assist with this. Tues 1st Nov pm Tues 7th Nov pm (one of two evenings) Tues 21st Nov pm (two of two evening) Top Universities Information Evening Sixth Form Information Evening (for students new to Beths) Sixth Form Information Evening (for current Y11 Beths students) Y12 students who are considering applying for highly selective universities (such as Oxbridge or Russell group) and/or for highly competitive courses (e.g. Medicine, Law, Psychology, Computer Science etc.) - are required to attend this event. Information will be provided to help students make successful applications. Our Y12 students will be required to support this event to assist with guiding current Y11 students and their parents around the school site. Friday 15th Dec Interim report issued To all Year 12 students Tues 19th Dec from 7pm Presentation Evening If you are receiving an award (for Y11 ) you will be required to attend this event in full uniform Wed 20th Dec End of summer term Jan 2018 Y12 Trial exams For all Y12 students. Date TBC. Further details will be issued nearer the time Thurs 8th Feb from 4pm Year 12 Parents Evening Students should make individual appointments with subject teachers so that you may discuss their progress Throughout the Spring Term Prefect Selection process Students are nominated (by staff) for Prefect and House Captain posts and interviews are held for Senior Prefect positions. The new Y12 Prefect teams will be in place by the end of the Spring term. April 2018 UCAS Convention (London) Exact date TBC and further details to follow. All Y12 students will be expected to attend the London UCAS Convention at ExCel centre. Fri 29th March Interim report issued To all Year 12 students. Mon 16th April New Y12 Prefects New Prefects take over perfecting duties for one year. Thurs 3rd May pm Information Evening for prospective Y12s (new to Beths) All (current) Y12 Prefects are expected to be on duty at this event. Other Y12 students are welcome to volunteer their support. W/C 14th May GCE Exams begin AS and A level examinations begin. Further details will be issued nearer the time. Mid June PHSCE sessions Introduction to writing Personal Statements W/C 18th Jun (sometime during Sports Day Actual date TBC House Captains and Senior Prefects will play an important role in the organisation and running. this week) Tues 26th & Wed Induction for The Y12 Prefect team and House Captains will be on duty on both days 27th June incoming Y12s Fri 6th July Full Report Issued To all Y12 students Thurs 12th July (evening event pm) W/C Mon 16th Jul Thurs 16 Aug 10am The Higher Education & Careers Event throughout the day and evening HE & Careers Enrichment Week Log-on, preparation and workshops AS and A level Results Day Held at school. An important event designed to assist all Y12 students with decisions about their post- A level choices. All students will be in appropriate workshops throughout the day and are also expected to attend the evening fair, with their parents wherever possible. During the final week of term, all Y12 students will attend a log on session for UCAS Apply2019 (details issued nearer the time) and workshops across both Higher Education and careers/iag related areas. More information will be forwarded via to parents/carers nearer the time.

Thurs 15 Aug (TBC) A level results day! This date is TBC by the exam boards. Make sure you are there. Universities accept offers for those students achieving entry grades, for those who have missed grades, clearing opens.
