6 PREFACE The Self-Study Report for re-accreditation is a result of hardwork and sincere efforts made by the faculty members for collecting, compilling and quantifying the data as per NAAC requirements. The SSR report contains information about Sardar Bhagwan Singh Post Graduate Institute of Biomedical Sciences & Research, under two major categories namely Institutional Data and Evaluation Report. Part I of the report includes the profile of the Institution and Executive Summary, while Part II consists of Criterion-wise, Departmental Evaluation Report and Annexures. SBSPGI, governed by the society, Gaurav Bharti Shiksha Sansthan, was established in the year 1994 and is the pioneer in offering the professional education in the field of Biomedical Sciences in the region. Since its inception, the Institute has constantly worked towards raising the academic standards of the students. The Institute is committed for providing an array of academic and student development services that supports students success in attaining their academic, cultural and civic achievements. With two decades of excellence in the field of Biomedical Sciences, the Institute has taken a giant leap in terms of growth by addition of number of courses offered at UG and PG level, students and faculty profiles, co-curricular activities and extra-curricular programs. Growth in every sphere of activity is visible in the performance of the students and well placed alumuni. The Institute is affiliated with HNB Garhwal University (Central University) and Uttarakhand Technical University and plays a leading role in transforming the students to think and act as the global citizens and build comprehensive, thriving community. The Institute is very well aware with the change in dimensions and quality of education with the change in time globally. To value and foster the superior levels of educational participation and academic excellence among the students, a critical evaluation of the feedback generated from students, globally placed alumuni, parents, IQAC, researchers, Academic-Industry experts is being done. The regular inspections conducted by the affiliating Universities, AICTE, PCI and contributions made by the previous IQAC conveners Late Prof. B.R. Panhotra and Prof F.C. Garg and previous NAAC Peer team have also greatly contributed to our growth. We were granted Grade B by the previous NAAC Peer team in 2011 and have endeavoured to implement their recommendations. Our present SSR is a culmination of our sincere efforts towards this end and we look towards this end and we look forward to a rewarding interaction with the NAAC Peer Team to reaccredit our Institute. 7 DIRECTOR`S REPORT It gives me immense pleasure while submitting the Self Study Report of SBS Post Graduate Institute of Biomedical science & Research, to NAAC for reaccreditation. This report has been prepared under the able leadership of our IQAC coordinator- Prof Versha Parcha, who along with her team comprising of teaching staff members have collected, analyzed and articulated all our records and activities listed in the seven criterions for the last five years. The staff involved in the preparation of SSR, met regularly as the drafts of the report were being prepared. I am grateful to all faculties involved in the preparation of this report and putting their best. We have made humongous efforts to implement the recommendation given by the last Peer Team in 2011 and I am sure we have been quite successful. We started the additional courses at Post Graduate level- M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, and Pharmacology) in 2011 recognized by U.T.U and M.Sc. Chemistry in 2012 affiliated with H.N.B Garhwal University and recently got permission to start three additional courses i.e B.Sc. Sciences (PCM & PCB) and B.Com. Since the last of NAAC Peer Team, the Institute has adopted policies to show a significant change in teaching learning process, infrastructures development, student support, extension activities and much more. These changes were in accordance with our vision Bringing Science to Society. The Institute has increased the support system teaching- learning in terms of providing Wi-Fi enabled campus. Smart class, Smart boards, LCD Projectors have been installed in various class rooms with newly developed IT Laboratory and new library facility has been incorporated to enrich the learning experiences. We are happy to state the best practices indentified being are- emphasis on practical and continous evaluation, punctuality and discipline along with achievements made by all the department. Nine national and regional symposium/seminars were organized, 22 National workshops and 3 International workshops were organized by Department of Physiotherapy. As a part of Mandate of Institute the faculty members have completed 7 research projects funded by external State & National funding agencies while 2 research projects are going on. Out of this research outcome the faculty and students have been suitably rewarded at regional and national levels. As a part of our social responsibility, our continuing outreach program schedules have received commendation from various sources. The Students won laurels at various extension services like NCC, Blood Donation, Rotracted, tree plantation, safe Drinking water campaign, SSR NAAC Cycle 2 SBS PG Institute, Dehradun Page 7

