Psychology and Sociology together comprise about 12% of the BA recipients in SBS s budget is roughly $22 million annually, including roughly $12.2 million for academic salaries, $2.6 million for other salaries, $5.8 million in benefits, and $1.2 million in operating expenses, see CSUN Financial Activity Report: from Data Element 6.3. From the Data Element 6.3 above, we estimate the cost of instruction per FTE at $4500/FTE for Using 2011 FTE data and AA cost of instruction estimates, we calculate $4500 cost for instruction/fte * 5400 FTE = $ 24.3 million The salaries (without benefits) for the SBS comes to roughly $15 million. So in some sense SBS generates income in excess of $9 million for non-academic Affairs divisions. SBS appears to be the most economical of the colleges in terms of the cost per FTE, especially when compared to the College of Education or College of Engineering and Computer Science which have various program constraints. Indeed, SBS is contributing a lot to the financial health and welfare of the entire university. However, some members of UPBG seek information about the impact of efficiencies on SBS lower division students. \

New certificate programs are being offered. External funding increased dramatically with several large grants coming into SBS. Discussion items: 1. How do we study changes in academic quality and student success in classes with rapidly increasing average class size? 2. How do we measure efficiency in operations? How is student learning factored into the measure?
