RESEARCH SCIENTIST American Institutes for Research, Palo Alto, CA Co-Project Director, Evaluation Study: Effects of the Implementation of Proposition 227 on the Education of English Learners, K 12, for the California Department of Education ( ). Directed achievement analyses; oversaw conceptualization and design of analytical approach and statistical analysis of California statewide student-level data particularly analysis of instructional programs offered to English learners and reclassification. Responsibilities also included site visits, classroom observations, and focus groups in Spanish. Managed budgets and Perez - Curriculum Vitae 1

2 staffing, gave professional presentations at conferences and the California Department of Education, made press appearances (Telemundo), and wrote final reports and policy brief. Director of Achievement Analysis, Evaluation Study: High Priority Schools Grant Program (HPSGP), for the California Department of Education (2005). Provided conceptual leadership in the development of the student achievement analysis plan, and of the sampling frame to select low-growth and high-growth HPSGP schools recipients. Director of Achievement Analysis, Evaluation Study: Intermediate Intervention/Underperforming Schools Program (II/USP) for the California Department of Education ( ). Provided conceptual management and leadership for achievement analysis activities performed by junior researchers, including design of student achievement analyses for recipients of the II/USP grant, targeted to schools in program improvement.
