1 Practicum Application Checklist/Directions for Student/Intern Teachers Due Date for Fall 2019 applications: January 31, 2019 Please read the entire document and fill in all lines/locations completely. Below are specific items that are often overlooked. Thank you. On page one under course work section, list all courses you are currently taking/need (spring & summer 2019), including workshops. Also, list the semester you are planning to complete the course. Coursework may not be taken during the practicum semester! On page two, if you have completed the PRAXIS II/PECT exams, check the exam and list the date taken. If you have an exam to complete, please list the exam, month and year you will take them. Testing recommended for scheduling during the first half of or prior to your practicum semester. Sign the application packet in TWO locations, pages 2 and 5. Attach up-to-date resume. This is included with the placement request letter that Wilson sends. Mandatory: To write your resume, you must use the Practicum resume template and guidelines that are posted on the Ed. Program Forms page at Students, and then TCP/EDU. Attach copies of clearances (Act 34, 114 & 151) AND TB Exam (see Ed. Program Forms page). If you expect to use the clearances that are in your file, please list that on your application. Clearances must be CURRENT for student teaching which starts in August 2019 check the dates on your clearances and TB. Make a copy of your application for your records! If convenient, meet with your Advisor, prior to deadline, to review application and get her signature. Otherwise, DELIVER/MAIL APPLICATION (all pages) by deadline (with supporting documents) to: Education Office, Wilson College, 1015 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA to request a professional semester placement. If you didn t get your Advisor s signature, application will be placed in her mailbox. You will be notified via when your placement has been confirmed. Most placements are confirmed within one month of application deadline; however, some may take up to three or more months. The placement is the sole discretion of Wilson College as per school, cooperating teacher and grade level. Practicum is for 70 days. Wilson College works with many school districts, and this period covers the many variations in school schedules. The student teacher is a guest in the classroom and will be supervised by the cooperating teacher and the Wilson College supervisor. Your attendance at pre-semester orientations and RED Days is mandatory. Tuition includes two course numbers Special Needs Seminar (three credits) and the Practicum (twelve credits). Please refer to registration procedures, and look for important registration information in future announcements from the Registrar s Office. Registration/payment deadlines will be in effect through the Registrar and Business Office. Check My Wilson Portal. All prescribed coursework must be taken prior to your first day of the practicum. If completing the TCP Field Experience Portfolio, it must be submitted by July 1, 2019 and approved no later than August 1, PRAXIS/PECT testing recommended for scheduling near the middle of or prior to your practicum semester. Your academic advisor s approval is required for you to apply for your practicum experience. Please secure your advisor s signature before submitting this form. 4 REGISTRATION PROCEDURES Following your application to your Advisor by the due date, January 31, 2019, you will register for both the appropriate Special Needs Seminar (EDU/SPE430) and one Practicum (EDU/SPE431-35; EDU/SPE 436, EDU437; EDU/SPE or EDU446). You will do this during the registration period posted on-line in the Wilson College Course Schedule for the fall 2019 semester and prior to the beginning of the professional semester approved for you. You CANNOT register until Education Office submits a list to Registrar. You will be notified when you may call to register. For ALL Undergraduate and TCP Students: EDU/SPE430 Special Needs Seminar For Undergraduate and TCP Students: EDU/SPE431 Secondary English Practicum EDU432 Foreign Language Practicum EDU/SPE433 Secondary Science Practicum EDU/SPE434 Secondary Social Studies Practicum EDU/SPE435 Secondary Mathematics Practicum EDU/SPE 436 PreK-4 Practicum EDU437 Health & PE Practicum EDU/SPE441 Middle Level English Practicum EDU/SPE443 Middle Level Science Practicum EDU/SPE444 Middle Level Social Studies Practicum EDU/SPE445 Middle Level Mathematics Practicum EDU446: Business Practicum ELIGIBILITY 1. All students must contact their advisor to review eligibility and to finalize the application. 2. All PRAXIS/PECT testing prescribed and required for your specific certification area should be taken near the middle of or prior to your practicum. Passing scores will make you eligible for the certificate. 3. Student teachers must complete all required coursework and workshops prior to student teaching and be officially accepted to the appropriate Education program. 4. All Student teachers are required to attend orientations (noted below). THESE ORIENTATIONS ARE REQUIRED! #1 Sunday, April 14, 2019, 1:00-3:00 PM, Wilson College, Warfield Allen Auditorium Required for ALL student teachers #2 Sunday, August 11, 2019, 12:00-3:00 PM, Wilson College, Science Center Auditorium Required for student teachers, cooperating teachers and college supervisors APPROPRIATE SETTING FOR THE PRACTICUM 1. Placement must be in the specific area for which you will be certified. Placement must be in a grade level(s) included for your specific level of certification. 2. Placement must offer full-time instructional planning for 4 to 6 weeks of the required 70 days. 3. Placement may be in a public or accredited private school. The private or parochial school must provide documentation of a curriculum and assessment program based on the Pennsylvania state standards. If not, then seven of the fourteen week practicum must be a public school assignment. 3

5 PRACTICUM AGREEMENT By signature, you are acknowledging awareness and compliance. 1. Student teachers should have all designated PRAXIS/PECT testing scheduled during the first half of or prior to your practicum semester and official score reports sent to/on file in the Education Department Office and PDE. 2. Student teachers must have all pre-requisite coursework completed and official transcripts on file in the Education Department Office prior to starting their placement. This includes paying any off-campus transfer fees. 3. Student teachers must have current clearances (Act 34, Act 151, and Act 114-FBI) and the TB test prior to starting the placement. 4. All off-campus course transcripts and current clearances must be in the student s file in the Education Department. 5. All formal observation lesson plans are to be computer-generated and kept in the portfolio for review by the College Supervisor and/or Cooperating Teacher. 6. Student teachers must comply with the rules and procedures of the placement school. 7. Student teachers must provide the College Supervisor with a class schedule during the first week of student teaching. 8. Student teachers must notify the College Supervisor and Cooperating Teacher by phone, prior to the absence. Any absence, beyond one day, must be made up by adding the day(s) to the end of the scheduled assignment. 9. Student teachers must check their Wilson account daily. Student teachers are responsible for all information posted on the web or transmitted via Student teachers must be prepared for observations by the College Supervisor who may observe with or without an appointment as he/she deems appropriate throughout the student teaching experience. 11. The Weekly Reflection must be in the hands of the College Supervisor (CS) on Friday/ Saturday of each week. Please confer with your CS for the method to accomplish this. 12. Student teaching is a full-time responsibility. The hours will begin before school and continue long after the children leave the building. Student teaching may involve evening commitments at the school. 13. Attendance at the two student teaching orientations is mandatory for student teachers. Attendance at the two RED Days is mandatory for student teachers (September 20 and November 15, 2019). Failure to attend all required meetings may result in the lowering of the final grade in student teaching. 14. I understand that failure to meet the Education Department and Wilson College academic requirements may result in my removal from the student teaching experience. 15. I understand that failure to fulfill any student teaching obligations, lack of professionalism, or inappropriate conduct may result in my removal from the student teaching experience. 4

6 16. Student teachers must dress and conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. 17. If practicum is performed in Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15 school district (Cumberland, Dauphin, Northern York or Perry County), then practicum student must have completed the High Impact Strategies/Learning-Focused Schools training. Dates for training will be in Newsletter. Student s responsibility to pay for and attend the training. Give copy of completion certificate to school district. 18. I understand that I am responsible for registering for my student teaching practicum and EDU/SPE430 as required by the Wilson College Registrar. If I do not, I will be removed from my placement. I have read this document and agree to abide by the terms and conditions.