8 cleanness drive, traffic awareness project to name a few. As a part of students support, numbers of scholarship schemes have been implemented viz. Tuition fee waiver, NGOs Financial support, Scholarship for under privileged and meritorious students. As a part of our, infrastructural growth process, we have added new physiotherapy block, increase in the green cover of the Institute as well as the parking area for both student and faculty. We are keen to meet the Peer Team of NAAC during their forthcoming visit to our Institute. Such interactions provide all of us including faculty members, supporting staff and students to enrich with their expert comments and suggestion. 9 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Sardar Bhagwan Singh (P.G.) Institute of Biomedical Sciences & Research, Dehradun, governed by `Gaurav Bharti Shiksha Sansthan`, a society registered under the societies act, was established in the year It is one of the pioneer institutes offering professional education in the field of Biomedical Sciences. Since its inception the Institute has constantly worked towards raising the academic standards of the students in view of the vision of the Institute `Bringing Science to the Society`. The NAAC Peer Team visited the Institute in May 2011, from 20 to 22 May for Assessment and Accreditation under first cycle. The Institute was awarded B Grade, securing CGPA of 2.90/4.00. However, the Institute was awarded CGPA of 3.2/ 4.0 in Infrastructure and Learning Resources and 3.3/ 4.0 in Students Support and Progression equivalent to A grade. Since then the Institute IQAC under the guidance of Management, chairmanship of its Director and cooperation of Faculty has made all efforts to enhance the quality of education with regard to all parameters set by NAAC. An overview of the criterion-wise analysis of the Institute in the last five years is given below: I. Curricular Aspects The Institute is a self-financed Institute and all courses are affiliated to HNBGU Srinagar or UTU, Dehradun. As per need of time and public demand, the Institute has introduced several new courses, namely M. Pharma (Pharmacology, Pharmacogonosy and Pharmaceutics), M. Sc. (Chemistry), B. Sc. (PCM), B. Sc. (CBZ) and B. Com. A new Department of Applied Chemistry has been carved out of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in and School of Basic Sciences and Commerce has been newly established recently. Thus, the institute comprises of four faculties viz. School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Life Sciences, School of Allied Health Sciences and School of Basic Sciences and Commerce. A certificate course is being designed and developed by the Department of Physiotherapy as given below: GOODRUM Seminar IACOPT and Sardar Bhagwan Singh Post Graduate Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research, Balawala, Dehradun offered for the first time in India Certification in Osteopathy and Modified Chiropractic Manual Therapy. IACOPT is a group of internationally known teachers conducting manipulative therapy programs all over the world. Dr Robbie Goodrum, Founder and Director of Goodrum Seminars is a Physiotherapist who has done specialization in osteopathy. Goodrum Seminars along with his team of teachers under the brand of IACOPT (Indian Osteopathic Institute) feels proud to reach across professional SSR NAAC Cycle 2 SBS PG Institute, Dehradun Page 9

10 colleagues in India.The Goodrum IACOPT team has expert team of academicians and clinicians. It is a six Month (26 week) course with online weekly teaching. It is an intense training program which is distinctive and combines the best and safest techniques from Osteopathy, Chiropractics, Applied Kinesiology, Myokinetics and Electro-accupunture amalgamating into Physiotherapy and traditional Asian manipulations. The certificate course included the manipulation for the full spine and pelvis using only the best techniques from Modified Osteopathy and Chiropractic and other branches of health sciences. Various faculties of the Institute are actively involved in helping in the preparation of University curriculum. The details are as follows: Prof Versha Parcha is the member of Board of studies, HNBGU for M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Chemistry representing as senior member from Uttrakhand. Prof. Veerma Ram is member of Board of Studies at UTU for B. Pharmacy. Ms. Urmi Chaurasia is member of Board of Studies at UTU for B. Pharmacy. Prof Maneesh Arora is member Board of studies HNBGU Physiotherapy. Prof Sanjay Gupta is member Board of Studies at HNBGU for Biotechnology and Biochemistry. HNB Garhwal University often invites suggestions for the modification of the syllabi from various HODs. Every year various faculty members are actively involved in the preparation of university question papers of HNBGU & UTU in their relevant field of expertise. Many of the faculty members of the Institute act as an external examiner for university examinations. II. Teaching-Learning and Evaluation The effective implementation of the curriculum is done by firstly adhering to the academic calendar provided by the affiliating Universities and preparing academic calendar of the Institute on the guidelines provided. The same is printed and circulated to faculty members and uploaded on the website. Each department prepares the time table and on the basis of the same the faculty members prepare the schedule of lectures and practicals which is circulated among students. This apprises the students in advance of the topic/practical to be conducted that helps them in understanding the lectures and performing the practicals smoothly thereby aiding in fulfilling proper functioning of teaching and learning process and timely completion of syllabus. For effective implementation of curriculum regular assignments, seminars, workshops are conducted. Tutorial classes are included in the time table wherein the difficulty related to the subject of students are solved. SSR NAAC Cycle 2 SBS PG Institute, Dehradun Page 10

