1 The Moraga-Orinda Fire District Invites applications for the position of FIREFIGHTER-PARAMEDIC PARAMEDIC EXPERIENCE REQUIRED To be considered for this position, you must successfully pass the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Entry-Level Firefighter Written Exam and be placed on the FCTC statewide list. SALARY RANGE $7,278 - $8,837 per month Salary range includes pay differentials including FLSA, FRA, Holiday and Uniform incentives. Firefighter-Paramedics are classified as Safety members and receive a 2.7% at age 57 (PEPRA) or 50 (Legacy) retirement benefit.

2 THE DISTRICT The Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District is a special, independent district that was formed in 1997, when over 80% of the voters affirmatively voted to form the District. The District has six divisions: Operations, Special Operations, Prevention, Support Services, Training and Administration. These divisions provide a full-range of services, including emergency, non-emergency, service, fire prevention, emergency preparedness and public education. There are 80 employees, which includes the Board of Directors, Administration, Suppression, Support Staff, District Fire Aides, and Communications Volunteers. Full-time suppression personnel are assigned to eight companies, which includes four fire engines, one truck, two medic units, and one command unit. There are five fire stations within the District. The District protects Battalion-4 in West Contra Costa County, encompassing over 42 square miles. The District covers a broad geographic and population base consisting primarily of urban/suburban/semi-rural and rural service areas. Within the District, there are a wide variety of target hazards including portions of the Berkeley-Oakland Hills, several East Bay Regional Parks, three reservoirs, BART, the Caldecott Tunnel, Saint Mary s College, the City of Orinda, Town of Moraga and unincorporated areas of the County. DESCRIPTION OF FIREFIGHTER-PARAMEDIC Firefighter-Paramedics are assigned to the suppression division and perform a wide variety of all-risk tasks including emergency and non-emergency functions. Typical duties include fire suppression; ALS emergency medical services; technical, trench and water rescue; hazardous materials mitigation; fire prevention; public service; and public education. Firefighter-Paramedics are typically assigned to an engine, truck or medic company. The probationary period for Firefighter-Paramedics is 18 months from the date of fulltime employment. As a condition of employment, candidates must successfully obtain and maintain accreditation as a Contra Costa County Paramedic. Candidates must also obtain a California Driver s License with a firefighter endorsement and successfully meet all requirements of the Training Division during the probationary period. Candidates must obtain a current CPAT Card prior to the start of the Firefighter-Paramedic Skills Evaluation.

3 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Each applicant must meet the following required qualifications in order to be considered: Age Education License Paramedic License Paramedic Experience APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application. High school diploma or GED Must possess a current, valid Driver s License and have a satisfactory driving record at the time of application. Must obtain a California Driver s License within 60 days of hire. Must have a valid California EMT-Paramedic License with a current ACLS and a Health Care Provider CPR certification at time of application. Candidates must obtain certifications required by Contra Costa County including PHTLS/ITLS/ATT, PALS/PEPP as a condition of employment. Must have at least one consecutive year full-time, paid experience as a Paramedic in a primary 911 transporting agency at the time of application. The Moraga-Orinda Fire District will receive a list of candidates from the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center. Candidates will be sent an inviting them to complete an application. 4 TESTING PROCESS Based on the ranking of the FCTC statewide list, a selected number of candidates who meet the required qualifications will be invited to an oral interview to establish an eligibility list. Candidate ranking will be based 100% on the oral interview. Following the interview, selected candidates will then be invited to participate in a Firefighter-Paramedic Skills Evaluation (FFPSE). Candidates who successfully complete the FFPSE may be invited to a Chief s Interview. The Fire Chief may then offer selected candidates an opportunity to be evaluated in the field by a District Paramedic Evaluator on a District ambulance. These candidates will be evaluated on a pass-fail basis. During this time, candidates will be paid, temporary (non-benefited) employees of the District. Candidates will not be expected to sever their current employment and the District will reasonably accommodate scheduling conflicts. Candidates who successfully complete the Paramedic Field Evaluations will then be placed on an Employment List. The Fire Chief will make a selection from those on the Employment List when filling positions.
