3 Transcript Review Personal Information: Is it correct?? Check your transcript for correctness to ensure you are on track to graduate next year and are meeting 4 year college admission requirements. Classes you had and grades you earned. Are they correct? If you earned a D or F in any course, please check with your counselor to determine if you need to repeat the class in summer school Summer school information will be available March 20 th and registration begins on April 9th. Summer School powerpoint to be shown in Homeroom on 3/22. If you have ANY questions regarding your transcript or courses for next year, please see your counselor!!!!! What is your GPA? 5 College Admission Requirements a-g Terminology In order to be eligible to apply to a CSU/UC school or many private or outof-state 4 year colleges, students must complete minimum admissions requirements which are called a-g courses. Studies also show that by completing these requirements, the success rate is higher for students who want to transfer from a community college to a four year college. **4-year university bound students must pass all a-g courses with grades C- or higher. **D or F grades in required a-g courses may need to be remediated

8 Senior Year Stay Strong Academically! Focus on completing the a-g requirements. Consider an ROP class it can help with college admissions and prepare you for a major or career. It is important to take rigorous courses but do not overload balance is key! Make sure you finish Health, Visual Performing Art, PE, etc.
9 Senior Year Course Selection Today you will receive course selection documents for your senior year. Counselors will be available to answer questions on Monday, 3/4, Tuesday 3/5 and Wednesday, 3/6 during lunchtime outside of the Counseling Office. Counselors will meet with you on Thursday, 3/7, Friday, 3/8, or Monday, 3/11 in your English classes to collect course documents.
10 Don t know what to take next year??? Check your transcript for remaining graduation requirements! Seniors MUST have at least 5 classes all year! Consult the a-g checklist (hint: you just filled this out.) Attend Discovery Days tutorial sessions to learn more about specific courses (HW expectations; prerequisite skills, support & resources.) Attend AP/Honors Night Tuesday, March 5 th 6-7:30 pm in the Gym. Talk to your counselor during lunch on 3/4, 3/5, 3/6!!!

14 Create your list of schools First, begin with a list of potential schools. On average, students are selecting 8-10 universities. A recommended guideline is to have: 2-3 Reach Schools (10%-20% chance of admission) Within striking distance of GPA and test scores Many factors are used in identifying admission 3-4 Match or Target Schools (70%-80% chance of admission) GPA and Test Scores fall within or slightly above the school s average 1-2 Safety Schools (90%-100% chance of admission) GPA and Test Scores above the school s average

Certificate Programs: A variety of career areas 3. Transfer Program: to Four Year Colleges * IVC Honors Program open to students with a total 3.25 GPA. Cost of each unit: $46.00 (~$1,300/year including health fees) Cost of books/supplies: ~$1,700 Apply Early!! 27 Applying Early Early Decision (ED) is binding Early Action (EA) is non-binding Restrictive Early Action (REA) means you may not apply to an EA, REA, or ED program at any private college/university in the US Does it increase my chance of acceptance? Colleges vary in percentage of early applicants they admit. A higher admission rate may correlate to stronger profiles among candidates choosing ED/EA.

29 WUE: Colleges in the West for Less! What is WUE? If you are a resident of a WICHE (Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education) state, you are eligible to request a reduced WUE tuition rate of 150% of the resident rate at one of the participating STATE schools in the West. WICHE members include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the U.S. Pacific territories and freely associated states Programs available and participating institutions: Currently, 150 public institutions participate in WUE; not all public institutions in every WICHE state participate in the program. 30 Career Exploration College and Career Readiness is important for life after graduation. At Woodbridge High School there are many opportunities for College and Career Readiness: Meeting a-g subject requirements Taking AP and/or Honors Courses Taking Dual Enrollment Classes IVC classes offered on an IUSD high school campus Exploring ROP classes Try an ROP (Regional Occupational Program) class!!!! They offer hands on experience in different career areas. Some classes are offered at Woodbridge High School, but many are offered after school at different locations. Some examples include: Animal Health Care, Administration of Justice, Business Internships, Sports Medicine, Certified Nursing Assistant, and many more. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Winter in the counseling office for a full list.
31 Career Exploration Exploring CTE classes and pathways CTE (Career and Technical Education) at Woodbridge High School includes classes that offer a pathway of several classes that lead to expertise in a subject area. Completing a CTE pathway at Woodbridge High School such as Video Production, Auto, Computer Science, etc. or pathway offered at Irvine Unified School District such as Building Industry or Culinary can enhance a college application or lead to a career. See your counselor if you have more questions regarding CTE. Using Naviance to explore College and Career options After exploring College and Career Readiness options you may choose to continue your education by training in a particular career field. Community Colleges offer low cost certificate programs consisting of hands on career training.