11 Guest lectures by eminent personalities are conducted and students frequently visit industries, research centers, institutions where they gain exposure on the recent developments in research & industry. The monitoring of the academic curriculum is carried out by meetings with the Head, faculty members. Class committee meetings are held at regular intervals to find out the problems faced by students and accordingly solving the same. The students are encouraged to attend and give presentations in conferences of national and international repute in seminars and symposia. Teachers` diaries are maintained by the faculty wherein record of the details of classes and other activities are maintained. A week for the Institute is introduced in the Institute to help the students to interact with faculty from different Departments. The Director and Management holds meeting with faculty members to monitor the progress of the teaching learning process. Monthly Progress of teaching is monitored. Class committee meetings with class representatives are held and feedback from students is taken. Analysis of feedback from students and stake holders is being carried out by the management and concerned faculty is apprised of the same. Internal Quality Assurance Cell tries its best to ensure quality in the Course curriculum implementation and to get effective results. A good number of students have qualified for NET, SLET, GATE and JRF examination while others are well placed in various jobs in higher education, defense services, industries etc. Twenty five students have obtained Ph. D degrees under the supervision of our faculty. The Institute has consistently upgraded its labs by equipping them with modern instruments and software etc. In comparison to 2011, there are more, well equipped labs, computers, smart boards, LCD projectors, inverters, water purifiers in the Institute. Newly formed Department of Applied Chemistry has been equipped with better facilities providing new instruments and more teaching staff. Laboratories in Departments of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physiotherapy and Medical Microbiology & MLT have been upgraded. Twenty eight CCTV cameras in examination hall, Puran Singh Block and administrative Block, admission cell and main gate have been installed. Biometric machines to monitor punctuality have also been installed. The teachers attend, faculty development programs refresher courses, seminars to learn the latest techniques in their respective fields and update their knowledge. 12 changes in the syllabus to meet the demand. The teachers effectively translate the curriculum and improve their teaching with support of books and journals and e journals available in the Institute library. They also do net surfing through the available internet in Institute. The grants received from various bodies like UCOST, NMPB, DST etc. helps in upgrading the laboratories with equipments/chemicals etc. The facility of delivering the lectures through power point or OHP helps the faculty to effectively implement teaching. III. Research, Consultancy and Extension During last five years, the faculty has been granted 9 projects. Out of these, 7 projects have been completed and 2 are ongoing. The number of publications by faculty has increased significantly during this period. During , more than 360 research papers, 25 book chapters have been published. Few of the faculty members have filled patents for their innovations in the respective research areas. Mr. Manoj Kumar Sarangi (Asstt. Prof. Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences) has filed a patent on to Indian patent office, New Delhi. (Application no: 408/DEL/2013). A Patent has been applied to UCOST IPR division by Dr Versha Parcha, Dr. Alok Maithaini and Dr Gaurav Deep Singh on Development of Antidiabetic polyherbal formulation from medicinal plants of Garhwal Himalayas on 25 Dec A Patent has been applied to Intellectual Property Rights India by Dr. Veerma Ram and others, on Anti diabetic composition of fractions of the fresh cow urine and process for the same (Journal No.-42/2012). A Patent has been applied to Intellectual Property India by Dr. Veerma Ram and others on Antiinflammatory agents, compositions and process for preparing the same. (Journal No.- 32/2012). A Patent has been applied to Intellectual Property India by Dr. Veerma Ram and others on Antioxidant and Hepatoprotective Potential of Residue of Cow Urine and Process for the same (Application no. 1787/DEL/2011). A Provisional Patent on Anti-diabetic agents, compositions and process for preparing same. Filed on 25th March, 2014, by Dr. Veerma Ram and others. For recognition in the area of active research, few faculty members have been conferred with the ``Young Scientist Award``as Dr. Neetu Pandey (2012), Department of Applied Chemistry; Dr. Mamta F. Singh (2015), Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Dr. Vikash Singh Jadon (2016), Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. Besides this, more than 50 students and faculties have been awarded with prestigious recognitions in conferences and symposia. IV. Infrastructure and Learning Recourses We have a total of 25 acres of covered area for the academic campus nestling 29 classrooms SSR NAAC Cycle 2 SBS PG Institute, Dehradun Page 12

