Recognition of Prior Learning Procedures Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process through which the skills, knowledge and experience that students already have may count towards the achievement of a qualification. RPL involves a formal assessment which focuses on a student s ability to demonstrate that he/she already has the required level of skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements for competency in a unit/s of study within a course offered by SIIT. If the evidence provided by a student clearly proves they already have the skills and knowledge relating to a unit of study, they will receive credit for that unit and not be required to study that unit. When prospective students are deciding whether to apply for RPL, they should look at the course information provided by SIIT, particularly the individual units of study that make up a course. If a student believes they already have the skills and knowledge required of a unit/s of study, they should apply for RPL. SIIT will assess applications for RPL based on: Previous training. Formal study and qualifications or Statements of Attainment gained from another Registered Training Organisation. Practical experience in a work environment. Projects undertaken. Life experiences.
