3 SUPPLEMENTAL CONTRACTS KENNETT HIGH Frazier, Elance.Football Coach Level 2 KENNETT MIDDLE Standage, Luke.Assistant Track Coach Level 1 Recommended Motion: That the above personnel items be approved. ) Separation and Release Agreement (Dr. Tomasetti) Recommended Motion: That the Board approve the Separation and Release Agreement with Timothy Haddigan. ) Student Research Study (Dr. Tomasetti) As part of her final project towards a master s degree at West Chester University, Brittany Schiavo, special education, Kennett High, is requesting permission to explore the use of social stories with three students who are identified with emotional disturbance as their primary disability. Student identification will remain anonymous, no instructional time will be lost, and parental permission and student assent will be secured prior to commencing the research project. Recommended Motion: That Brittany Schiavo be granted permission to observe three Kennett High School students as part of her research study at West Chester University.

4 ) Request for Student Trip (Dr. Tomasetti) The Kennett High School Robotics Team is requesting permission to travel to Lehigh University from Thursday, April 5, 2018, through Saturday, April 7, 2018, missing two days of school to participate in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship conditional upon the team qualifying. Recommended Motion: That the Board grant permission for the Kennett High School Robotics Team to travel to Lehigh University from April 5 through April 7, 2018, to participate in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship (should the team qualify) in accordance with Board Policy 121, Field Trips. ) 2018 Summer School (Dr. Tomasetti) In accordance with School Board Policy 124, Summer School, the administration is in the process of preparing a program of summer school instruction. ELEMENTARY STEM Camp During this STEM camp, rising 6 th graders will explore automation and design using a project-based format and rising 7 th graders will explore programming for 3-D printing. The program will run from July 9 to July 12, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and will be held at Kennett Middle School. The cost of the camp is $150. ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE CODING Camp During this introduction to coding camp, rising 5 th through 7 th graders will learn how to write code using a block coding program (i.e. code.org and MIT Scratch). Lessons will be guided at each individual student s pace and will run from July 16 to July 19, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The cost of the camp is $100. Flight and Space Camp During this unit, 5 th through 7 th grade students discover the science behind aeronautics and explore traveling and living in space. Students are then challenged to use their knowledge to design, build, and test an airfoil. The camp will be held July 16 to July 19, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at a cost of $100.

5 MIDDLE Remedial - The middle school remedial summer program offers instruction to students who fail one or two academic subjects during the school year and consists of a mathematics course and a verbal/study skills course. Students are required to pass one of the summer courses in order to be assigned to the next grade for the school year. The Monday through Thursday program will run four hours a day from July 9 to August 9, 2018, and will be held at the high school. The cost for each course is $300. HIGH Make-Up Credit - The high school summer school program will offer make-up courses to students who fail courses required for graduation in the four major content areas (English, science, social studies, and mathematics) and health. The program will run for 20 days, with each course meeting for 3 hours a day, Monday through Thursday, beginning June 25 and concluding July 30, The cost of each course will be $300 for resident students and $450 for non-residents. Original Credit - Original credit will be offered for English, science, mathematics, social studies, and health courses that will be available on-line at a cost of $600 for resident students and $900 for non-residents. Students who take an original credit course will attend class for 6 hours a day beginning June 25 and continuing through July 30, Keystone Remediation Algebra, biology, and literature remediation will be offered to any student who participated in a Keystone Assessment but has yet to attain a score of proficient or advanced. The program will run for 10 days, with each session lasting three to six hours a day beginning July 16, Students will be expected to re-take the Assessment July 30 through August 1. There is no cost for this program. Parents will be responsible for providing transportation for all summer school programs. Financial assistance will be provided to those students demonstrating need. Recommended Motion: That the Board approve the 2018 summer school programs.

6 ) Summer Academies (Dr. Tomasetti) Elementary - The elementary Summer Academy is a 5-week remedial literacy and mathematics program. It is funded by Title I and local funds and runs for three hours a day, Monday through Thursday, July 9 through August 9, Students must meet eligibility requirements, and transportation is provided to and from the program. Middle The middle school Summer Academy is a 5-week remedial literacy and mathematics program for students entering the 6 th grade and meeting eligibility requirements. It runs for three hours a day, Monday through Thursday, July 9 through August 9, 2018, and will be held at Kennett High School. Recommended Motion: That the Board approve the 2018 Summer Academies. ) Custodial Outsourcing (Mr. Tracy) The administration is recommending that the District enter into a contract with the Chester County Intermediate Unit to provide ServiceMaster night-time custodial services. This initiative is targeted at fulfilling current vacancies in the District s custodial ranks and will not cause or lead to the termination or replacement of any active employee. The program will be piloted at Greenwood Elementary School effective on May 1, 2018, and conclude on June 30, The program may be extended to other facilities based on additional vacancies that may arise during the pilot period.