13 equipped with modern teaching aids, 44 laboratories with State- of -the- art facilities, 4 seminar halls with projection facilities for screening of powerpoint presentations, short videos, and documentation to enrich the classroom experience. The newly constructed fully air conditioned library with floor area of over 366 sq. mtrs. has been added to the existing facilities. It has open access system and is organized into various sections manned by qualified library professionals. The library is enriched with books besides 70 e-journals and over 28 selected current National and International periodical. The library has a reading room with seating capacity of more than 200 students. The library is computerized and supported by LIBMAN software. V. Student Support and Progression The Institute do give due consideration to ensure social justice and empower students from under-privileged and vulnerable sections of society. Some of the activities undertaken by the Institute are: Tuition Fee Waiver Economically weaker students from Himjyoti School, Dehradun are given admission under Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme of the Institute. NGOs The Institute help the students by contacting NGOs for financial support for education. (I Care, New Delhi; Hans Cultural Center, New Delhi). In addition the Institute provides Fee Concession also. Scholarship to School Children - The Institute provide scholarships to school children of Doiwala Constituency. Besides these provisions, Institute provides the scholarship to the meritorious students as the part of admission process. TA / DA / transport to students Students to participate in various competitions/national and International, Medical assistance to students in terms of health centre, health insurance, Organizing coaching classes for competitive exams, personality development classes and computer orientation classes, Tutorials and extra classes by the faculty members are conducted, a week for the students is another facility available to the students, Educational tours, Visits to industries, Institutes of higher learning, Clinical Laboratories and Multi-specialty Hospitals as a part of the curriculum, Institute publications as Annual Student Magazine Endeavour (Annually) and institute newsletter SBS Times (Monthly) is published. Placements are benchmark to the performance of any institute and it depicts the success and the growth of the institutions. The Placement office of SBSPGI plays a vital role and is gradually becoming a key department of the institute. The Training & Placement Office of our Institute plays a pivotal role in counseling and guiding the students for their successful career placement. Any good Institute measures its worth by its alumni. 14 5.5 lakhs and an Ambulance for providing emergency medical support. Besides this Alumni members are constantly engaged in helping in organizing (on campus and off campus) recruitment sessions in various organizations. Alumni members both from the academics and industry constantly visit the institute for updating students with latest trends in research & industry. Any suggestions in modifications of laboratory curriculum as advised by alumni are modified by the concerned Department. VI. Governance, Leadership and Management The Institute is governed by Gaurav Bharati Shiksha Sansthan comprising of Board of Governors, Chairman and Managing Secretary and is managed with the help of Director, HODs and other Administrative personnel. Regular meetings between the Director and the top Management are held where important decisions are taken and policies are framed. Director holds meetings with HODs to convey the policy decisions of the management. Committees for conducting admission, academic coordination, smooth conduct of examination, promotion of research and development, extra co-culler activities etc are constituted for overall management of the institute. There is involvement of maximum faculty members in these committees. The Director has vital role in framing appropriate action plans and implementation of policy and for fulfillment of the stated mission of the college. For this, a meeting of all the teaching and non teaching staff of the college in the beginning of academic session is conducted. He also apprises them about the new policy decisions, if any, of the management as well as those of the government. He gives instructions as to how the action plans formulated for the coming academic session are to be implemented. Throughout the academic session, he monitors the stepwise implementation of the plans by regularly interacting with teachers and through the means of feedback received from students and other stakeholders. The IQAC of the Institute was constituted on 3/8/2010. It comprises of a total of 17 members as Alumuni-2, students-2, Faculty-6, Administrative Staff-2, Technical, Employee/Industrialist 2, Management representative-1, External experts-1 and community representative-1.the IQAC works on the guidelines provided by NAAC. The IQAC works for the motivation of faculty members, up gradation of their knowledge by attending conferences, seminars etc, publishing the research papers, improve teaching learning process by usage of AV aids and multimedia, it also collects, maintains and analyses feedback received from all stakeholders and informs the concerned persons and attempts to improve upon the short comings. IQAC further provides supports to conduct workshops, special lecture series, research oriented seminars, applying for research grants and projects, ICT management, plans and implementation of advanced learning resources, suggestions for empowerment of staff members. It plans effective implementation for consultancy and extension activities for all SSR NAAC Cycle 2 SBS PG Institute, Dehradun Page 14

15 stakeholders. It prepares the Annual Qualtiy Assurance Report (AQAR) and submits it to the NAAC office. VII. Innovation and Best Practices The Institute is well aware of environment and make all efforts to bring awareness among the students and staff relating to Environment Consciousness in the campus such as energy conservation, use of renewable energy, recycling of waste, efforts for carbon neutrality, plantation etc. In order to promote environment consciousness, the Institute also organizes lectures on environmental issues. The two best practices have contributed to the achievement of the Institutional Objectives and/or contributed to the Quality improvement of the core activities of the Institute are: Emphasis on Practicals & Continuous Evaluation- The students are given free approach to the equipment and chemicals. They can repeat the practical any number of times. The Teacher concerned evaluates the students performance on day to day basis. Punctuality and Discipline- The Institute gives emphasis on Punctuality and Discipline from day one. Describing S. Gurcharan Singh Ji as a mere founder of SBSPGI would be ignoring his fine personality. With clear vision & focus, he pursued his dreams till the last day of his life. He knew that people are motivated to perform when they have a clear understanding of the purpose and meaning of a task or activity. As a visionary leader, he provided this purpose and meaning by developing his vision and then communicating it to his team. His task in the educational field started with the foundation of the Institute in the year 1994 with the objective of providing excellence in professional education, to make one's life worthy of emulation. This reflection is well seen in his achievements in the twin worlds of social development and education which are perhaps unsurpassed in recent history. For effective implementation of curriculum regular assignments, seminars, workshops are conducted. Tutorial classes are included in the time table wherein the difficulty related to the subject of students are solved. Guest lectures by eminent personalities are conducted and students frequently visit industries, research centers, institutions to where they gain exposure on the latest trends of their profession. The monitoring of the academic curriculum is carried out by meetings with the Head, faculty members. Class committee meetings are held at regular intervals to find out the problems faced by students and accordingly solving the same. The students are encouraged to attend and give presentations in conferences of national and international repute in seminars and symposiums. Range of Core/Elective options offered by the University and those opted by the college: As per University provision of academic flexibility, there is semester system in UG and PG Programs and CBCS pattern in 18 Programs. Climate Change & Environmental Education: Environmental Studies Course is compulsory for all students at undergraduate level and they have to pass Environmental Science paper in part-ii of their UG class. Besides this, the Institute has a `Nature Club which keeps organizing seminars on conservation of Nature. Various competitions such as Floral Rangoli, Flower arrangement, are also organized to sensitize students towards environmental issues. The Institute actively participates in the `Vasantmahotsav. organized every year at Rajbhawan and has secured many awards from the same. Apart from this, the college has put into practice what it teaches and propagates.the Girls & Boys hostel building of the college has solar heating system which is highlyenvironment friendly. Hot water from solar heating system is also used in thehostel kitchen for cooking. Students are encouraged to plant trees and keep the campus polythene and tobacco free. b. Environmental Education A survey of plant bio-diversity has been conducted in the Institute campus by Nature Club consisting of a team of students and faculty members. There are more than 1434 plants comprising of ornamental, fruit, medicinal trees and shrubs etc. in the campus. In addition more than annual flowering plants are grown in pots and lawns. (Appendix XI) The Institute has lush green lawns in an area of sq. mtrs. The Institute has taken constructive steps to save power consumption by motivating students, faculty and other staff. Some of the measures adopted are summarized below. Awareness programs - the students as well as teachers are now are aware about the need to conserve energy. They voluntarily minimize the use of energy-gobbling equipments such as heater, hot Water rod, warm air blower etc. and promptly switch off fans, lights and other power equipments when not required. Power saving lights CFL or LED lights are used to conserve power. Solar heater Solar heaters have been deployed to heat water in both the hostels. Computers Traditional monitors have been replaced with LED monitors to save energy. Use of Generator - Though generators have been employed in the Institute as well as both the hostels but are used only in emergency. The institute has its own tube wells in the hostels and Institute. To minimize wastage of water, damaged pipes and faulty taps are replaced from time to time. Some of the measures employed to save water are: For irrigation of lawns, sprinkle irrigation technique is used. For watering the flowering plants drip irrigation is employed. All the irrigation water channels are made of concrete. Rain water harvesting tank has been constructed in campus II Another such water harvesting tank is proposed to be constructed in the Institute. 41 The Institute propagates the importance of energy conservation by educating the staff and students to turn off the fans and lights in hostel and college whenever not needed. Some energy saving measures employed in our college are using solar water heater, gradually replacing luminescent lights by LED and CFL bulbs and keeping computers shut off, when not in use. From 2011 onwards, computers with LCD monitors only have been purchased which consume less power. All old monitors have also been replaced with LED monitors. All classrooms and laboratories in the Institute are well ventilated and designed in a manner that natural light is available to the maximum extent that also helps in saving energy. The Institute premise has a large catchment area of sq. mtrs. where rain water is collected during the monsoon which recharges the groundwater, replenishing the wells that provides water in the campus throughout the year. A water harvesting tank is proposed to be constructed in the Institute premises in near future. There is no scope of construction of check dam near the Institute. All efforts have been made to prevent carbon pollution in the campus. A separate ground near the campus boundary has been allocated for parking of all the vehicles. This helps in keeping the campus pollution free as much as possible. The dead leaves and the waste papers are not allowed to be put on fire. Instead the plant waste is put in the pits and biodegraded. The Institute is located far away from industrial area. LPG is used in various departments for practical classes and in the hostels forcooking. The Institute has a well maintained garden in which different types of flowering and non flowering seasonal and perennial plants are maintained. Tree plantation programs are organized regularly to further enrich the greenery in the campus. In the last three years, the Institute has planted a large number of ornamental trees, fruit trees and hedge plants. The institute planted and distributed saplings of fruit trees (Lemon, Katahal, Guava, Mango, Neem etc.) in the surrounding area in the year A new herbal garden has also been developed in the Institute. The Institute organized a MAHUA day on and distributed 5 quintals seeds of Mahua to the Forest Department and public and also prepared samplings. Waste is separated at source into biodegradable, non bio degradable and hazardous waste. Hazardous waste of biological origin is sterilized in an autoclave before disposal. 42 . c. Human Rights: Leaf litter and plant waste is dumped and degraded into manure. So far, there is no e- waste in the Institute. All the computers and other electronic appliances like printer, television, and refrigerator etc. are in working order. Those which are not in use have not been disposed and are lying in the store. The Institute is a Sikh Minority self financed Institute and thus give preference to the minority students in admissions. The Institute has always been providing scholarships to meritorious and economically underprivileged students. The NCC cadets of the Institute tutor children from nearby localities in one to one interaction of weaker sections. The Proctoral Board of the Institute looks into the matters related to violation of Human Rights. Blood Donation Camps are organized every year in collaboration with IMA- Blood Bank to help the poor and needy. Talks on teachings of Sikh Gurus delivered to educate the students about moral ethics. Besides, the Institute has a prayer room in both girls and boys hostel and a Gurudwara in the Institute campus. For holistic development of the students, the college has girls and boys units of NCC. A large number of under graduate students are the members of NCC. Weekly programs and special camps, eminent environmentalists are invited for talks. Besides this, the students are also told about the lives of great leaders like Swami Vivekanand, Mahatma Gandhi, Maharani Laxmi Bai, B.R. Ambedkar and others on various occasions and essay competitions are also being organized on their biography. They make optimum use of knowledge resources available to them in terms of library, computer and internet etc. They develop, share and effectively use knowledge among themselves for betterment of teaching. They also upgrade their knowledge by attending various seminars, conferences etc. Selection, development and use of enrichment materials Assessment Institute being affiliated to HNBGU and UTU is not mandated to frame its own curriculum however special lectures are taken by senior members of the institute on certain important topics which are being suggested by student, teacher, stakeholder, industry personals and research organization heads during interactions and meetings with them so as to make students ready for upcoming demands in their profession which ultimately leads to their absorption in various fields. Most of the faculty members are involved in evaluation work of the university as paper setters, evaluators, invigilators and supervisors. 69 National tobacco Cell of Government of Uttarakhand organized a Nuked Natak for awareness on National tobacco control program and also conducted health check up on 19 th March 2016 Magic Show Red Cross society of Uttarakhand organized a magic show for bringing awareness of Aid and female feticide on 7 th april Stress Management Uttarakhand Technical University,Doon Medical College and PARI foundation held a workshop on prevention of stress and drug abuse on 8 th April National Pharmacy Week National Pharmacy Week were celebrated to bring awareness among the students of the Institute and nearby localities by organizing rallies and distributing pamphlets. The theme were as follows: 2014 Responsible Use of Medicines Responsible Use of Antibiotics saves Lives Audio visual aids No formal training has been organized by the college on multimedia as such. However the teachers upgrade their knowledge regarding ICT by themselves. 71 A Performa consisting of 10 questions. Five parameters is used for the feedback from the students. Five students from each paper are required to fill the Performa confidentially. In addition overall impression of the teacher with regard to regularity, method of teaching and audibility etc is also given by students. The IQAC collects the filled feedback from UG and PG students. The information collected are satisfactorily analyzed. Based on this the average marks of each teacher is determined and the teacher concerned is cautioned. The inputs obtained are used to take necessary steps and to improvise the overall competency of the institution In general, the feedback for the year under report was found to be satisfactory. 2.5 Evaluation Process and Reforms How does the institution ensure that the stakeholders of the institution especially students and faculty are aware of the evaluation processes? The Institute has full flagged examination section with Controller of Examination and assisting staff. All notifications, & website information regarding new examination schemes are being sent to the COE by affiliating University. Also from time to time university conducts meetings to make faculty aware about the recent reforms in evaluation processes. The teachers apprise the students of the evaluation methods /processes in detail in the beginning of the session itself, Under the Semester system introduced in 2011, weightage assigned under CGPA system, division of syllabus into units, credits assigned to each unit, scheme of sessional and Term End exams, minimum credits required to pass a course were first disseminated among the Faculty members by the Controller of Exam who then explained to the students. On 19 th September 2015, HNBGU conducted a meeting regarding choice based credit system to be implemented in UG courses in the SBSPGI campus where all officials, COE & teachers from different colleges were made aware of the new pattern of examination. They were then explained before the students by the teachers. New examination pattern changes etc is communicated to other stakeholders by the Directors through meetings, interactions & notifications. College also ensures fee and fair conduct of examination by installing CCTV camera in exam hall. The names of merit position holders in the University are prominently displayed in college website, Notice Boards, monthly newsletter- `SBS TIMES etc. Such meritorious students are felicitated for their performance during Independence Day/Republic Day/Annual Day. The results and of sessional exams are sent to candidates home through post., In PG, courses all the Departments hold class seminars of the students which is evaluated from some minimum marks and the result is displayed on the notice board. The intended Learning outcomes of other co-curricular and extracurricular are also communicated to students from time to time in various functions and even through the newsletter `SBS TIMES so that they understand the importance of developing an all-round personality. The Winners of various cultural/sports/ncc etc. are awarded prizes. The teaching staff is required to fill a self-appraisal form every year at the end of the session in which they are supposed to give an analysis of their subject s result. The institute has not only consistently maintained very good results in university examsbut also fared very well in inter-collegiate sports, cultural events etc., which demonstrates that students have learned to a great extent from the Institute. Many industries come for campus recruitment and we have a good record of the same. The % of campus recruitment varies from course to course.
